Cheers. Says in hindsight he wouldn't have left. Wonder if he attempts to explain his celebration against us.

Was never offered the managers job." I wouldn't have left in hindsight. It was a difficult period."

Re: Long Steve Davis Interview on Radio Lancs
No point in him trying to explain it to be honest.
Its not going to make any difference if you think he's as bad as Coyle is it?
Its a shame that a player who gave such good service to us is so disliked for a fist pump at the Reebok.

Not sure if that's aimed at me but in no way do I regard him as bad as Coyle. He's one of my all time favourite players. I also don't blame him for leaving at all, but the fist pump surprised me and I wonder if he regrets it, that's all.Lancasterclaret wrote:No point in him trying to explain it to be honest.

I think the fist pump comment is more because of what we fans thought of him,a bit like if G Little had come back and done it.Not on .

Not aimed at you Fretters
Plenty on here think he's as bad as Coyle, and as I've already said its a real shame that one of our genuine heroes of the lower leagues isn't really getting the respect he's due.

Not heard the interview but to me he is worse than coyle. His leaving was a bigger betrayel. He has been trying to talk to fans about for the last couple of years. If coyle had been a huge success and was now man u manager he wouldnt give a monkeys.

Nonsense ! He'd no idea whether he'd still have a job when Coyle's replacement arrived. He sought but failed to get an assurance from the Board,so he did what was best at the time to secure his own and his family's future....steve1264b wrote:Not heard the interview but to me he is worse than coyle. He had no job at Burnley and was told it depended on who the new manager was. He took the only job on offer, you can't blame him for that.
As far as celebrations go, he was probably pretty pi55ed off with the way such a loyal servant had been treated by Burnley. I think many of us would have felt the same, if treated the same by our employer.

Re: Long Steve Davis Interview on Radio Lancs
Obviously different people hear/are told different things. In the immediate aftermath of Coyle leaving I thought the board turned to Davis. The club was in turmoil. I seriously doubt they were saying 'no guarantees' to the one person most likely to bring stability. When Coyle walked the club were totally unprepared.
The sequence of events is the key. My understanding was once Davis declined an initial offer from the club they then started to look for a new manager outside of the existing set-up. At which point they said whoever was appointed would, understandably, be allowed to bring in their own back room staff.

Re: Long Steve Davis Interview on Radio Lancs
I think that there was a bit more to it than met the eye. He talked of one or two things in the promotion season that he had words about with Kilby and Flood. Any idea what that was?
I prefer not to remember him by who he left to be with, but instead remember him by what a good player he was for us and the success we had when he was here playing for us.

Re: Long Steve Davis Interview on Radio Lancs
As I said different people, different things.
I haven't listened to the interview. I was told, at the time, that immediately after Coyle walked he was offered the manager's job for the remainder of the season but turned it down. But if SD says he wasn't offered it, then fair enough - he's set the record straight.

Re: Long Steve Davis Interview on Radio Lancs
Yes a good player for us and someone who we all knew was giving his everything for BFC. I had the utmost respect for him until he jumped ship and joined Coyle and co. However, none of us are sure about the circumstances surrounding his defection and only Barry Kilby and other board members at the time know the real truth. Many of us make wrong turns in our working life's and I am sure Davis regrets following the slimy one. Having said that, I would not want him back at Burnley in any capacity. We have moved on. Not sure he has though.

Why are you not sure he has Jamesy?
A Radio Lancs feature interview, he's glad that we are back in the Premier League and he's got a job that he likes.

Of course he is going to say he has got a job that he likes. It is just my opinion that he hasn't moved on and regrets the path he has taken.

The fist pump at Bolton shows that the fist pump in the picture above (that you all love) meant....... **** all. You show me a fist pumper, I'll show you a bullshitter.
One fist pump at Bolton means nowt, but that one pictured above proves some kind of point and gets liked by people who are staying the Bolton one was nothing??? Dual standards, and disappointing from some.
He's a ****. And that's a fact.

Re: Long Steve Davis Interview on Radio Lancs
Still find this amazing. Did anyone actually want him to stay and become manager?
1) Where was he going to pull a back room team from?
2) What managerial experiences would he of shared with the team apart from his time with Coyle?
3) why on earth would he stay and then be out of work a few weeks later?
He was a fantastic servant to the club and a big part of the reason the club is where it is now.

Re: Long Steve Davis Interview on Radio Lancs
Great player. So vital for us in so many games at the level we were at.
I didn't like the way he left, no matter whether he was offered a contract or not.
What I can't forgive is the fist pump and the way he jumped off the bench to do so....how often did he behave like that when he was part of our coaching staff on the bench? Seems to me like it meant a little more to him and that he was moving on very quickly.
I care diddly squat whether he was offered something with our club or not and forgive him for nothing.
I don't blame him too much for joining Coyle. I do hold him accountable for the fist pump and there is no way back from that. I wouldn't be rude to him but that's probably the extent of my cordiality.

Some embarrassing comments on this thread.
Nobody knows the truth about what he was offered by Burnley - if anything. But he left because he must have had a better offer from Bolton....it may have been his only offer.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing and whilst he says he regrets it now at the time he thought it was the right thing for him and his family. For me there is no "judas" about this move - the person who sh-it on us from a great height was Coyle.
As a player Steve Davis was excellent for Burnley. Yes we were in lower leagues but he was class.
He left us because we sold him to a club who were bigger financially than us at the time - what has happened since to the fortunes of Luton and us is irrelevant to Davis leaving at the time he did....and we needed the cash.
I really don't get why people are so wound up by him leaving - lots of players have left Burnley - look what Robbie Blake did. He demanded a move and we were forced to sell him. I have no issue with this but why is that any different to Steve Davis leaving ?

Slagging him off for fist-pumping when his team scored is pretty lame.
