The game works fine as it is - with players generally permitted to take quick free kicks anywhere on the pitch other than in goal scoring positions.

Goalkeepers have been allowed to set up a wall for as long as I’ve been watching the game and this improves the game as a spectacle. Why change it?

I don’t get this. Sheff Utd and West Brom are on 11 and 14 points respectively. So their games really have no more bearing on the relegation scrap than any other game featuring the likes of Newcastle, Fulham and Brighton.
