Well done Glentoran
Through to the 1st round of EL qualifying, and their reward is a short trip to Motherwell, so one British side is guaranteed a 2nd round berth.
Coleraine are still scoreless, and Barry Town have crashed out 5-1 in the Faroe Islands, so they miss out on a trip to Aberdeen.
Meanwhile Connah's Quay Nomads and Dundalk both bowed out of the CL last night, both do have the consolation of the EL to fall back on however.

Coleraine scored in the final minute to squeeze through as well. a good night for Irish football in general, and the further their teams can go, the more likely their co-efficient will increase, and it should become easier for their clubs to get through the early rounds in future seasons.

Glentoran will always retain a special place in the heart of any Burnley fan.
Grateful thanks for Jimmy Mac and Alex Elder and a combined total of 827 appearances in a Claret shirt.
Best of luck for a successful Europa League campaign.

Re: Well done Glentoran
Always had a soft spot for Glentoran. Finally got there for the first time when we played them in 2008. So many links between the two clubs, including the three players mentioned on this thread. The two clubs were even both formed in 1882.

Re: Well done Glentoran
Looks like an All Island Irish league will be coming soon. 20 of 22 senior teams from both sides of the border voted for taking it forward.

If they can keep sectarianism off the terraces should be a big step forward for football in Ireland.

I read about that idea a while ago. Was it initially rejected?huw.Y.WattfromWare wrote: βThu Aug 20, 2020 10:42 pmLooks like an All Island Irish league will be coming soon. 20 of 22 senior teams from both sides of the border voted for taking it forward.

Re: Well done Glentoran
Well to my admittedly limited knowledge, they don't appear to have sectarian problems in some of the other sports which involve All Ireland teams, such as hockey, hurling and rugby to name but 3, however football unfortunately seems to attract all the idiots in society, but if this leads to perhaps more full time clubs, and a better standard in the game it can surely only be a good move, and it might also mean that they have more chance of holding on to their better players instead of losing them to the English and Scottish leagues.huw.Y.WattfromWare wrote: βThu Aug 20, 2020 10:42 pmLooks like an All Island Irish league will be coming soon. 20 of 22 senior teams from both sides of the border voted for taking it forward.

I only came across the story recently but whilst searching for the link I did spot one from 2019 mentioning rejection. Unfortunately I canβt find it on a new search.ClaretTony wrote: βThu Aug 20, 2020 10:59 pmI read about that idea a while ago. Was it initially rejected?

Still talking really but Cliftonville are dead against it , which will come as a shock .
This still could happen but we need to see the end of covid .
For me hell sure why not .

Hi T., how are your other team recovering from the nightmare of the Saudi takeover? Hard to find any current info.

Re: Well done Glentoran
Goodness i could write a book about the goings on at the Club .
In a nutshell really this is how it panned out with the Saudi's .
Now some young Saudi was at Uni here in Galway then got talking to a Galway United Football fan in the canteen then it grew legs . The Young Saudi said " hey my dad wants to buy a football team " fast forward a month then the Co Op voted for him to take over , now it only turned up he wasnt an oil prince just a regular Joe .
We were just about joke shop football when it got out .
