It should liven up the 5 match series though. I still maintain Root is not the right man to be captain, good batsman, not a leader.

Joe Root was quoted last week as saying that he wanted England to be ruthless and give India a 5-0 Series drubbing.

What further motivation did India need to fight back in this series.

No problems.
Stokes has just come in and the selectors and Root are expecting him to make all the difference.
You'll be eating your words when he leads us to victory with a big 250! :D

Their attitude to batting is all wrong, the one day game has a lot to answer for.

Batsmen are no longer accustomed to 'Seeing off the new ball'. The influx of white ball cricket, which incidentally i like, is leading to more and more dismissals from batsmen trying to launch a bowler to the boundary and getting caught nicking or on the pads.
Its one thing to see a batsman being forced to play a good delivery and getting out, but it is annoying to see so called top notch players giving away their wicket with one day shots.

Why the hell are the England batsman chasing wide deliveries, when the objective is to save a Test match.

These are professional cricketers, supposedly the best in the country. As a very average club cricketer, I could shut up shop when I had to and bat to survive rather than to score runs. I find it very hard to accept that our batsmen can't adapt to the game situation.

Tiger, it's because they don't fully understand Test Match cricket.

Im not a big fan of cricket, so I’ll put my hands up if i’m wrong. But players at the top of any sport should be able to change their mindset before each and every game. They should know what is needed and when. They should know when to play their shots and when not to.

So I wouldnt say one day cricket as a lot to answer for but the cricketers themselves

you would hope so but it evidently hasn't been the case in recent times.

Our batsmen are simply not good enough .It is not rocket science. Our bowlers are winning the matches and they cannot do that all the time reference this test

The Indians have adapted in this game and they are they are only really interested in the IPL and the shorter form of the game in their country!

It does play a part but it doesn't really matter because the only tests we will play in future are the ashes and that will change like the women's game where it's a combination of 20/20, 50 overs and a few tests (the tests will probably be shortened to 4 days as well).

Tests like this will not be happening in 5 years time so I'm not that fussed tbh. I love and prefer test cricket to the shorter formats but I have resigned myself to the fact that it's not going to be around for much longer!

Moeen has scored a double century today for worcestershire, must be in contention for the next Test, there will have to be changes anyway,as Bairstow will miss the rest of the series by all accounts.

Which county has Moeen scored 200 against? :)

It was only against Yorkshire though ;)

slightly off topic but I hope the dodgy actions committee are having a close look at Bumrah.

Maybe a tad optimistic, Mel. However 201-4 and needing a mere 320 more....you never quite know.....

The second new ball due. A lot depends on whether Stokes and Buttler can survive that period tonight and tomorrow morning. A very big ask IMO. Or we could just send in TheFamilyCat that would guarantee us a draw.

Fortunate to be sat here in the Trent Bridge sunshine and have to say that's been a fantastic knock from Buttler. Thoroughly enjoyed it
220-4 by the way

BOOM BOOM BOOM BUMRAH

3 quick wickets puts the skids under England.

Amazing that India have the 4 quickest bowlers in this series.

Oh FFS!
Checked score before leaving work 206-4, got home 30 mins later and it's 241-8 (would have been 241-9 but for no ball) :?

‘Shut up shop’ for the first five balls of the over then just take a single off the last ball of every over. If you started first thing tomorrow morning you’d be 90 not out off 540 balls at the close of play... piece of ****...

That, I'm afraid to say, would be my downfall. I was very much swing or block. I had very little in between.
