Today I buried my 10 month old Grandson.

Post by beddie » Wed Jul 01, 2020 9:32 pm

Today I buried my beautiful 10 month old grandson Joey Patrick Bedford. Joey was our first and only Grandchild, born on the hottest day of the year on 24 July 2019. He was a happy baby, cheeky grin with an infectious laugh. My son Jordan and his wife Gina's world came crashing down when their "normal, happy little baby" suddenly became ill towards the end of May and was admitted to Hospital on June 8, he had typical virus symptoms two weeks before. He was admitted to James Cook University Hospital and transferred to Newcastle RVI- ICU. After 9 days despite the hard work of everyone at the Hospital he did not respond to treatment and passed away on 17 June. Jordan and Gina are now telling others to trust their gut instinct when they know something is not right. They took him back to the Doctors five times in a three week period because they knew something was not right, it was on the fifth occasion that he had a seizure at the walk in centre in Redcar. Numerous tests, scans and MRI's revealed that Joey's spleen was enlarged and his brain was swollen. We still do not have any idea as to the cause of death and have been told that it could take up to 6 months for the Coroner's enquiry to be completed. The Neurosurgeon, Neuro Consultant, the infectious diseases team, cancer Consultant and anaesthetist at Newcastle were all involved, they even consulted Hospitals throughout the country and abroad, despite this they could not stop the swelling that ultimately took Joey's precious life. Jordan and Gina wish to make it clear that the NHS staff were amazing throughout. We as a family have decided to become involved in fundraising in Joey's name for a charity to be decided, probably towards research into children's medicine, we are all determined to make a difference to help others.

Our wonderful captain Ben Mee has spoken to Jordan on Instagram with words of comfort, for that I thank him most sincerely especially as Ben is also going through a tough time with his own daughter.

Life will not be the same for any of us. I miss little Joey more than words can say, he was nearly walking and had spoken his first words, "da daa". it was hard enough that we were unable to see him for over three months due to lockdown, however, the satisfaction we have from that though is that his daddy Jordan was able to have that special time with him being off work himself. One of our special photographs is of Joey in his full Burnley kit aged 3 months.

We (Auntie Sophie) have set up a crowd funding page should you wish to contribute and read more about Joey's journey, for that we would all be extremely grateful.

I'm hoping the link I've attached will open but if not perhaps somone would be kind enough to help me with it.

Thank you all so much for reading this.Joe.

That is so, so sad beddie. Mrs Vino and I have an eight month old grandson (our first), whom I haven't seen yet through living in Spain and the covid crisis. I have felt guilty about his but your story has brought tears to my eyes. Please be strong for yourself and your family. Love is the answer.

Wow. Where do I start. How brave you are to post. And how much must you all have gone through.

Heartbreaking especially as I have two babies myself either side of joeys age. What a beautiful little boy he is too.

I hope you can all find peace and comfort. And I hope the finds you raise go a long way to helping others and leaving a legacy for joey.

Donated on the link.

Best of luck to you and all of your family beddie.

To other posters. Shows you just never know what others are going through. This is the most extreme and upsetting example imaginable. Be nice to one another.

Goodness me - I am so sorry beddie for you and your family.

We lost our son coming up eight years ago. The feeling is like no other and not a day goes by in which I don’t glance up at the sky and offer a smile up to him. It helps me and I set myself a daily goal of doing something that would make him proud. I sometimes fail(quite a bit really!) but I know he’s with us as a family in everything we do.

One thing that was huge for me at the time was speaking to someone who’d been through the same- it helped massively. It sounds like our brilliant captain has fulfilled this with your son but if you or your son ever feel the need I’m more than happy to oblige in anyway shape or form.

Take care.

God bless little Joey.

My son was in Newcastle RVI ITU in January and February for five weeks, fortunately he is OK now and going back to work soon I hope.
The team there were totally professional and amazing people every one of them, and I am sure that they did their very best for your grandson.

It can't get any worse now, your family is at the bottom so the only way is up, be strong and pull your family through.
Great and selfless idea to set up the fund to help others and a fitting tribute to your grandson.

Deepest condolences to you.

Feel very proud of yourself that you had the strength to compose your post beddie, your pain at your sorry loss comes through clear. I think what your are doing to honour your grandson is admirable and touching.
I hope in time you have other grandchildren to help take this pain away. And that of your son and his wife and the rest of your family.

How brave of you to let us share in the lives of your family at this heartbreaking time. Joey is now at rest. The pain lives on. I hope your son Jordan and his wife Gina can find some comfort and solace from the many expressions of sympathy you have received and in the living memorial of Joey's life that you have planned. God Bless.
