What a goal by Martinelli to equalise for Gooners.
Chelsea corner he chases a defensive header and goes all the way to score.
Chelsea defender fell on his arse on halfway line.

They’ve never been out of it. They’re in very poor form

Not great scores that Villa winner was a sickener, but all we can do is put enough points on the board,Watford despite their recent run are still in the mire,Brighton are struggling for wins, and even somebody like Palace or even Arsenal could yet be dragged into the dogfight.

We've still to play several teams in the bottom half at home, you'd hope for a decent haul from Bournemouth,Brighton,Watford and perhaps even Arsenal finally, and Sunday showed that we can take points off teams we wouldn't expect.

They're probably including the FA Cup game they lost to Sheffield Wednesday.

The three home games against Bournemouth, Brighton and Watford are humongous six pointers.
Up to us.

Arsenal played really well to say they’ve only had ten men for much of the game.

:x game at the Bridge,Chelsea ahead through Azpilcueta, and then Arsenal quickly equalise, this Chelsea side just can't see games out, even against 10 men.

Probably already been said but I presume Luiz gets a 1 game ban therefore misses Arsenals cup game that he probably wasn’t going to play in anyway and is free to play against us?

Interesting that form guide posted above, because we have only had two bad results in it despite being 18th. The others all went to, well, form.

Still have to deliver of course, 40 points is always the target, even if most seasons it needs fewer. No point sweating on others, just need those 40 points.

The problem with being happy to finish 17th is that it's very close to 18th.

Just had a look at the table two seasons ago after 24 matches. Stoke got relegated in 18th on 33 points.

So might only need another 7 points...we shall see. It really depends on the top teams. Basically Liverpool take every point they play for and if Man City hit form like they had at the end of last season it can mean less points at the bottom. I think if we get another 10 points that should be enough but I think we can get 15+.

This was how it ended up. It was actually Swansea who finished in 18th, but it shows quite a few sides struggling.

Why a Bournemouth win as the gap between us and them would be cut to just four points?
Pointless now because we know the results but the Bournemouth win keeps Brighton below us. The more teams in the mix the better our chances. I see your point but I was just basing it on keeping anyone below us - below us. Not the best set of results really. The Everton draw was good but I think Southampton are pretty much out of it now. They are just playing too well. The Villa win wasn't great for us either. We really could use a point at least tonight. Recent history is in our favour to a degree, can't see a win but a draw could be a realistic hope. Anything better and I would be over the moon.

If Brighton are struggling so are we
Brighton 2 wins 4 draws from last 10 = 10 points lost 4
Clarets 3 wins from last 10. = 9 points. Lost 7
At the moment we either win o lose

It's looking to me that 40 pts will be essential this time to stay up. Maybe more. Must teams apart from Norwich and the top few are much of a muchness and any if those are capable of winning enough games to stay up.

We can't rest on our laurels.

What everyone might be forgetting is that the start of the second half of the season (i.e. match 20 onwards) has seen us with possibly the most difficult fixture list for anyone in the division. Conversely, the bottom sides have all been playing against one another (and seem to for the next couple of rounds of matches).

Rightly or wrongly, I thought if we can be out of the bottom 3 after the Arsenal game then we should be OK as our fixtures get significantly easier and most others at the bottom of the table get more difficult. That does pre-suppose we'll pick up points against the likes of Southampton, Bournemouth, Newcastle etc.

Still think we'll get over 40 points but would be surprised if we needed more than 38.

Ironically though if we'd have been told that over the 4 games (Chelsea, Leicester, MU and Arsenal) hat we'd have got 3 draws, we'd have all been fairly chuffed bearing in mind how we've been playing, however we've ended up with 3 so far and 2 games to go!

Gee whiz, don’t be daft. What’s the point getting depressed about a bunch of football scores you have no control of. Enjoy the games!
For example I thought it was terrific how Villa came back to equalise in the 95th minute or whatever. Great drama it was! And I was happy for Eddie getting back to winning ways and whatnot. Plus there was Newcastle coming back from the brink in the last minute. All very enjoyable!
I don’t want to crow but I’m having a lovely day reminiscing about last night.

I was just making the point that Brighton have averaged 1 point per game over their last 10 games
Which is more or less what they averaged over their first 14 games = 15 points

Correct. I do enjoy it when the little teams get one over on one of the big 6.
Obviously Burnley is my team and I want us to win, but I can still enjoy other clubs’ successes. Hey, it’s not as if what I desire is going affect what happens.

I think you're in the minority chekov. I always hope our rivals lose because we need all the luck we can get!

But I think that's just because I rarely enjoy football that's non Burnley related. I can see why you'd like to see the underdogs win but surely not if it poses a threat to your own team?
