The rise of Joey Barton
Could just get Fleetwood up via the playoffs
Hes managed to resurrect Ched Evan's career and got another good result away at Ipswich
I always believed ,despite the many sceptics , that Joey would make a good manager.Sometimes being a bit rough round the edges works in football management

Re: The rise of Joey Barton
Agree. He’s obviously a troubled past but sometimes that makes for the best successes.
He’s played at the top level.
He’s slogged it out in the championship (arguably when it was below him).
He’s determined.
He’s played for lots of different managers and styles.
He’s a leader and knows how to get the best out of those around him.
Hope he takes them up. He’s done a top job there and feel he has a genuine affinity for us.

Did anything come of his arrest at Barnsley or has it just not reached court yet?

Then there's Michael Duff at Cheltenham:cricketfieldclarets wrote: ↑Wed Mar 04, 2020 7:24 amAgree. He’s obviously a troubled past but sometimes that makes for the best successes.

Played at the full range of levels from non league to Premier League.
Generally kept his nose clean as far as I know.
Can't recall if he captained Burnley or Cheltenham.
Worked at youth level to start his non playing career.
I think I'd like Michael Duff as a person whereas I doubt I'd like Barton.
Who would you prefer as the next Burnley manager if it comes to that?

Yes he captained us on a few occasions I think.
I would want the next Burnley manager (hopefully in about another 20 years) to be the right man for the job whether he has been a Burnley player or not.
Duff was one of my all time favourite players and comes accross as a good guy. Hope he goes right to the top.

When it comes to that, I’d like to think those who are making the decision based it on more than whether they liked him or whether he kept his nose clean or not.Hipper wrote: ↑Wed Mar 04, 2020 9:36 amThen there's Michael Duff at Cheltenham:

Re: The rise of Joey Barton
I'm sure if Sean Dyche announced he was leaving there would be a rush on here from posters recommending Joey Barton and Michael Duff. With no disrespect to Duff, who is doing a terrific job at Cheltenham, I doubt anyone would even consider him if he hadn't played for us.
It reminds me of when Stan was leaving and all the speculation on the message board. For no other reason than him having played for Burnley, there were a number of posters suggesting Chris Brass. He'd just taken York out of the Football League.
But, back to the thread, and Joey is doing a good job although he's had fall outs with a couple of players recently who he's got rid of and he's had two red cards in recent weeks.

Re: The rise of Joey Barton
My neighbour’s boy is on loan at Fleetwood and got on from the bench last night. No bad reports about Joey from them. There’s no doubt he’s a divisive character but he was a tremendous signing for us and I hope he does well.

Re: The rise of Joey Barton
Said the same about Duff. He knows this club better than anyone else! Played for all of the managers who have had a big part in our recent success too. Will have learnt lots (good and bad) from Cotterill, Coyle, Laws, Howe and Dyche. And will have known all about working with different budgets and objectives.Hipper wrote: ↑Wed Mar 04, 2020 9:36 amThen there's Michael Duff at Cheltenham:

I think you are confusing things a bit. Fans were saying we need some brass not Chris Brass!ClaretTony wrote: ↑Wed Mar 04, 2020 10:49 amI'm sure if Sean Dyche announced he was leaving there would be a rush on here from posters recommending Joey Barton and Michael Duff. Re: The rise of Joey Barton
In all seriousness though The Brass suggestion is totally different to Duff or Barton.
I am not one who thinks we should definitely have an ex club man. And it always seems to be the way with fans wanting one. Whether its Brass, Flynn, Heath, Davis, Laws or whoever else fans wanted. But I think Duff and Barton make a lot of sense if we ever need to look to replace Dyche.

Re: The rise of Joey Barton
Barton is doing a fabulous job there and I'm made up for the guy. Just a thought though, I don't know about the play offs, looking at the table last night after another great win they are only 4 points off automatic and they have a game in hand on most around them, add to that they are on a brilliant run of form, taking points off promotion rivals left right and centre. They play Balckpool at home next and that should be a cracker (and 3 points given form for both sides).

Next Manager for me wouldn't be Barton or Duff.
Pep Guardiola providing he hasn't turned into a Mourinho Jekyll & Hyde character. but only if our Board chaired by Popov al Hashim Ding approves

Re: The rise of Joey Barton
I think we're talking somewhat different characters.
If Joey was accompanied everywhere he went by SD he'd be fine.
He was fantastic for us in his one full season, both on and off the pitch. Got to be said but it was a masterstroke by our manager.
MD, however, seems like the sort of man who would fit in anywhere.
But both are fondly remembered at TM. Michael Duff more so because of the time he spent with us.

I know what you mean. When Coyle left some people thought that Laws was the right man for the job!ClaretTony wrote: ↑Wed Mar 04, 2020 10:49 amI'm sure if Sean Dyche announced he was leaving there would be a rush on here from posters recommending Joey Barton and Michael Duff. If anybody was getting the job only as an ex-player Paul Cook would be ahead of Duff & Barton IMO.

Paul Cook not struggling at Wigan now? Think we are past the days of going back to ex-players. If Dyche leaves then the board would surely show more ambition unless Joey or Paul do wonders at Fleetwood and Wigan.

Duff has been with the club for many years and knows everything about the past and future for us.
Barton was an elite level player and is proving he can manage on limited resources too.
Cooks a decent championship manager who just happened to play for us.

Re: The rise of Joey Barton
Cook, Barton, Duff, throw Alexander and Mellon onto the list as well. A good list of credible ex players who know what the club is about with success in the lower leagues. I’m not saying what order I’d put them but when Dyche eventually leaves (hopefully not for a long time) we do have some better options than we have had before from the ex player angle.
