Brighton may have done enough to be safe with 33 points. Scrap between the bottom 5, with Norwich the first to confirm their relegation.

So long as Brentford or Fulham take 3rd spot in the promotion positions, I'll have the same number of "near by" games to get to next season, if and when they start to let fans back into the grounds.

UTC
Brighton probably need 1 more win, and maybe a draw somewhere to be safe, the bottom 5 are struggling to move out of the 20 odd point territory, and none of them can buy a win, their form pre-lockdown/post-lockdown is dire, and it's getting to the stage where they'll need to start stringing back-to-back wins together, can't see that happening in their present malaise.

If there were any doubts before tonight (there shouldn’t have been) they’ve now been put to bed - surely!!

Finish the season strongly, get Dyche and Garlick signed up to marriage counselling, spend a bit in the window - roll on next season :)

Sean Dyche and Mike Garlick saw their counsellors last night, a team of footballers in Claret and Blue.

Little bit surprised there's not more "we've got 40 points" celebrations on this mb since yesterday evening. Maybe it's because we've still got 7 games left - and only 3 points away from 7th.

We've done brilliant in the prem these last 4 years.
If there was a downside, it's our inability to see the season out. Almost get safe and hit the beach.
I don't think we can reach Europe, but it would be nice to see it out and get as high as we can.

Yes. If one of the top 6 wins the FA Cup, I believe.

All bottom 4 have got challenging games to play. West Ham have also got games against Norwich and Villa, so, if WHU lose those two games they are effectively only on +1 at present, and if WHU win both those games then Norwich are effectively on -2 and Villa on +1. I guess Eddie and Bournemouth will be looking at those WHU games are working what it means for their chances of "escape."

By my reckoning if West Ham lose on Wednesday it’ll be mathematically impossible for three teams to finish above us.

That is based upon WHU playing Villa and Watford so at least two of those drop points and would become negative

It doesn't work. If west ham lose on Wednesday, they could also lose to both Watford and villa leaving both of those able to finish above us.

What is certain, though, is that if we win one point, then that will see us mathematically safe.

We could be safe before we play again with Bournemouth to play twice at home to Newcastle and away to Man Utd and Watford once away at Chelsea, they could both be negative by Saturday night. Looking at it again draws would not be enough for them they need to win. Happy days safe with 6 matches to play??!!

In the last 10 matches we’ve had 6 wins 3 draws and 1 defeat
We’ve affected teams by

Liverpool..........29
Man City...........32
Leicester..........41
Chelsea............36
Man Utd ..........33
Wolves ............30
Sheffield Utd.....37
Arsenal ...........33
Tottenham .......36
Burnley
Everton ...........35
Palace ............38
Newcastle ........35
Southampton ....39
Brighton ..........42
West Ham ........46
Watford ..........45
Villa ...............45
Bournemouth ....44
Norwich ..........44

Some big numbers towards the bottom and unsurprisingly only Liverpool average under 3 per match.

Surely Brighton's magic number is -1 now. They can only reach 48 and we have 49! Is it because the spreadsheet adds 1 to the points total in order to take goal difference out of the equation?

Palace have got Man United and Spurs at home, and a trip to Wolves left, they need to win all three, and Burnley to get nothing from our remaining fixtures to overtake us, so I'm going out on a limb and saying we can't finish worse than 13th ....

Hmm, why are you looking down? I'm looking at what the Clarets need to do qualify for Europa.

Need to beat Wolves, Norwich and Brighton.

We play Wolves on Wed 15th. Spurs have Newcastle same day and Arsenal have L'pool. Everything will be a lot clearer after that. (Sheff Utd play Leicester the next day).

After the last experience of Europe and given our likely squad size, I wouldn't be mortified if we finished one below a European place, thus ensuring maximum prize money for our League finish, without having to play in Europe .... I fully realise this is a minority view ...

One more win leaves Everton & Saints having to win every game.
10th looking a minimum position.

After the last experience of Europe and given our likely squad size, I wouldn't be mortified if we finished one below a European place, thus ensuring maximum prize money for our League finish, without having to play in Europe .... I fully realise this is a minority view ...
Well, I, for one, agree with you.

Agreed. As high as possible without actually qualifying would do me.

A win today and a Spurs loss would be nice
