3/2/1962, Burnley 7 Birmingham 1.
And a rare goal from captain Jimmy Adamson.......six different scorers, how often has that happened in our history?
What a team that was, literally at it's very peak.

Sums what up? Were you expecting a win against the best team in club football? Are you expecting Turf Moor to be on a par with the Etihad? CT - I have to say the every opportunity for a dig approach directed at the club is a little tiring. We are all disappointed with how this season has gone, but ...

UK emigration figures for Y/E June 2023 are in excess of half a million !! Enough said UTC
But how many of those were serious Burnley fans ?......Come on FCBurnley, tell us how difficult it was to decide never to visit the Turf again ?......Again no disrespect.

I would not trade all the defeats for our wins in 59/0 and 1973 Charity Shield. Obviously the 59/60 win was massive and the 73 win was pretty special. Also the 5-2 win in City’s relegation season was most enjoyable. I was at all 3 of those games and no Defeat however large can take them away. But n...

31/1/1903, Manchester City 6 Burnley 0.
A few thumpings over the years, let's hope for better tonight...
Not an excuse, but.....We had to play this game without our top scorer that season, the famous Cornelious Hogan.
He came back the following week for the away game at Blackpool.

Superb action shot of Andy Lochhead, with the Longside in the background.
Nobody messed with Andy!.......plenty of opposition players tried, but they all came second.

Dad often talked about this game.......mainly for two reasons, one he was part of this massive crowd, crushed on the Bee Hole End and two the emergence of one of his favourite ever Burnley players, Les Shannon. He went to Ewood Park a couple of weeks later for the 6th Round and another 53,000 crowd....

Spot on. Definitely Anfield & definitely Strong, Hughes & Thomas. Why on earth Blant & the Liverpool players have had their shirts 'painted' is anybody's guess! Was that the 2-0 game where Ralph Coats scored that cracking goal after picking the ball up in his own half and then running right through with Ron Yates and Tommy Smith bearing down on him. He got to the corner of the penalty then chipped a magnificent ball over Tommy Lawrence's head into the corn...

A very rare headed goal from Gordon Harris......then it all kicks off !!
Remarkably we played Arsenal three times within a week, the league game at the link was on a Saturday sandwiched between a league cup game the previous midweek and the replay at Arsenal the following Tuesday.

I remember that guard of honour. If you look at the smiles on the player's (and everyone's actually) faces it shows how we all felt about his England call up at the time. Perhaps we should be trying to put some names to those faces. I'm thinking it must be the home game against West Brom in Dec.'70...

One of our very, very best was Ralphy.
So many memories, but when he sprinted half the length of the pitch to score against Liverpool in '66 is forever etched in the memory.

Any substitution after that had to balance weakening the team whilst trying to get a stronger foothold in the game to try and score an equaliser.
This balance is something Kompany has to learn......but is not learning quickly enough.....at our expense.

We seem to go to pot whenever we concede a goal. No idea whether it’s a lack of confidence, belief, experience etc. Either way it’s a massive issue. Tonight was very much a Jekyll and Hyde performance - we barely put a decent move together after going behind.
Nailed it.

The secret of any succesful team or line-up, no matter what the era, is balance. Whether that's '08/'09, '72/'73 or back to the 1960's, the same principle applies. When we were Champions in 1960 the balance of the side was simply perfect......Angus and Adamson offered finesse and culture on the righ...
