Mississipi Burning, Angel Heart, Bugsy Malone, The Cinzano Ads. He was one of the great British film makers.

I've not seen that one for a long time, forget he did that, the great thing about Parker was his versatility, that's what made him unique, he could turn his hand to many different genres. So everybody can probably find something in his catalogue that they like.

Directed The Evacuees in 1974............an incredibly powerful film, an early version of schindlers list.....dare I say it I was at Rossall school with a fab guy, Paul Westerman who left school I think aged 16 and played a major role in that film as a Jewish evacuee.....he’s now a director in his own right in America ......haven’t seem his since school, but I bet he’d have taken a huge amount of his development from Sir AP....

Some people really do influence their genre.......

Sadly I’ve influenced sod all!!!

Brilliant but disturbing film. One of those I've avoided seeing again!

I understand that the main character, whose real life experiences the film was based on , didn’t like the final cut and claimed it wasn't accurate.

I'm not sure Parker had any say in how the screenplay was written though.

RIP Alan Parker.

Agree ^^^

Angel Heart runs Midnight Express close for his best.

Did not know he did The Cinzano Ads ( are these the Joan Collins & Leonard Rossiter ones? )

Directed The Wall as well, one of my faves. Liked some serious, darker subject matter but turned in some comedy as well. RIP.

The screenplay for the Evacuees was written by Jack Rosenthal who himself was evacuated to Colne during the war. He went on to marry Maureen Lipman who was in the Evacuees. Great TV film.
