This is a Burnley messageboard. Drama-queenery and over-reaction are a pre-requisite of registering.
The levels of panic are embarrassing.
Andre Gray has been sold. Andre Gray. Our top scorer from last season is still here. Our top scorer will start on saturday. Hey, we might even try to pass it to him more often!
Anyone would think we'd just lost a Gary Lineker or an Alan Shearer or summat. Give your heads a shake.

Re: we are going down
We have a replacement for Keane. His name is spelt T-A-R-K-O-W-S-K-I. Is he better? No. Will he be adequate? Nobody knows. But he'll still be "replacing" Keane.
Re: we are going down
Gray in the Championship did a superb job, struggled last season to have that impact and if you take away his 3 against Sunderland wasn't exactly prolific and finished behind Vokes in the Burnley golden boot. He wanted to move closer to London, his agent was aware of the potential lottery win a move would bring. We just have to accept that we have done good business with Gray and now can spend some cash on 2 or 3 signings to improve our squad even more. Austin was sold and left us in a right old pickle but guess what we overcame that and got even better, I believe we can do the same again following Grays departure.

Re: we are going down
If Andre Gray was not considered a valuable and important member of the team why did BFC offer him a lucrative and much improved contract to stay? Not rumour but confirmed by BFC that such an offer was made. Andre Gray was the only player on the books that offered the team any real pace. Vokes, yes, was the leading goal scorer - he scored 1 more goal than Gray.
We didn't need to sell Gray to make money available for signings. We already have plenty of money available but cannot attract the calibre of player needed to Turf Moor.

There used to be a general manager of the Montreal Canadiens in the NHL named Sam Pollack. He used to say, "If I got the best player in a multi-player trade, then I've won the trade." Quantity does not make up for quality. 3 signings for the money received for Gray means that we've lost.

"Actually, how good was this offer though?
BFC website calls it a substantially improved new offer.
Obviously it did not match the offer made by Watford but we rarely can better the wages and conditions offered by other clubs in the PL or by the big city clubs playing in the Championship as past failed transfer negotiations prove.
Do we need a classy midfield to lump it up to Big Sam and Jon Walters?

Well, yeah. He retired about 30 years ago. Remember, the Habs haven't won the cup since 1983 (which is around the time Pollack retired). The days of "Les Glorieux" are long gone.

Re: we are going down
If I'd been told 2 months ago that we were losing Gray and Keane, but keeping Defour and Heaton, and getting Cork, I'd have been rather chuffed. I always expected Keane to go. Cork is an excellent signing. And Defour is a class act. Gray can be replaced. And in all honesty, I think pre season has hinted at a 451, and I have no problems with Vokes at the top of that.

I wouldn't say we are by any stretch dead certs for relegation.
But - 2 days before the start of the season, we've allowed our best defender and arguably our best striker from last season, and certainly the two fastest players in the squad, to leave, and we've thus far brought in no sort of replacement for either of them.
If you were a neutral ranking the strength of the teams in order, you'd have us 18th.

Re: we are going down
I think we'll really struggle to stay up with the current squad, there is a chronic lack of quality depth everywhere but the midfield IMO. We'll have to hope some deals are way down the line and we're not firing out emails on deadline day to ask if anyone's got any players going this time.

Ffs, can't even be bothered reading pushmecats drivel.
The squad is good enough to be in the Prem....we'll recruit well........not going to be a top six club, but to stay in the Prem will be a result, which means some great days, some predictable days.
But we're not playing Tuesday Saturday Tuesday Saturday,
Against Carlisle, Southend, Blackpool, Fleetwood.
And as fir Andrew Gray............
Goodbye and no statue.

At least the Premier League money saved the club from administration/extinction etc. and will allow supporters to watch 'football' at Turf Moor for the next 100+ years.
It will be nice to get back to normal in the Championship/League 1/League 2 etc. where 'normal supporters' might be able to purchase a car park pass etc. and an occasional VIP Hospitality Package might cost £100 instead of £250 !! At the moment only blue badge holders can buy a car park pass at a cost of £200 per blue badge !! Even the special offer of a twix, a pie and a coffee may be reduced from £5.50 to £3.00 approx. !!

absolutely that would be a dream world, it would mean he would have to do something he hasn't done in 10 years and managed only once in his career, that's get into double figures for the season. A feat only managed once in the championship. Fact of the matter is Walters has a very poor goal scoring record throughout his career

I am sad to see Andre go.
He was the right player at the right time to get us promoted.
He had one year left on his contract. The board have tried to deal in a way which is best for Burnley. I am sure they would have preferred the timing to be different but there are other parties involved.
We have a superb manager who has worked wonders and if he manages to get the same performance levels from his players this season we will do well.

Re: we are going down
If Andre Gray wanted to leave, then he's best gone. Is it ideal so close to the season starting? No. But he's by no means irreplaceable; I'd much rather be a striker down for a few games and get someone in wanting to wear the shirt. The alternative carries the risk of a less committed Gray resenting us blocking a move, running down his remaining 12 months.
We've thrived under dyche in so small part, due to everyone being 100% on board.
It's speculation to say Gray would have been disruptive, but Dyche would've weighed up the balance of keeping him for one more season or taking the money - we have to trust he knows what was the best decision for the club.
This isn't the disaster some are making it out to be, especially since we don't know if we have signings lined up. This decision certainly doesn't decide our fate come next may, that's for sure

I will be concerned if Arfield is first choice.
Kean and Barton will be sadly missed .
We need someone with pace upfront otherwise the opposition will push up 20 yards and play in our half as they did when Gray was absent.UTC

Cork for Barton? Seems like one for one to me. Keane and gray to replace and imho, tarka has to prove he ISNT the man. And if he DOES prove that, we have January in which to solve that problem. So that leaves gray to replace.
Doesnt sound all that bad really does it?

We didn't need to sell Gray to make money available for signings. We already have plenty of money available but cannot attract the calibre of player needed to Turf Moor.
We have just given Kevin Long a 3 year contract, it logically follows Gray was on a par with Kevin Long as far as being valued by the club.

Its all part of the show...
If, however, your psychology is so badly affected by a loss, then it maybe time to start taking up crochet rather than supporting the Clarets.
For the sake of your mental health of course.
