Dogs
Anyone got one with odd personality traits? We seem to attract odd ones. We have one who loves to sit on the garden path in the rain and dig in the garden but hates going for a walk in it. The other one quite literally has a fetish for trucks. She goes nuts when the rubbish/recycle bin truck comes around. Even the milkman in his float gets the treatment. They all find it funny but it's a task when walking in the rain as per this morning. One doesn't want to walk and the other is chasing literally anything that has an engine!''

Re: Dogs
we have a doberman, if we let him out for a dump it can take ages.
he starts by walking the full length of the front path and walking back, he then reduces the distance but continues darting left then right.
eventually he readies himself, ideally getting some overhanging leaves on his head. the final moments resemble a golfer at the tee, shifting his weight side to side until the deed is done. I counted 133 left /right actions before he was all set once.
he's another not keen on rain too. virtually sticks a paw out of the door sometimes to check the weather. slight drizzle usually means a swift return to the warmth of his bed.

Re: Dogs
Look after them. There are far too many being stolen both for fighting and just to sell on.
Re: Dogs
We had a dog that would chase anyone on a motorbike.
So we had to take the bike off him.

Very old joke. Woodbine was a common cigarette brand
"My dog is so lazy I have called him Woodbine-I have to take him out for a drag."
To drag on a fag was to have a smoke
"Alternatively my dog had no legs, I call him Woodbine because I have to take him out for a drag."

Hobo looks like he's peeking through the crack at the side of the gate and sniffing the breeze.

Re: Dogs
Anyone know anyone that is selling puppies at normal prices? Ideally a cavalier King Charles spaniel.
Since lockdown, the prices have gone through the roof! I’m not paying £2500 to £3000 for a dog that should at the most be around £1000.
Cavapoo, Cockapoo (mongrels) now at around £3500!! I’m sure there will be a lot of unwanted dogs around when things get back to normal.

It's barking, pardon the pun, whilst the puppies are shifting though why reduce the prices. The puppies are obviously selling somebody's buying them.DCWat wrote: ↑Thu Jul 16, 2020 3:58 pmAnyone know anyone that is selling puppies at normal prices? Ideally a cavalier King Charles spaniel.

Re: Dogs
I’ve spoken with a few KC breeders and each has advised that they’re not breeding any puppies for sale until the current situation is over.Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Thu Jul 16, 2020 4:11 pmIt's barking, pardon the pun, whilst the puppies are shifting though why reduce the prices. They’ve advised me not to pay the current prices for puppies that may well not be health checked etc.
Think I might get a rescue to start with and get the cavalier towards the end of the year.
Re: Dogs
Mine has to get involved with everything we do, even if its paper stripping, gardening, or painting....
And he also likes licking my bare feet, but doesn't lick any of the other family members.
I dont often wear footwear/socks so it happens quite a lot

Re: Dogs
My previous dog, a Weimaraner, used to suck his foot before going to sleep.
Our Labrador now only has the affliction that he is thick as a post. I've seen stupid dogs but ours is seriously thick.

Re: Dogs
Go to the RSPCA rescue centre at Huncoat where my eldest daughter works. They always have a decent selection of dogs that need rehoming. Both my dogs are rescue dogs and I wouldn't dream of having anything else.
Pendle Dogs In Need are also a superb local charity doing great work in rehoming dogs

Yes! All our pets are rescue. Two dogs and two cats. Give them a second chance in life.THEWELLERNUT70 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 18, 2020 7:59 amGo to the RSPCA rescue centre at Huncoat where my eldest daughter works. This is Coco. Was rescued from a puppy farm a couple of months ago. Spent 11 years living in a cage. She’s not quite sure about the big outdoors. But she loves her jumper!!

Re: Dogs
Our newest addition is a Pekingnese/Pomeranian cross so only tiny. Rescued from a farm. She'd been tied up outside on a chain and abused for chasing chickens. She's still nervous with loud noises and was very timid when we got her but she has come on leaps and bounds and as I say. She chases and barks at anything that moves.RammyClaret61 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 18, 2020 11:30 amThis is Coco. Was rescued from a puppy farm a couple of months ago. Spent 11 years living in a cage. Re: Dogs
She was brought into the Mrs grooming salon buy the owner of a dog rescue charity With 3 others, all in a very poor condition. She’s to old to breed now so was put in a cage with the other “non earning” dogs. She came in covered in mud and poo. The other 3 Had homes to go to. We said we’d look after her till they found a home. It only took a day and we knew she was staying. The improvement in her as been tremendous. But she still as issues with eating while being watched. She sneaks off with food to hide it. She’s getting a personality though.

My Springer Spaniel is now fast asleep on my knee as I type this after a big walk in the rain.
