Same guy now saying bid made, but not accepted. Dependent on replacement.

Seems to be all over Twitter and some online papers, mirror and mail. Could all be rumours from starting from one Twitter source but he is a good player and I hope it's true.

Robertson instead of Brady? Not an expert on these things but apart from being left sided they're don't seem like for like. Robertson is an out and out defender and while Brady can do that job surely we want his attacking output further up the pitch as well. Going in for versatile midfielder then switching targets to an outright defender seems daft.

Edit:

Just spotted this, havn't paid much attention to Robertson but only has one assist this season, while Brady though in the Championship has 4 goal and 4 assists. I hope Dyche has a lot of faith in Roberson's attacking potential as I know who I'd rather have in our team.

Hull lining up the same left back who turned down Norwich as a replacement apparently...could happen...

This only really makes sense to me if the Brady deal is on the rocks. Robertson's more of a wing back than an 'outright defender' so I'd presume that with the defensive work our wide midfielders do Dyche is looking at him predominantly as LM for us rather than LB (same with Brady who to my knowledge plays LM for Ireland but LB at Norwich).

Unless we utilise the "Trippier system" where the wide midfielder is defensive minded but can get forward, and the fullback is attacking and overlapping

It always makes sense to buy players that are better than the ones you've got.

I don't believe the Brady deal is on the rocks - I think it is only being delayed until Norwich get their replacement.

Daily Express also reporting that we will have the worst rainstorm ever seen, statins are the best thing since sliced bread and pensions are booming.

Tomorrow's early edition will have stories that next week we will have 25 foot of snow, statins cause cancer and pensions are going to end.

Robertson and Brady as a left hand side would probably be the quickest, most attacking left hand side we have had in recent years.

I just wonder if Dyche maybe sees Brady playing on the right wing, we do know he likes to invert his wingers and have them cutting on to their stronger foot.

An offer for Robertson totally makes sense as left back is a position we're short in. Yes we have Stephen Ward, and I must say he's been terrific this season, but if he were to get injured or suspended for 3 games then we'd be in a bit of trouble. We'd have two options currently and neither are favourable:

1 - Flanagan at left back. Anyone who's had the misfortune to watch Flanagan at left back will understand why this wouldn't be the answer. He might be ok for cover at right back, but I really wouldn't want to see him at left back for any length of time. He's been taken apart by Accy Stanley and Bristol City this season. I wouldn't want to see him at LB versus anyone in the PL!

2 - Mee at left back and Tarky in the centre. Again this isn't a great option as it means breaking up the Keane and Mee partnership that has been the bedrock of our success for the past 12 months.

In my opinion if Robertson is available for around £10 million then he's a good price in the current market and he'd be a great asset to the club for the foreseeable future.

Of course, it's just a bit crazy to think we might be about to spend £23million on 2 players! As mentioned Brady could well turn up on the right of the midfield, cutting inside. Robertson would definitley add more pace down the left but it would be harsh on Ward who's been great since he came into the side just over a year ago. Both very good players though, would be amazing to get both.

We should be continually looking to improve the first 11, Robertson would do just that, you can't always choose which order you buy players in it depends when they become available. An alternative to Gray should also be on the agenda too.

That's very true CT. However I'd really like to see Brady in the final third showing off his attacking qualities rather than being in our back four.

Me too - but it is an option and a good one. He plays left back for Ireland when Ward doesn't play.

We're potentially being very canny here. By selling Livermore and Snodgrass AND bringing in a manager on a short term deal it's clearly going to be relatively easy to turn Robertson's head a bit. Hull look like being relegated and managerless in May! If Robertson has an "out" to a club that appears more stable and one that could continue to offer PL football then his agent is always going to push for it!

If we want a Left Back then Robertson but we want a Left midfielder so Brady. If it is one or the other Robertson will be second choice. But considering how close the Brady deal appears or appeared to be we more than likely want both.

Robertson's a left back, not sure we would want to play Brady there unless it was a necessity.

Maybe we could tempt Abel Hernandez too then and really screw them.

Next to Tarky.

It will prove we have hit the big time with a midfield of

Darikwa Gosling Tarky Ward , a mouth watering prospect

Some concern on here about can we really afford to bring in TWO players of this quality at this time..?

Well yes I get that but if SD and his 'transfer team' are as proficient and clued-in as I think they are, then we should eventually [provided they arrive!] sell them for more than we bought them for..[think Gray, Keane and Defour] so it's very good business to buy them now, and if they are as good as everyone says they are, then it's virtually risk-free business..eg - bought in for say £23m and sold in 3 year's time for £33m total.

- we have to pay their wages of course.

MACCA you correctly have moved Darikwa to the left and Ward to the right.

I do wonder what JBG makes of the Brady speculation... by my reckoning he is in direct competition.

This is true Frank.

I'm only pulling ones leg.
I think there's only Heaton in the squad who I've not seen moved to several positions to fit in other players.

I think the potential Keane sale will have a lot to do with these current Brady and Robertson ones. I think we all know Keane will leave in the summer for a sum somewhere in the region of £20 million. We'll need to do a bit of work in the CB position over the summer afterwards. Mee and Tarky are fine but is Long, even as 4th choice, either good enough or reliable enough? He seems to get his fair share of injuries whilst not playing very often. It's good business sense from us to invest in the quality of Brady and Robertson when we're in our current position as well. Strike when you're at your strongest, and this is the strongest we've been for a number of years!

According to some on here, someone at the club is happy to keep a player who's content to be on the books whilst not playing much for us.
Or we should be happy with it, can't remember which it is.

Perhaps a genuinely quick left wing back will allow us to play 3-5-2 , with Tarkowski in the 3 at the back, and Lowton and either Robertson\Brady providing the width, and Defour, Hendrick and Barton all playing behind the 2 up front. Works to great effect for Tottenham and Chelsea and is more flexible than a rigid 4-4-2.

I think Long was dropped after about 4 games of the 2013-14 Championship season (after a defeat at Brighton ??) and hasn't started a league game for us since. If he wasn't deemed good enough for the Championship then there's absolutely no way he should be considered for the Premier League.
Bit disappointing to see a player who appears to quite happy to pick up his wages with very little prospect of ever playing a league game. Really does need to follow Danny Lafferty's example and locate the (permanent) exit door.

I can only think Dyche rates him, which is enough for me to be honest, but it does seem odd that he's been with us for so many years without ever really looking likely to make the first team. He signed for us in November 2009 and has currently made 28 appearances for the club in 7 years. It's an odd one for sure as at least a couple of the loans he's had seemed to be very successful. I know a couple of Rochdale fans who were waxing lyrical about him after his spell with them! He's 26 now so you'd think he'd want to be playing week in week out.

CLARETS CLOSE TO DEALS

Sean Dyche remains confident Burnley will strengthen their squad before Tuesday night's deadline.

“We think we will, but it’s not that easy,” he says. “We are in the market and we are looking at players we think can benefit the club, not just me and the team immediately, but the club.

"We want to continue to build a stronger unit as a club both on and off the pitch, which means the alignment is important.

“There are couple of pending situations that have been there for a bit now but still haven’t quite got done. Not from us. Things are more or less there but they have to be signed off and they have to be agreed in totality.”

So from those quotes, our whole transfer window is reliant on Hull and Norwich getting suitable replacements in time.

Reading between the lines, both deals are done if they get the replacements in

Squeaky bum time

A quick Google translation says

We will have a couple of quality additions which will boost the whole club, should Hull and Norwich pull their fingers out of their bottom.

His dressing room banter must be pretty good.
