Trump!... getting stuff done

Post by Damo » Fri Feb 17, 2017 12:53 am

Not a great fan of the orange skinned POTUS
But he's certainly proving even the most 'organic' coffee loving leftie wrong when it comes to serving up world peace.
Isreal and Palestine on the brink of a truce now.
Would not of got anywhere near that under obama

Didn't they already have a truce?

Unfortunately he has also increased the terrorist threat from Yemen sending an 'intelligence gathering' raid that ended up losing a special forces soldier, killing 10 children and an important US/Saudi friendly tribal leader. Successful mission according to his press secretary.

Don't for one second think or pretend under Obama things were all rosy in the garden.
whether you like him or loathe him he's not hanging around and not afraid to make decisions.
Most people never really bothered about Trump until he decided to run for presidency, then all of a sudden the smear campaign starts and everyone is on their high horse.

Err Ok but that bonkers press conference yesterday was surely evidence of paranoid megalomania and I'm not too keen on the stuff paranoid megalomaniacs get done as a rule.

I see his latest choice for National Security Adviser has turned him down after having to sack his other one.

Not quite getting this important issue done is he.

What has he actually done?

Saying he wants a one state solution, then getting contradicted by the US ambassador?

He hasn't just waved a magic wand and fixed everything.

Is it the coffee that's "organic" or the coffee-loving leftie ?
What happens if you don't like coffee and you're a leftie ?
What about being a leftie but only liking non-organic coffee ?
How about not being a leftie, liking organic coffee but thinking Trump is moronic ?

What even is all this left and right stuff, I mean REALLY. I mean, I know the theory about it, but is it just people who love people vs people who want everyone who doesn't fit into the jigsaw of society murdered en mass?

Really though? We're all left and right.

In fact, I am massively left, but I want all of my views forced on people in a right wing way.

He won't sort out the middle east, Blair has spent years as the middle east peace envoy and got the square root of naff all done......although that's probably more to do with his lack of interest in sorting it.

They all hate Israel and Israel hates them.
Israel seems to do what it wants and doesn't listen to anyone else, probably because they know the US is behind them most of the time.

Yeah right

That press conference yesterday was ace, but only if you thought it was a Saturday Night Live parody.

Also Lancaster I thought the interview on Newsnight could have come from an interview with any country run by a despot. Thus far I have been ambivalent about Trump but the interview with Seb. Gorka and Evan Davis on Newsnight plus the way Trump answered Jon Sopel really pushed me to the opinion that this administration will be an absolute nightmare. The idea from Trump that the blocking of his migrant ban was simply because the Courts got it wrong shows what a complete plonker he is.His attacks on the media from the Oval office look unprecedented.

He's effectively decided to bypass the media because he wants people to report what he wants them to hear.

All he needs though is about 52% of people to listen to him, and the other 48% can go and get stuffed.

Or 46% of the people who bothered to vote. As long as those 46% live in the right parts of the U.S.

Democracy, eh. Super stuff.

There was an interesting report somewhere (I'll try to find it) that the actual belief in democracy is fading in the West.

Trump could just be the beginning.

No, Trump is responsible for everything good that has happened since his inauguration.
Middle east Truce-Trump
Sun coming up in the morning-Trump
Burnleys good run this year-Trump
Commons Brexit vote-Trump
Anyone who does not believe this is dishonest, just ask Trump and the OP.

A great leader but at times s nutty as a fruitcake. He used to hold meetings from the bath. Was prone to bouts of Manic depression. Appearently liked corn flakes for breakfast, but preferred to cover them with whisky rather than milk. As a young man had it seemed a death wish (or bravery to the point of idiocy) in the Sudan and most of the plans he personally drew up or championed led to disaster. In balance he could also be brilliant inventing thee Tank, Seeing what Stalin was about twenty years before anyone else and came up with some of the best put downs in history.

All in all an amazing character.

I still reserve judgement on Trump... he seems bananas at times but maybe just what is needed in this world of falsehoods and double dealings. Will go at it like a bull in a china shop and shake things up for sure. The media are looking for everything they can to undermine him, but he is now more popular than ever with middle America despite everything that is going on.

As the old Chinese curse goes - may you live in interesting times.

I think the word we English use to describe Churchill is eccentric. His leadership during WW2 puts him up there with the iconic and great world leaders. However, he was one of the leading proponents of the disastrous Gallipoli campaign in WW1, and in the 1920's was responsible for returning the pound to Gold standard at a level that created economic chaos - he made some mistakes!

But by anybody's standards, he was an intellectual and effective world leader at a time when nationalistic and simple populist policies had led the world to near oblivion.

Trump is at the start of his time as a world leader. I just can't see history being written about him in the same way as Churchill.
