Jack Cork
Can anyone see him replacing Brownhill when he's fit?
Not me.
Not me.
Re: Jack Cork
He's proven time again he's got a major role to play. So I can easily see him returning to the starting 11 when ready but probably not at the expense of Brownhill.

Re: Jack Cork
he is still an important player for us and s of today I expect him to return to the first team but not necessarily at the expense of Brownhill and I think it's great we will have good options that are capable of being first team players, which is obviously the aim to have options in every position.

Brownhill will go right if/when JBG gets injured.

Brownhill looks like a proper midfielder to me. Good positional sense, wants to be involved, quick feet, carries and passes the ball forward well. He will become a key player for us.

Re: Jack Cork
Cork is still a very good player and integral to our way of playing. At long last we have three genuine central midfielders and can rotate them

Re: Jack Cork
Definitely something I've noticed and an improvement on Hendrick is quicker feet, wanting to be involved and a general calmness in possession.Vino blanco wrote: ↑Thu Jul 09, 2020 3:39 pmBrownhill looks like a proper midfielder to me. I can't remember him giving the ball away or getting easily caught in possession and just seems to have an extra gear.
Will be a key player I agree.
Re: Jack Cork
I hope not, Westwood contributes majorly in workrate and assists and Brownhill has been tremendous for us, looks a natural partnership with Westy in there.
Brownhills form may well dip as with young players so Cork's experience will be vital.
As said above, nice to have three genuine options and strengthening the wide right this summer will be key to give us options. Disappointing that JBG (fitness) and Brady (fitness and form) haven't made that position their own.

Regularly shocked at those who don't appreciate how good Jack Cork is.

He came back from the enforced break like a new player. Back to his best. Shame he picked up the injury. It's a nice problem to have three capable midfielders battling for two spots though next season.

Re: Jack Cork
Didn't like Cork when we loaned him from Chelsea as a kid. Since then his game has improved 100% after spells at Southampton and Swansea, he as turned out to be an excellent signing

Getting caught in possession is down to a few thingsWoonderbah wrote: ↑Thu Jul 09, 2020 3:53 pmDefinitely something I've noticed and an improvement on Hendrick is quicker feet, wanting to be involved and a general calmness in possession.

Other players not in position, good defenders etc
But a lot is due to the players abilities. Cork does get caught in possession against the top teams whereas Defour less so when he played. Maybe quicker football brain. I do like Cork though. Hes been really good for us. It will be interesting to see how Brownhill develops
Signs are good.
Re: Jack Cork
Jack gets caught in possession far too many times for me
Would still like to see another cm with height/strength to win tackles and ariel battles
Brownhill is more than capable of playing centre before him but also see JB as the wide man in Hendrick/JBG role

Re: Jack Cork
As I was saying the other day, I think the emergence of Josh gives us an option to ge a bit more sophisticated. Cork is excellent defensively and reads the game well. He could easily play on the rhs of a back 3.
We would need a proper rs wingback, but we could play 3412 with Dwight in a free role behind Woody and Jay. Gets all of our best players on the pitch as well.

Re: Jack Cork
Cork lost his way last year but has been near his best in many games in this season, Dyche always says he thinks he is very underrated so I would imagine he will continue to be a key player for us - another that represents the club impeccably

Re: Jack Cork
If Brownhill keeps this form up then he will keep the shirt - like all players do. But Cork still has an important part to play and considering he won't play again until next season it will depend what shape we're in by then.

I've not seen any stats but from my viewpoint JC's our most industrious player and if SD's still here he'll quite rightly be the first name on the team sheet imo.

Re: Jack Cork
Jack has been singled out as being caught in possession. I noticed after the lockdown that on the hard dry pitches he was playing up a gear-bit like watching good five-a side. He had several really good games before his injury. We need that competition in midfield. We also know Westwood picks up a number of cards. We need all three and in pre-season SD might well experiment with all three in the same team. What we have in Josh is a very sensible purchase and good footballer. The pundits have already mentioned his skill and age. Come on Mr Rigg a few more of these wise purchases
Re: Jack Cork
Brownhill has made a really encouraging start to life in the PL, but that's exactly what it is, a start. He's played 5 games at the top level.
Jack Cork has proved over several seasons that he is a more than capable PL midfielder, a really consistent performer who Brownhill needs to emulate over a long period of time to be held in the same bracket.

I'm afraid he did on more than one occasion. Needs to tidy up this bit of his game as he did it in dangerous areas. He looks a good buy and will improve us. Jack Cork I feel does so less and has been great for us. Sure he's had the occasional dip in form but I wouldn't be writing him off yet.

Re: Jack Cork
That’s true. And whilst I’m a big fan of Brownhills tenacity and positivity with the ball, he has given the ball away numerous times in dangerous areas where you will be punished at this level.bodge wrote: ↑Thu Jul 09, 2020 5:32 pmBrownhill has made a really encouraging start to life in the PL, but that's exactly what it is, a start. Re: Jack Cork
There are many more experienced players guilty of that than just Brownhill
He is plying his trade at the top table now ... so I am sure we can forgive the occasional error.
Cracking player coming on in leaps and bounds

Glad they are all Clarets!
Re: Jack Cork
I think Jack Cork has been absolutely fabulous this season and I’m gutted we’ve lost him to injury, hopefully he’s back for the start of the new season. I thought he was poor during the first half of the 18/19 season but was good again in the second half of that season. He was outstanding in the 17/18 season. He’s also been in the PL since the summer of 2012.
So I agree with the post stating that if Brownhill wants to establish himself in this league, he should be looking to Jack Cork as someone to emulate. He’s made a terrific start and I really like him.
For now though, Jack Cork is my man unless his form tails off.

Re: Jack Cork
Unless we bring anyone else in, it will be Brownhill in Hendrick's previous role on the right and Cork and Westwood back in the middle. That should work well enough with Dwight and Charlie Taylor providing the bulk of the crosses from the left.

Re: Jack Cork
Still think Cork has plenty to offer but not sure he can play a full season at his age in a 4-4-2. Hell of a lot of work to get through so it's great to have Brownhill to slot in. Early days but I like the look of him in the middle more than Hendrick. SD never really had confidence in Hendrick in that position.

I sincerely hope we don't play Brownhill on the right. I want us to sign another right winger and keep him in the centre. He, like Hendrick is clearly not a natural wide man.

Re: Jack Cork
I wish he’d stop doing that switch ball across the back line where he sort of bends it around their center forward. Never seems to screw it up but gives me heart failure every time.
