A bit of info on the Turf Moor Heroes project, which players have been selected, who has been involved with it, and who has sponsored them all.

The other thread was to enable me to get the pics on today as they went up - this links to an article I've just written.

I would like to mention on here, as well as the article, three people without whom we would never have got this far.

David Baldwin - supportive of the project and involved in the early stages to help get things moving
Adam Riding - selecting and preparing the images
Aaron Diggle (Creation Signs) - brilliant job manufacturing the boards and fitting them today - really good choice of company to work with on the project

Will update as soon as we have some news on phase 2.

It's been a long wait for them Dave, frustrating at times but we wanted them to be the best we could get them. It was interesting watching people walking down the road today and how many stopped to have a look. Hope a few do this Saturday when they get here for the game.

Be great to see older fans, of different ages, pointing out the boards to younger(er) fans. When you can marry a real interest in the history of the club with an enjoyment of today's football, you have a fan for life. Its also great to see the likes of Harry Potts and Jimmy Adamson in their prime , as players. I remember them , as I suspect many do, as middle aged managers in suit and tie. Very impressive and quite moving really.

Bit strange seeing the likes of Gary Parkinson and Graham Alexander on there, but no Steve Davis.

Looks great. Trippier bit of a strange one though. Could think of plenty ahead of him for different reasons. A good player all the same of course.

Also a bit of a moot point. Why is Jimmy Mc not on the jimmy mc stand?

The players selected were those who won the most votes - as simple as that. If I were questioning it then it would be the omission of Brian O'Neil, but it was simply those with the most votes in each era.

Fair enough. And suppose he didnt leave under the same scenario as say Shackell or even Ings but they having contributed to beating rovers, captaining and top scoring us to ptomotion youd expect them ahead of him. And i prefer Trippier to both.

Not really when remembering the voting process and what with him still being fresh in peoples memories at the time.

'If' there is a strange one then it's Trevor Steven, he can only really have been voted for because of what he did after being at Burnley.

And that will be the reason why Steve Davis isn't on the list.

Out of interest, are any of the other suggestions being considered now that this one is well underway?

I think Trevor Steven benefits from having played in an era when weren't as good and so there was less competition in that period. Don't think it is for what he did elsewhere. He might have only had two seasons in the first team but was a big crowd favourite at the time.

Have to say he was one of a couple at the time who surprised me when he got in but I'm not sure who might have fairly beaten him.

He was a crowd favourite (so was Chris Pearce later on for mainly different reasons) and he was a very good footballer, even at the time.

But permanent 'Claret Heroes' pictures on the outside of t'Turf?

Like I say it was all about the (fair) voting process at the time.

I would have gone for Micky Phelan from that era.

Should be a huge version of this at the players entrance at the cfs. Where they currently have claret and blue facepainted fans or something similar.

Reminding the players, the opposition, away fans, refs and media what a great club we are and what we have achieved.

Might have to photoshop the premier league trophy on for the benefit of sky and sky era fans to save any confusion mind.

Well done to all involved, a reminder to fans of all clubs and all eras or our rich history. I think our past heroes would be proud of where we now stand in today's money-dominated game! Willie Irvine is my own original hero...
Love the pic above of the champs == Alex Elder looks about 8 years old :)

Hopefully they clean up the wall nearest the Cricket Field Stand as part of the next stage of development. It's obviously due to age, but it's a mess behind some of the images of the first phase of players.

Overall it looks really good, and is a MASSIVE improvement on the previous wall of players which was there. I'm surprised Steve Davis didn't make the list to be honest. I've seen similar comments on my Facebook feed, and it's obviously because him leaving when he did has clouded judgement somewhat. A great player for Burnley(was it 3 promotions over 10 years?), and hopefully in time he will be remembered as such....when people get over it and move on.

Well done to all those involved though. 8-)

No Tom :(

The first full England international of my life time as well as others, and possibly the best goalkeeper for decades.

A loyal man and captain.

Would have liked to see him as the last name on the list.

Just to clear this up with suggestions of Davis & Heaton.

I don't think any one of us would have chosen the exact list that came out on top if we were naming 31, but this is why it was vital to allow supporters to vote and they did in their thousands.

We will all be disappointed that particular players didn't make it - as I've said, my big disappointment is Brian O'Neil but in the end he wasn't close. Those selected are the ones chosen by the fans and the list was published back in August 2015 when we had the same debate. I suppose it is good that we have this debate, it shows clearly we all have different opinions on who and who shouldn't be there.

I can tell you that the player who received considerably more votes than any other player was a former Northern Ireland international by the name of Jimmy McIlroy.

I would have thought that Meredith would have been there, for the sheer reason of scoring the league-winning goal.
