John Stones
John Stones
I just don't see how he'll ever become this great defender that some people are proclaiming.
I don't think he'll ever become as good as Rio Ferdinand or John Terry were in their prime.

Re: John Stones
From reports I've read he's playing better than he was last season.
Is that not the case?

Re: John Stones
Who said he was going to be as good as Rio? With City's attack he doesn't need to be. A far better defender than Keane will ever be despite some of the wild claims on here throughout Keanes time with us. I guess the fact Stones left Everton to further his development and Keane joined Everton kind of says it all.

Re: John Stones
Ferdinand and Terry were good at defending, but times have moved on. I think if you're with a side like Man City, it's about control, turning and distribution. John Terry took about 3 minutes 20 seconds to turn, he was that slow. Defending he was great, but I don't think guardiola ranks that as his priority. He wants defenders who can turn quickly and release the ball. Neither Ferdinand or Terry could do that quick enough.

Re: John Stones
Stones went from Barnsley, to Everton to City...
Keane left Utd reserves to become first choice with us and then on to Everton.
Once the manager at Everton gets his act together and sorts his team out, Keane will be better protected and may eventually move on again to a better team.
Stones last season was left massively exposed by a poorly organised City team, no regular CB partner and lesser quality full backs etc.
Can you see the similarities KRBFC or are you going to ignore them?

I thought he was excellent today, although we didn't give him a lot of defending to do.

Re: John Stones
Logically, all it says to me is that Everton sold a defender to Man City, so they needed to buy a new one. Is that all you were also trying to say, KRBFC?KRBFC wrote:Who said he was going to be as good as Rio? With City's attack he doesn't need to be. You see what you want to see as per usual.KRBFC wrote:Yeah you're talking in "ifs and buts" again, I'm typing what I see, no "coulda woulda shoulda" nonsense.
Everton aren't playing as a unit, meaning their defence isn't getting protected.
This means their defenders are more likely to make mistakes under pressure.
That's all it is.
If the manager can sort that out their defence won't leak as many goals, because as everyone knows a defence needs protection.
You should know this fact, but I'm guessing it doesn't suit your blinkered view?
Re: John Stones
Everton play with 2 holding midfielders, I'm not sure what more protection the defenders need but it suggests to me individually they simply aren't good enough to play for Everton.Sidney1st wrote:You see what you want to see as per usual.

Re: John Stones
One of Everton's issues will also be the number of new personnel, they're still getting used to each other.
They're also missing Lukaku, who's movement etc helped to keep opposition players occupied.
It all adds up and leads to gaps across how the team plays.
One day you'll understand all that.

Re: John Stones
I'd be tearing my hair out in games if I was a Man City fan watching the defenders and goalie unnecessarily tip tapping it about in the box.
That's utter shite whoever your defenders and goalkeeper are.

We had the deflected chance with Arfield when we intercepted the ball on the edge of their box.Bin Ont Turf wrote:I'd be tearing my hair out in games if I was a Man City fan watching the defenders and goalie unnecessarily tip tapping it about in the box.

Suicidal defending and they are very lucky they can score the goals because in tight games it could cost them.

Totally agree. Laughable what some of the simpletons on here were saying last seasonKRBFC wrote:A far better defender than Keane will ever be despite some of the wild claims on here throughout Keanes time with us.
Re: John Stones
Keane is the future England captain according to some on here despite not even being our captain. The delusional lot on here couldn't get enough of Keane's decent display for England against ??? (who was it again? San Marino?)mohamed69 wrote:Totally agree. Laughable what some of the simpletons on here were saying last season
Apparently I was negative for suggesting Keane was overrated, now it looks like I was 100% correct the entire time. I call it realistic, others call it negative..... Maybe I'm just smarter than the majority on here.

Re: John Stones
Sometimes a defender is only as good as the framework around him.
If the team isn't set up or performing well, the defenders have more to do and can often make more mistakes.
It isn't rocket science to the majority of us, just a few..
