Ian Wright on 5Live

Post by Svenster » Sun Feb 12, 2017 5:03 pm

"Chelsea played fantastically"

Really? How did he come to that conclusion? We stopped them playing all over the pitch!

To get a point at Turf Moor takes some doing.

I do get that impression. He almost avoids any mention of us. It's like he had a horrible experience at Burnley and never wants to be reminded of it ever again.

Rather strange Wright's lack of feeling towards Burnley.... he certainly seemed happy enough while he was with us.

If he hated it here, at least he put in a professional performance. Nowadays players sulk, post on twitter about how hard done by they are or sit crying in the car.
What a shame as a pundit he follows the party line of "any club outside top 6 are crap"

He's right, Chelsea were fantastic but we were imperious. Since they got battered at Arsenal they went to a back 3 and haven't budged from it, today in the second half they went to a flat back four to try and combat our press.

SO just to make it clear, the Champions elect came to little old Burnley and had to change THEIR tactics because we were imperious !!

As far as I remember he carried on training with the team after his stint ended here to keep fit. Great pals with Mitchell Thomas. So he couldn't have hated it.

Yep. I don't recollect Conte changing from a back 3 once, since he arrived and changed it originally. That says a lot.

Great player for us and thoroughly professional - especially considering he'd played most of his career at the highest level. His influence in getting us promoted not dissimilar to Joey's contribution last season.

As a pundit, tends to react more like a fan, which doesn't add a great deal of value/insight and as has been pointed out all his analysis is from the perspective of the big clubs.

I only caught part of the show and he was advising another lad who was hoping to do the same sort of step up.

He actually said to many trialists think they need to change their game when they get spotted and invited to clubs for a trial.
They need to play the way they were when they were spotted.

He changed for a few minutes against Arsenal last week, conceded a goal and changed back straight away.

The fact he once was a Claret shouldn't mask the fact he has insight and intellect on par with Paul Merson, IMO.

Met him once at a golf day. He said that he was in regular contact with Barry Kilby and emailed Barry when he found out that he was ill. I think that he is a Palace fan first, a Gooner second and rarely mentions his times at Wet Spam, Celtic or TM !

You never mention the lower points in a career.

They were against us at Stamford Bridge though. The only opponents this season who have hammered us in the league.

The only thing you will come out on top of this season is Rotherham and that is why you will be playing in league 1 next season

I also think Wright was superb for Burnley and as said very professional. At the time, I thought he was often left on the bench for too long, but he just got on with it and scored some very important goals.

As a pundit he's very poor in my opinion.

Danny Murphy is the best pundit around at the moment, talks some real sense even on Talksport. :)

He's not one of the Game's Big Thinkers, is he?

He's a pretty poor pundit because he cannot detach himself from his emotions in any way, shape, or form.
