Clarettony,

The old site started raising money for the youth and as you know in the early days I helped out.

How about the site starting a similar campaign raising money for a food bank.

The club don’t need the money anymore.

Pretty sure the site could make a massive contribution raising money to buy food.

This site also raises money for the youth department although that needs reviewing because there is precious little support now from the club.

As for the Foodbanks, we are doing the collections and that gives every supporter the opportunity to contribute.

Great to read about this initiative. But as several people have said it's scandalous that food banks are needed all over the country.
My wife volunteers one day a week to help at a food bank in Wandsworth one of London wealthiest Councils. Where council tax hasn't increased for ten years.
There's an election coming up time to forget about Brexit and vote for someone you will reverse this trend.

Very much so and I’ll look at things given one or two things that have happened with the youth foundation but what we are doing now is giving every single supporter who goes to the Turf an opportunity to contribute.

Apologies Tony that was not a criticism.

As you are aware the people of this forum can do amazing things.

You started out trying to raise £200 and it ran into thousands in the end.

When you started the club had limited funds, now it has almost unlimited funds.

This is new high profile thing, we could just be part of it.

Fantastic work Tony

Whist working on a gastro ward a couple of years ago I had a patient who came in very underweight.
The bloke was suffering from mental health issues due to time he spent in the forces. He was struggling to keep down a job and found himself homeless.

The dietitian went to see him and afterwards I was reading her report. The bit that struct me was “patient doesn’t have access to food”. I didn’t know what that meant and thought it could be some strange medical term. I asked the dietitian who said “it means he can’t afford to eat enough”. I couldn’t believe it. One of the riches countries in the world and people are starving. The sad thing is the dietitian said they are seeing this more and more at an alarming rate

It’s frightening Inchy just how many people are in need and every single tin that goes in those bins is helping someone.

Please consider bringing a tin for the wheelie bin next weekend folks.

Every donation will make a difference to those in need in OUR town.

I suspect that following the election results last night, the wheelie bins will be needed more than ever for local food bank collections in the coming few years.

Please give some serious consideration with regards to bringing a couple of tins for the collection outside the ground before tomorrow’s game. Every single item makes a huge difference to those in need.

Thank you.

John

According to Right_winger today, the food banks are just "another trending fad".

Jesus wept.

Hope the collections continue to go well, John.

CT. Me and Mrs Aclaret like to give a donation to charity each Christmas, not sure who she is giving to but is there an address I can send off to the food bank.

If it’s after 2:45 you can take them to the community unit by the Fanzone.

Well done to everyone who contributed today, just to give a little can help so many that are struggling. Also a special mention to the people stood there manning the bins on a cold afternoon.

Maybe he could volunteer to work in one? Sad how they are now just an accepted part of society and we are being asked to donate food on the way to watch the richest football league in the world.

Been announced numerous times that there would be no collections at the Manchester United, Aston Villa & Peterborough games but will be back for Leicester. Struggling to get volunteers and some of the supporters clubs have not been willing to help.

Okay. thanks. I've not heard any announcements, if it was via the tannoy system in the ground then I've no chance of hearing it, it's probably one of the worst systems around. I'll make a note for the Leiceste game.

Not being funny, but supermarkets just have an empty trolley that people fill up. Why lose the opportunity of people turning up with tins?? No volunteers holding receptacles

Question for those who organize the foodbank:

I've seen the wheeliebins into which I can make my deposits.

I needed a new vegetable peeler the other day so I bought one but bizarrely the only "one" available came in a pack of three.

Would it be appreciated if I put two brand new potato/vegetable peelers into a foodbank bin?

The manager down at the foodbank left in November and unfortunately they haven't made any attempts to contact us since nor return our calls so not sure what they are most desperately short of but they will undoubtedly be desperate.

There always seems to be a bin out at the bottom of Pendle Way, I walked past it only 10 minutes ago.

Chatting with a guy who was collecting stuff from a local supermarket and he said that instant mashed potatoes, baked beans, Fray Bentos pies, pasta, tins of tomatoes, bags of instant rice and kids treats such as chocolate were always needed.

Tony - to hear that they haven't made any contact is very disappointing! Especially considering all the time and effort that yourself and the various supporters groups put in to pre-match collections last season!

The Foodbank Assistant Manager lives very near to that bin-site, which is why it's there ... ;)

And we were supporting them with one on Padiham Road so they've gone and put one right across the road I believe.

Ah, that might be the door i knocked on then before Christmas with a couple of bags, as i wasnt sure they would fit in the bin/crush what was already in, and I'd missed the padiham road drop off :D
