Martin Kelly
"Burnley are understood to be interested in signing Martin Kelly"
A little nugget tucked away at the end of this article about Palace: https://www.theguardian.com/football/20 ... iver-burke" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Can't find anything else about it but it sounds about right. Not a huge fan but for under £5 mil he'd be a cheap back up to Tarkowski.

Re: Martin Kelly
Thought he was a full back.

Is he not a right back?

Re: Martin Kelly
He is historically a full back, but played the last 9 games of last season as a centre back, as well as 3 cup games.

Re: Martin Kelly
I always thought he was a right back, like Gary Kelly.

Re: Martin Kelly
If we are targeting Martin Kelly, it suggests the club have passed up on the opportunity to get in a young player to develop and sell on for millions in profit, like Keane.

Re: Martin Kelly
He can play right back and centre back but I'm assuming we'd be playing him in the centre.

I would be assuming and hoping that we wouldn't be playing him at all.northernpowerhouse wrote:He can play right back and centre back but I'm assuming we'd be playing him in the centre.

Re: Martin Kelly
Good potential signing as back up right back. Bardsley has replaced Darwika as a right back in our squad not good enough for Prem football so now Kelly can replace Flannagan who would have played right back last season in the absence of Lowton

I wasn't going to even try deciphering that!KRBFC wrote:So basically Kelly can replace Bardsley

Re: Martin Kelly
Played centre half in the only side to lose to Burnley at home last season.
Yeah, no thank you.

Re: Martin Kelly
Kelly was a player I suggested in the closed season.
Very versatile and can play anywhere across the back. Still only 27.
At one point he was a good player. Just looks to have lost his way. Maybe SD is the man to get the best out of him.

I think we should just sign a specialist centre half. Crazy eh?UpTheBeehole wrote:He is historically a full back, but played the last 9 games of last season as a centre back, as well as 3 cup games.

No thank you. Still the Only player I've seen Vokes beat in a 25 meter race.
I'd rather we either went for a starter ( making Tarky back up again ), or a youngish player we can develop ( if Tarky is going to be backed ), with what little game time he would get.

Re: Martin Kelly
Can play right back and centre half - um - Mee and Taylor can play left Back and centre half (if pre-season is anything to go by) is this a bid to have 3 at the back as an option
or
is SD trying to go full on Pulis
or
given the source - is it just crap

Re: Martin Kelly
I think, for a laugh, we should go for a centre back specifically, rather than going for a jack-of-all-trades defender who is average at best.

Re: Martin Kelly
Palace fan at my office claims that he's going to be joining us.
He also said that generally he has been poor at centre half but when he played alongside Sakho towards the end of last season he was transformed into a quality player...

I think I can safely say that it's a no from me!
Re: Martin Kelly
But any player who was a centre back for Palace towards the end of last season was a makeweight as all their recognised CB were crocked.
Bit like signing Andy Farrell as back up keeper because he kept goal once in place of Pearce

Re: Martin Kelly
He was at fault for the second Swansea goal today, like I said earlier "god no"
Re: Martin Kelly
Oh dear. Just watched MOTD and Kelly's two goal gaffe. Can't get any worse, can it?
