Everything we need, a missing jigsaw piece. Breaks up play and gives it 'simple'. No frills, no messing, a poor man's Carrick.

Re: FAO Villa Fans
He was fantastic. Aside from one awful pass accross his own goal. Ben Mee had a moment too.
Re: FAO Villa Fans
Westwood was very good, the negativity he's taken from the villa fans looks far fetched based on today, calm on the ball but unlike Jones Westwood appears to be able to dribble, pass forward and head. Similar player but a huge upgrade

Lowton isn't bad either
I think we all know better than to judge a player based on the opinions of other fans. There are too many variables to consider and if Dyche wants the player in, it's for a reason.

Re: FAO Villa Fans
And in the defence of Keane, the slight deflection off Mee from Moses pass made it the perfect ball for Pedro.
And I had a quick check of a Villa forum after the way Westwood played, some comments on there made the Lincoln forum look sane.

If you watch again it was Westwood who was caught in no man land ball watching which allowed Pedro through. Keane had 2 players to mark and was left exposed by Westwood. No Ney Never wrote:Unlike Keane who failed to pick up Pedro for their goal.
Just saying.
Re: FAO Villa Fans
How have Villa got on since he left? Played 3 lost 3... maybe he wasn't the problem after all!
Superb yesterday. He quietly got on with his job and made some good interceptions. His passing wasn't flashy, but very productive in relation to us keeping the ball (Jones-esque you could say). I think he's a very good addition to the squad.

Do many Villa fans read this forum?
Re: FAO Villa Fans
Probably not, but I am always mistaken for one - normally by West Ham fans - when they squint at the badge on my bobble hat which I tend to wear when walking the dogs.

Just saying.
And Brady completely misses a tackle on Moses, as well as the deflection off Mee and Keane possibly not marking closely enough. It was also a great flowing move by Chelsea. Can't really pin it all the blame on one Claret player.

Re: FAO Villa Fans
He looked neat and tidy on his home debut. One pass went astray when it was intercepted, but he got back and 'took one for the Team' and atoned for his gaff. I'm glad he's here. He can play in the FA Cup game next week too. Very handy since our recent midfield mini-crisis.

No. They are all on the Birmingham and Newcastle websites trolling.TheOriginalLongsider wrote:Do many Villa fans read this forum?
I have never worked out how it is that the average Baggie seems to be thoroughly decent when Villa is only a few miles away. They must have some sort of Birmingham sorting hat which brands them at birth.
Barry (pronounced barr-eye-ee) Potter puts on the sorting hat:- "Not Villa, Not Villa you say?.................."

All seems really mixed around Brum. Each of the different towns/districts of the city and suburbs seem to have a focus on 1 of the 3 clubs with no pattern discernible.timshorts wrote:... And anyone from the Black Country would be aghast at being lumped in with Brummies.

Re: FAO Villa Fans
We didn't pay top whack for him did we?
Wasn't it £5million?
Hardly top whack and we needed a water carrier....
Laws signed Marney, another player who could be considered a water carrier in many ways, so I'm not sure what your point is.

Re: FAO Villa Fans
Some people have short memories - Hendrick was being written off on this forum almost from the start and yet apart from the Red mist at Watford most people now rave about him. Need to give Westwood a few weeks to fit into the"framework".

Re: FAO Villa Fans
You think £5m is a bargain for a slightly better version of Jones? Especially when you consider he wasnt wanted/needed by Villa, or any other team for that matter.
Marney was/is a lot more dynamic and actually carries the ball forward, he also gets stuck into challenges. Those are 2 things water carrier type players don't/can't do.

Yes £5 million is a bargain for a player who'd made 120 PL appearances in 4 years for Villa and started 20 this season for them.Right_winger wrote:You think £5m is a bargain for a slightly better version of Jones? Look at Villa since he left, you do know they've been worse since selling him don't you?
Or don't you take an interest in that sort of thing?
What's your issue with water carriers?

£5m should never be considered a bargain in the context of our club, but him judging Westwood after two appearances is just idiotic

I understand yesterday's performance as a whole was poor but let's not just make things up.
He played very well against a very good side last week.

I wouldn't say villas decline in form is related to westwood not being there could be any number of factors. Lets not be kidding ourselves westwoods no messi. Still far too embryonic to really judge his merits granted we will know more at the end of the season.Sidney1st wrote:Yes £5 million is a bargain for a player who'd made 120 PL appearances in 4 years for Villa and started 20 this season for them.

Nothing wrong with having one of those types of players.joey13 wrote:I'll go with supporters who have watched him week in week out , sideways and backwards is what he is .
Jones was effective for us being that sort of player, we've got a younger version of him now.
Some clubs need that sort of player and so long as his backwards or sideways passes are to the right player, I'm happy with that.
Re: FAO Villa Fans
Whilst not overly impressive after 2 games far too early to tell. New system and new CM partner to get used to. Hendrick didn't look to great to start with but before the sending off was looking really good.

I want Westwood to be a lesser version of Dunga or Makalele, but better then Jones, that's all.
Someone whinging about us signing a water carrier doesn't really understand what they bring to a team.

Yeah ok. They are all wrong eh. You'd think after 4 years at a club he would have been appreciated... yet he was vilified. You don't perhaps think there is a reason?
Do you think we have a good deal at £5m for a "limited" player.

Did you rate Jones?
I haven't seen enough of Westwood to know if what we've paid is good or bad yet, neither have you in that respect, or aren't I allowed to point that out?
You want to write him off now though for some bizarre reason.
