Three match ban for Tarkowski

Post by ClaretTony » Thu Dec 21, 2017 11:34 am

He accepted the charge but argued against three match ban suggesting it was excessive - lost it and starts his ban immediately.

I have just bought some tomatoes for when Murray visits us. They should be soggy enough to pelt him with by the time he arrives.

What was the strategy behind accepting the charge, with the busiest period of games upon us? Wouldn’t denying it, requesting a personal hearing have been the way forward?

What would have been the point? He'd have still lost and he'd still have missed the next three games. He had until 6 p.m. on Tuesday to respond with the decision necessary before the next game.

Just looking at the fixtures and would you believe it, the day Brighton come to the Turf should be the day they get relegated.

I wondered whether the referee would have automatically shown red had it been seen but once they charged him it was never going to be anything else but a three match ban. We'd have wanted that had it been a player from any other club.

One thing Hughton had wrong with his protestations that they should have had two penalties - the first one wasn't and this incident was while the ball was dead waiting for a throw in so nothing other than the throw in could have been awarded.

Correct decision, there has to be uniformity. Tarky has only his self to blame, he's let his team mates down. I imagine SD will be fuming with him behind the scenes.

Don't think there was a delay to be honest. He had until Tuesday night to submit to the FA, the commission met yesterday and announced their findings this morning.

They can decide that the dive for Leicester didn't warrant a ban within a few hours, just dont understand the machinations of this process - I dont think there's enough transparency (but happy to be corrected if there is).

They decided that Tarkowski warranted a ban by Monday afternoon. Once the charge is made it's pretty much a formality that it will be upheld. I can count on the fingers of one foot the number of times I can recall an FA charge that wasn't upheld.

Can anyone think of one that wasn't?

Siege mentality now...whilst I don't particularly agree with the conspiracy theorists (i.e. the authorities picking on the little clubs), it does mean SD can use that (conspiracy theory) and pull everybody even tighter together and, hopefully, carry on picking up points in spite of everything.

Injuries, suspensions, all sorts of things happen over a season and we're still not half way through.

Lets just get on with it and see how good or how short we are. It's another learning curve, a bit like last season when Gray got 4 games.

A few days before the match it was reported on SSN that Chris Hughton had declared that the home matches against Burnley and Watford were "must win" games and the Brighton players were obviously prepared to go to any lengths to try and get a result.

I wonder how many Watford players they will manage to get sent off on Saturday? Watford don't normally need any help anyway.

Taylor or Cork or even Lowton could fill in, we are not devoid of options if Mee or Long gets injured.

Was always likely to happen and I know 3 games is 3 games but surely the silver lining to this is that we have 3 games over a short period so we are not missing him for 3 weeks.

I think Long having a run of games with Mee out means that we will not be that worse off in reality. The framework is the success of what we do and thankfully we are blessed with backups for each position that know and can carry out the framework.

No panic or drama from me.

You just can't elbow people

You can of course cheat by pretending to dive, deliberately set out to cause more damage to an injured opponent and tackle with no regard to an opponent's safety

May as well had elbowed him in the face, broke his nose and done him over properly.

That's what frustrated me with these namby pamby "headbutts" these players do and get 3 games.

May as well proper snot them and take half their face with it. Same punishment, leave them in no doubt you wanted to hurt them!

Can't really complain with Tarky's ban. What grates is the divers getting away with diving, and the apparent loophole that the likes of Kane and Alli have gotten away with their nasty challenges last week

I might be in a minority of one but I would certainly have demanded a penalty for us if for instance Wood had gone down like Murray did under a similar challenge from Dunk for eg.

I am struggling to see what Murray as done wrong tbh. Tarks was utterly stupid with the elbow sore hand or not and got way to close to his man in the box thus conceding a penalty.

Their is a limit MACCA. What you're suggesting probably carries a custodial sentence let alone a 3 game ban

I know, that's the point. Once the charge is made the FA have already made up their minds.

Nah doubt it. See nose breaking or leg breaking challenges weekly across the leagues.

If your going to do it, may as well connect.

I agree with your point about Murray though. I'd want a pen and red should it have been Wood on the receiving end.

So in that respect we gained a point if nothing else from the game, as I don't think we would have drew if down to 10 and the pen against.

And they're usually fully deserved. Look at the Tomer Hemed one; Brighton contested it, but it's a clear stamp. Three game ban and rightly so.

Show me examples of a player getting a ban for violent conduct where it wasn't warranted.

If he had smashed him in the face and blood was flying about I suspect the ref would have given a pen, even if he didn't properly see it.

The joke is if we was playing in League 1 he probably would have got away with the elbow.

Why? I'm not arguing that it wasn't warranted. I was responding to Rick's question about the FA process.
