This was the latest in a series of wildlife encounters I have had recently, but this one was miles ahead of anything I've ever had in Ireland.

I had gone to the River Dodder, where there are regularly foxes, which are fairly easy to photograph. But then a Sika deer walked into the area, and actually walked right up to the Vixen. This was my favourite photo from the encounter. Just not something that you see, and feel very fortunate to have seen it,

We have had house Martins now for about the last eight years. They have built a nest on the top of a Robin nest box and have just returned about 10 days ago and are busily getting on with their lives tidying it out. :D

I start from just above the Summit but the first mile up to the Waggoners is the most difficult. I'm usually having to persuade myself to continue after that. If it is a straight walk up to the reservoir, round it and back, it's just under 5 miles. Depending on how I feel I add a bit to it, furthest I've managed was yesterday when I did just over 6 miles.

I can imagine. Some cars can struggle up that hill towards the Waggoners. Lovely peaceful spot though once you make it. Very impressive

Have to say I feel blessed. Living just a couple of miles from the town centre I have the reservoir just a mile and half or so from my front door and then there's always the option of Crown Point and the land between there and the res. Within just a few minutes from my front door I can be virtually in the middle of nowhere. I've lived here for just over 30 years and only now am I beginning to appreciate it.

Ethereal images from first trip back to NT Style Mill garden. I love all the different textures - the infrared really brings them to the fore without the usual focus on colours familiar places through a new lense!

Thanks Buxton, Lakesdistrict and Spades. It was amazing to witness, very lucky to be there at that moment. The vixen bared her teeth, but quickly backed down and walked around the deer to resettle down in her usual patch, watching the world go by.
