For all that Japan played absolutely top of their game (all credit for that), it was a very lacklustre Irish performance. It's difficult to know why that effort was so much down on the one v Scotland but the coaches need to work that out and correct it or they wont get a long way in the competition....

Agree with Cleveleys. Poch has done an excellent job at Spurs over the past few years, especially against a backdrop of the new stadium move/delays. Getting 8th at Southampton was a fine achievement too. However, it really looks like the peak has now been passed with the team he's built up at Spurs....

More like an old cricket-field end song.
Bits I remember..... (As mentioned, Jim Reeves popular tune)......
I hear the sound.... of distant bums
Over there, over there (make gestures towards away fans)
And do they smell?

Yes- Ings has netted (against the run of play). I think he got one last time we played at Fratton Park- the game where we got a good win and Charlie banged a few in as well. I noticed that guy with the long hair/tall hat & bell that they always used to get on camera on the home kop is still there (a...

Good to see Saqib Mahmood & Parky in the party though, good experience for them even if they dont get a test match.

91-6 now with Gleeson already having a fivefer.
They'll need to keep playing well to finish with a result in this game I feel, it looks like there'll be a fair bit of time lost due to weather.

When the season started we were 2nd or 3rd favourites for the drop and stayed there despite the 3-0 opening result. We started "movin on up" lately with our last 2 results & several other clubs doing poorly. I had a pre-season bet on Palace to go down because I thought they'd lose Zaha as well as Wa...

Failing to hold a lead v 10 men will be a confidence blow for Villa (albeit away to a "big" team); more so than if they'd just lost narrowly to a full Arsenal XI (like we did a few weeks ago). The pressure will be really on them next week, hope we can play positively like yesterday & take advantage ...

Keane had a very good career with Forest (despite the odd fracas with Clough), doubt they were ever seriously looking to loan him out. I watched the Chelsea v Liverpool game on TV. I'm not in the least a Chelsea fan but thought they had a strong 2nd half and deserved a point. Italy v Namibia done and dusted. Ireland v Scotland at 08.45. Key game for both with Ireland having been faltering a bit (from their high) in recent games and Scotland having a lot of flair players. That first half from Newcastle was really poor, especially as the home side; made BHA look like a top 6 side. As per previous post: I think people like this tend to drive whether or not they're banned, uninsured/driving an unsafe car etc. He was doing 72 mph in a 30 limit zone; we've probably all edged over the limit on occasion but that takes some serious "couldnt give a ****" attitude.

Yes Tribesman- that NZ v SA clash is a very big match come early.
Bookies have NZ clear favourites to win the competition, then SA marginally shorter than England as 2nd/3rd favourites so a bit of a fixture oddity for that game to be on the 2nd day.

I'm glad we had a referendum but I think he's a creep and doesn't really have any redeeming features. Ive no interest in hearing anything further from him about any subject (same for Blair) & hope all book buyers feel the same.

5 points from 15 available, continued throughout the season, would see us on 38 points. A slightly more appropriate analysis might be... 3 points from 2 home games = 1.5 points per home game 2 points from 3 away games = .67 points per away game 19X1.5 + 19X.67 = 41 points. Probably giving a 14th/15...

Current odds at Bet365 are: England win 1/3, Oz win 11/4, draw 25/1.
Obviously this may change if we perform the almost standard collapse tomorrow but England are clearly current favourites - despite Smith's obdurance/excellence.

Some truth in what you say Foulthrow but, thankfully, an innings closes when 10 men are dismissed even if Mr Smith is still batting away in excellence at his end. If we can get a bit over 230 this 2nd inning (big IF maybe), I'd fancy our chances- even if SPD Smith gets 100+ again.

As somebody (I think Butler) said in an interview after play yesterday- it's a good cricket wicket in that batsmen can graft some decent runs if they apply themselves sensibly but also bowlers can take a few wickets if they bowl well. Good to see that. I've got tickets for tomorrow and Sunday so hop...
