the fans today.
I'm aware what a fantastic time it is to be a claret but I need a moan so here goes. singing we are the Longside in the cricketfield end....why? and at the end when vokes was clapping the fans they chanted keano to him. a complete embarrassment, and that's before I even get on about us singing more anti Blackburn songs than actual Burnley songs. sort it out lads

Re: the fans today.
It was a bit odd today. No Golden gamble, replaced instead with a scratchcard. No full programme, we had a makeshift effort for £2. No kids to hold up the big shirt or play at half time. No red wooden EPL gate on the pitch. A few newbies, which is a good thing. It all contributed to a slightly different experience but a fab win, a world class goal and a good day out for £10/ £5.

People were chanting "Deano" not Keano. Due to Marney's injury.

In the last 30 ish years we've always sung anti Blackburn songs at every match we've played. There weren't any more songs about them than Burnley today.and that's before I even get on about us singing more anti Blackburn songs than actual Burnley songs. sort it out lads

Strange thread this.
We are making more noise in the home stands than I can remember and today was no real exception.
I remember 3rd and 4th round ties about 10 years ago where you could hear a pin drop.
I think we were playing Grimsby and I swear you could hear the players.

Apart from the 15,000 crowd
Re: the fans today.
It was a notch down from the recent league matches but think back a few years and it was miles above the noise we regularly made... The worst was the Blackburn home game with Laws in charge. I've never felt so embarrassed by a lack of noise... That was like a pre season friendly but it was supposed to be our biggest game of the season.
Re: the fans today.
Well I liked it and so did my ten year old boy who now can't stop talking about a chap called Steven Defour.

Not entirely sure why we got a rendition of "23 23 undefeated" today either
Re: the fans today.
Cricketfield end always had a fantastic atmosphere.....better than the longside imo.the sixties saw us in the top flight alongside man utd city leeds liverpool and stoke who brought thousands to create atmosphere and what went with it.....european nights absolute electric and thrashing spurs 5..1 in the league will live long in the memory bank! And now the young fans are back there and loving it....the long side is no more.

I sat in my normal season ticket seat and around us were loads of new faces, when I realised some had no idea on the words to a couple of chants, I made sure next time I was clear and loud, soon quite a few were heard to join in with the Defour chant and in fairness to the youngsters around us I didn't make it clear what Burnley was full of other than Clarets UTC
Re: the fans today.
Sean Dyche isn't king
Not many fans run down Brunshaw Road
Hendrick isn't better than Cristiano ( sh1t sing anyway IMO )
It's a song, if sung correct at good pace it's OK.
It's not the songs that need sorting, it's the people that sing them at 100 mph!

Re: the fans today.
For the last two cup matches i have sat in my normal seat in the JHU. What surprised me a little was how many of the regular season ticket holders did not either attend or chose to sit in a different part of the ground...lots and lots of new faces in the areas around me.

Re: the fans today.
Does it matter whether you sit in your usual place, or what you sing, i thought yesterdays match was entertaining, and Bristol City played some decent football at times, although i always thought we had more to give if needed,Two good goals, Defours out of this world. A lot of needless remarks here, as i still remember when the highlight of the match was if the ball rolled of the Bob Lord roof or stayed in the gutter. These days have to be savoured!!

Re: the fans today.
One thing that annoys me and it probably shouldn't is how us, and all fans seem to think it's clever to sing 'you're f***ing ****.'
If you're 4 up, fair enough. If they are playing poorly and you're winning comfortably, fair enough.
When it's nil nil though?
Not just us that song it but why?

Re: the fans today.
Strange thread really.
We Are The Longside always sounds brilliant in the CFS - even on days like yesterday when it was more subdued.
It makes sense because it's talking about the spirit of the Longside. We are the Longside. Wherever we are.

We sing 'we are the Longside, Burnley', regardless of where we sit/ stand, because we are the Longside, Burnley. If you don't understand that, I'm not going to bother trying to explain it.

Re: the fans today.
For the umpteenth time on here. Those of us old enough to remember know it was always thus;
"Bertie Mee said to Bill Shankley. Have you heard of the North Bank Highbury?
Shanks said No,I don't think so. But I've heard of the Longside, Burnley"
NOTE: I'VE HEARD OF THE LONGSIDE, BURNLEY.
When did it become corrupted and changed?

Slightly easier to sing: 'We are the Longside Burnley' than 'We are former longsiders in the Cricket Field Stand sponsored by David Fishwick Burnley' !

Re: the fans today.
As we are on the topic of chants etc. The only one I wish we would get right is "IN OUR LANCASHIRE HOME" not HOMES, as we are singing about Turf Moor being our Home in Lancashire not your own houses in Lancashire. Only gets to me coz I don't live in Lancashire anymore.
But as long as we are loud I'll sing it my way without the S and everyone else can continue

Re: the fans today.
Doesn't matter what we sing, we are loud and proud home and away and the players appreciate the support.
Seems to me there are people posting on here who only go to the £10 cup games.
Those of us who travel everywhere watching the Clarets know who we all are, and we also know how to spot 'The Plastics' who think they are entitled to an opinion.
I wonder how many of them will be there if we get Millwall away. (nuff said) UTC

I thought at the time it was in recognition of Bristol City being the first 'victims' on that 23 game run although that could be a bit of overthinking on my part ..wilks_bfc wrote:Not entirely sure why we got a rendition of "23 23 undefeated" today either

Is it possible to miss those timeless old renditions of "Tip toe through the Longside with your boots on, get your head kicked in, come tip toe through the Longside with me", as a youngster when I first heard it I must admit it did scare me a bit that we were singing the words tip toe

My ST is in the JHU but I've attended both the recent cup games in the CFS.
Much better atmosphere and I enjoyed standing up for the game.
However, I wouldn't want to be in there full time. My knees and vocal chords couldn't take it.
