Every season the transfer topic thread starts with people trying to limit it to serious rumours only with links. It soon descends into chaos with no one behaving according to the rules of the game. Very similar to the nation's response to Covid 19. Hopeless.

I'm as guilty as anyone for responding on here but I get your point. Especially as there are threads for individual players linked elsewhere.welsbyswife wrote: ↑Sun Aug 02, 2020 10:08 pmEvery season the transfer topic thread starts with people trying to limit it to serious rumours only with links. Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS SUMMER 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
The Brownhill deal was so neat and straightforward - an agreement between two honest English clubs. The players both wanted the moves, the fees were right and everything fell sweetly into place.
Sadly this was a one off and things don’t happen like this with other clubs. Fog and smokescreens, agents creating fake news, foreign chairmen/managers involved, media stoking the pot, greedy players/agents/owners etc. etc.
There are some small signs that things are starting to change with footballers recognising that they need to be seen on the pitch to further their careers. Some are choosing life abroad and some are seeing a route to the top via the smaller clubs.
What really needs to change is to stop the trawling of promising talent, by clubs such as Chelsea, to be traded as a commodity. Won’t happen of course because the clubs are bigger than the football authorities.

As I understand, contracts have clauses that impact players financially if they hand in transfer requests (e.g. they may not be paid any of this year’s performance bonus, lose loyalty bonus, or %’s of future transfer fees they may have been due.

Was the Brownhill deal not aided by them needing the money?
There will be many more decent players on the market for the same reason.

I don't know, but I'd imagine their contracts are made up of appearance bonus' and a team final position bonus, for which clearly he wouldn't benefit from the former but would the latter.ZizkovClaret wrote: ↑Mon Aug 03, 2020 11:15 amI'd bloody hope Gibson gets little or no bonus from this season, bloody hell

Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS SUMMER 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
Very likely. At one stage of my working career I was a freelance Project Manager, specialising in construction contracts which were in trouble. On one where the underlying problem/fault had been with the original in-house Project Manager (allegedly incompetent/bone-idle and with an increasing taste for the drink) he was sacked by the Company; I never met the guy, so couldn't comment on the drinking, but he'd certainly been incompetent and the job was almost 3 months behind programme, with money being poured down the drain when I came onboard. I was on the project for a bit over five months during which we managed to turn things around, only finishing about three weeks late and even making a few quid profit. The original Manager however, made a claim for 'unfair dismissal' and though he lost the claim, the Employment Tribunal did find in his favour with regard to the completion bonus, that'd been included his contract. The Tribunal held that his 'having failed to contribute to, indeed having likely impaired' the projects profitability and completion was an irrelevance; the project had ultimately been profitable and he was therefore entitled to the profit-share element of the bonus.

King will be paid way more than we pay.
Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS SUMMER 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
I like the link with the Oxford lad. It's been obvious for some time that we can no longer go after the best Championship players as their prices have skyrocketed over the last few years, so looking a level below that for players with the potential to step up is the right way to go. They can come in, learn the style from within the group and then hopefully step up when a gap in the eleven opens up due to injury, loss of form or the sale of a player.
Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS SUMMER 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
They would need a five year contract to get up to speed from Division One

Our last 4 permanent signings, and 7 of our last 8, have - I think - been from Championship clubs.
All have been in the last two seasons. 4 signings a season.

Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS SUMMER 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
I wouldn't say no to Cameron Brannagan, he fits the younger profile we should be looking at, and he came through Liverpool's youth system so he must have something about him, also he's entering the last year of his contract, so he shouldn't set us back too heavily, i'm not certain we can't afford the better Championship talent, but if we can pick a bargain or two up then all the better, Leeds are scouting Brannagan so we'll have to move sharpish if we want him.ksrclaret wrote: ↑Mon Aug 03, 2020 6:20 pmI like the link with the Oxford lad. Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS SUMMER 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
Do we really need another CM? I totally agree he looks the part but i think we have priorities elsewhere on the pitch that we need to spend what ever money Dyche has been given. For me file in the nice to have category who would probably spend the season on the bench.

I think CM is one of our priority signings right now.
We currently have two fit CMs with cork injured.
Would be a cheap signing with low risk

Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS SUMMER 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
Exactly! we might get lucky and Brownhill, Cork & Westwood might be injury free all season, but that's taking a big gamble, and even if this lad from Oxford doesn't play much next season, both Cork & Westwood are ooc in 2021, so it wouldn't do us any harm in getting potential replacements in ASAP, and we need young legs in the middle of the park, Brownhill looks a decent addition, but if we can pick up Brannagan for a nominal fee then why not get him in.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 03, 2020 9:38 pmI think CM is one of our priority signings right now.

Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS SUMMER 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
We 100% need another central midfield player . I agree this could be a low risk signing if we did capture Brannagan , but could we perhaps push for a starter in this position? I think we will see Brownhill on the right when all are fit , despite his performances since Cork got injured . So our need for another midfielder is all the more .
Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS SUMMER 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
Maybe if we are interested, a good opinion of the club from Dan Agyei, if he has one, would help us

Not a Burnley link but looks like Hendrick is off to villa or Newcastle.

Do think Villa, Leeds, Newcastle or Celtic are most likely destinations. Don’t think playing time is his or his agents primary motivation or he’d have stayed at the club where his manager loved him.

Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS SUMMER 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
I'd agree we need another midfielder. Be it a box to box, defensive (my preference) or a creative one. We have a capable midfield but we are lacking a Barton/Kante type player. Someone who can put their foot on the ball, drive forward, read the game, sweep up those breaks more efficiently, sweep up our mistakes, play the simple but effective ball. It also allows us more options in midfield. I have never been a fan of having players who know their place is a dead cert. They need their places to be challenged so they're hungry to get into the starting XI.Hedontplayforyou wrote: ↑Mon Aug 03, 2020 9:50 pmWe 100% need another central midfield player . Brownhill is no right winger. I'd be and I suspect he'd be a little underwhelmed if he is pushed out right. If we're starting 2020/21 with Bardsley/Lowton and Brownhill on the right we're going to be very predictable and very one sided again.
Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS SUMMER 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
Presuming from the feel for a need of a bench warming CM behind Cork Westwood and Brownhill, we are thinking that Benson is still not ready to fulfil that position, and we would rather opt for the lad from Oxford?

I think that was made abundantly clear in the last 8 games of the season that none of the youth players apart from maybe Thompson or Richardson are even remotely close to the starting eleven.

Brannagan has potential to step up. He's a few steps ahead of the likes of Benson. He has Premier League, League Cup and Europa League experience with Liverpool and almost 100 games league experience with Fleetwood and Oxford. Klopp reluctantly let him go because the lad wanted first team opportunities. Not easy to cement a first team place at the likes of Liverpool so he made a career choice.
Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS SUMMER 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
Although he's not yet played many games I thought Brownhill's best performance was at Palace where he nullified Zaha and still contributed in going forward
I see him wide right putting in good performances like Hendrick/Arfield/JBG
We need to have a much stronger presence in CM (in terms of height, strength in tackle and ability to control the ball)
As good as Westwood and Cork have been they don't win the hard battles and get caught in possession far too often. They also lack the pace needed in today's type of game.
A starting CM would be the first buy for me

Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS SUMMER 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
Brownhill is a CM. He could do you a job on the right, but is far more effective in the middle.
Dwight is a LW, who could do you a job in the middle, but is far more effective whipping those crosses in from the left.
I'm happy for Brownhill to start in CM, he gets better all the time. Jack should be the back up. We have no need for a RW, unless JBG and Brady are going to have another injury prone season. So unless we get a younger version for the future it would be a waste of money.
A new, younger RB, and a replacement for Gibson is all we need. And unless we sell someone, it's all we can realistically afford.
