Does make you wonder what Garlick's plan is for the club. All SD's thrift and hard work possibly destroyed in one transfer window
Still, like the day he took sole charge, to make as much money as possible from us.
He looks set to double his worth from the club he "loves and supports more than most" ( other fans words on him )

Very, very clever.

Quite obvious the plan, from continuing to post profits year on year and telling everyone who will listen what a great business the club has and the sound footing it is on etc
You didn't need a GCSE in business to see the end game for Garlick, why do you think he got so interested when the times got good, then went further to get sole ownership???

Any less than 3 signings today and it's a disaster.

Tbf, you’d expect at least Sean, Rigg and Garlick to have a mobile phone...

Mike Rigg created group “BFC summer transfer window 2020”

Mike Rigg added “Mike Garlick”

Mike Rigg added “Sean Dyche”

Hi everyone, thought I’d set this group up to discuss our summer transfer business.

So you want 3 signings, does it matter who they are, or in what position? Or just anybody!

Think you might be about 3 out unless there is a huge change today in the club

Made me chuckle, well done sir , I'm passing it on.

Would be great if someone could actually recreate that in a picture using their contacts but changing the names in their contacts.

Chance to vote "hit or miss" on the BBC feed on Burnley's transfer window.

https://www.bbc.com/sport/live/football/54364762

At the time of looking, it has 201 upvotes and 3,165 downvotes

Edit - That poll has been followed by a quote from non other than Tony Scholes! :)

You wouldn't have thought the window had even opened at Burnley. We've done no more than bring in a third choice goalkeeper and central midfielder Dale Stephens who was signed from Brighton for around a million.

That doesn't even cover the players who have left and is despite the manager's constant pleas for new players.

Hope and expectation is at two different levels. We hopes, at minimum, to see a central defender, a young right-back and a wide player, preferably to play on the right

That, I would think, is the bare minimum for most supporters. The expectation is that nothing is going to happen and that seems to be Sean Dyche's view right now.

*Multiple edits as I update the poll results*
You'd have thought it might have got a mention that we've held on to Tarks and Pope and McNeil. That's always a great outcome when the window has closed and the club's "most valuable players" are still with us.

I'm also interested, other than Jeff Hendrick, who was offered a new contract but chose to leave, did anyone think Sean Dyche wanted Joe Hart or Arron Lennon to stay beyond the end of last season?

Also, is there any positive in resolving the Ben Gibson situation?

Of course, it's possible CT had those thoughts in mind, but they were cut in the edit that was published.

The white flag was raised by Garlick before the season started. No longer fit to be a Premier League chairman and he knows it in my opinion. I’m sure the rift, negativity and lack of strengthening is filtering through to the team. Having said all this I think the team will look a a whole load better with Ben Mee in it as he leads by example ( it will be like a new signing !).

I wish, along with lots of others on here that I could feel smug about our warnings and grumblings over the last 3 to 4 windows. There has been a lot of delusional people who have mocked our stance and defended the club when even by Burnley standards, we have come way below what is required during the last few transfer windows and that severe under-investment is now coming home to roost, unfortunately... It doesn't give me any pleasure to say we told you so, but we told you so!

Leeds spending yet another 17 million.

Not difficult this game when you throw 100 million like it's nothing.

Not that such arbitrary polls mean much but I imagine it's by far the most unpopular of transfer windows polled. Absolutely abysmal but I don't think anyone is remotely surprised. I'm half tempted to switch my downvote to an upvote as I almost feel sorry for them now. Almost.

Thing is if you take out the “big six” plus Leicester and Wolves, 25% of the remaining clubs will fail.

Only just turned over to check the "11 o'clock news"

Had smooth FM kn for the first few hours of the day.

Its currently just going over the United debacle from yesterday.

There's lots of premier league news, potential transfers etc, so you never know we might get a mention.

I get your pov when a team gets to a point of spending big. But clubs that come up are sometimes 5/6/7 windows behind teams that have already built up a squad to stay up.

I thought Fulhams £100m the other year was pretty acceptable in terms of spending, yea the failed as they went down. But they were in the group along with Us, Bournemouth etc who’d spent that sort of money assembling our squad of players to survive.

Villa just did about stayed up last season and now they can try and start to kick on.

Yeah Fulham did make me laugh when they spent all that and went down. They deserved it IMO.

I guess I'm perhaps old fashioned in that a club shouldn't need to spend that sort of money. They should use their brain and manage the club to such a degree that they are successful, without throwing money at the wall and hoping some of it sticks, so to speak.

I don't think clubs should be allowed to go into debt. They spend what they earn and that's it.

It's why I respect what Burnley do. Sure, we as fans would love us to spend a bit more, but if we don't have it, we can't spend it. Debt-free, no sugar daddy to take us to the sweet shop and spend what we like.

Agree that most fans did not want Lennon and Hart. I always thought Lennon could do a job as wing back but guessing SD didn’t as we would have seen him there at some point given the problems we had in that position. As you say the ship had sailed on Gibson a long time ago.

But the frustration is more about the squad - even last year we were always a couple of injuries away from trouble if this happened to one of our centre backs or someone like Dwight who amazingly played in nearly every game.

This year those injuries have materialised and you combine that with the likes of Dwight starting the season poorly and we are down to the bare bones. Whenever you are in a position that you are having to start players who are playing badly / low on confidence and you have zero on the bench then you are in trouble and we are.

Of course we have been through these bad spells before and Dyche and the players have turned it round and they can do this again.

But for me it feels different this year - the players are that bit older...slower....more prone to injury. The other teams seem to have got stronger / spent lots of money and just looking at the likes of Leeds, Villa, Everton and even Brighton they look like they could run us into the ground with the pace and intensity (and quality) they have. At some point the organisation and fight can only take you so far - and to me it looks like we have reached that point.

All that said I wouldn’t want any other manager in charge of Burnley trying to prove everyone wrong.

That is a noble approach and one where the premier league will eventually outgrow us, most realistic people accept that will happen.

However, what people cant accept, and its understandable, is this we have spent as much this window than the window 20 years ago when we signed Ian Moore.

But how much we have spent seems to be what we can spend. If you look at the finances, we make less than £5 million a year. What is it, £87 million in wages? It is what it is, and we can only spend £20-30 million if we sell for a profit.

I can understand why fans are annoyed that we aren't spending more, but we'd need to go into debt to do that.

It looks to me like 95% of fans don't know how little we make and think we have £200 million in the attic gathering dust.

You look on social media and people treat it like Football Manager where they can spend £20 million and then go and have their dinner.

Think it is of a case of the old saying Frank: any fool can spend someone else’s (or the clubs) money.

Leeds spending yet another 17 million.

Not difficult this game when you throw 100 million like it's nothing.
True. I’m not sure I’d want us to operate in that way, even if we had a new investor though.

Shocked at the level of spending at some clubs this window and how they find these transactions.

Only a bit more than what we spent on Gibson then. Maybe Garlick doesn't want to give Dyche that sort of money for someone to sit on the bench for 12 months?

Not sure we spent £100 million on Gibson.

And let's not get into the "I can see the future" debate that some posters come out with.

Not that such arbitrary polls mean much but I imagine it's by far the most unpopular of transfer windows polled. Absolutely abysmal but I don't think anyone is remotely surprised. I'm half tempted to switch my downvote to an upvote as I almost feel sorry for them now. Almost.
Whilst adding to this (you know which way I voted don't you!), I couldn't help but notice that Man City fans appear to be equally distraught with their window!!!!! Unbelievable Jeff!

Simplistically yes, but transfer finances aren't as simplistic as that.

I agree with you though, most people don't have a clue about our accounts.

That is a noble approach and one where the premier league will eventually outgrow us, most realistic people accept that will happen.

However, what people cant accept, and its understandable, is this we have spent as much this window than the window 20 years ago when we signed Ian Moore.
There will always be silly parallel statistics like this that fans can come up with - if it helps them vent their frustration so be it but let’s not pretend for one minute it’s anything other than a meaningless comparison.

A more meaningful one might be that our total wage bill when we signed Ian Moore is probably not a million miles away from what we are paying one of our players at the club now.

Looking at single transfer windows in isolation without any context as to what is happening at our club internally and more importantly what is happening externally is just a waste of time.

As fans every single one of us want us to spend more money in this transfer window - it’s just some fans seem to have a better understanding of why we might not be and others will always want to make comparisons to other clubs or previous windows.
