If Tarks release clause is met on deadline day ?
If Tarks release clause is met on deadline day ?
Have we no choice to the terms of the clause but to let him go ? Have we any legal way to say "we have no time to find/sign a replacement" or will the club knowing this could easily happen have a plan Z to combat this ?

It would take a few hours in between formally lodging the bid to actually get a deal done I’d imagine. That would give us time to get the replacement in.

I would very much doubt whether a clause would be met on deadline day. I doubt that clubs would be so naive to allow that to happen. Much more likely that any player with a clause will have a date by which it has to be triggered.

I hear the clause only applies to Man U, City and Liverpool?
If true then we can reject any offer.

So there's no panic, as those 3 won't be coming in for him.
Re: If Tarks release clause is met on deadline day ?
I have it on good authority that the club fax machine will be fully oiled, dusted down and fully loaded with paper in this eventuality on deadline day.

It really wouldn't surprise me if West Ham came back in with an improved bid for him this week after their dismal show against Newcastle. Let's hope not.

If I were Leicester, I would bide their time and offer £40m on deadline day. It would mean they get their man and we don’t have time to get a replacement.

Re: If Tarks release clause is met on deadline day ?
That reduces their chances of getting him, though. It's a £50 million release fee which seems to only apply if Liverpool or the Manchester clubs come knocking.LoveCurryPies wrote: ↑Mon Sep 14, 2020 5:20 pmIf I were Leicester, I would bide their time and offer £40m on deadline day. Re: If Tarks release clause is met on deadline day ?
The transfer window isn't at the normal time, so if there was a cut off date I would have thought we've gone past that date. It's what cocked up Messi being able to leave for free, he thought the date would be extended, due to the extended season, but legally it stayed as the date on the contract, which was some date in June.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Mon Sep 14, 2020 11:42 amI would very much doubt whether a clause would be met on deadline day. But Tony is on about deadline day. There's still a deadline day, and it's unlikely teams will come in at the last second.Grumps wrote: ↑Mon Sep 14, 2020 5:23 pmThe transfer window isn't at the normal time, so if there was a cut off date I would have thought we've gone past that date. Re: If Tarks release clause is met on deadline day ?
I kind of get where you're going with it but he's still under contract with a £50m clause apparently regardless of date and I really can't see Rodgers screwing over Dyche if it did come to that. They're very close friends from their Watford days.Grumps wrote: ↑Mon Sep 14, 2020 5:23 pmThe transfer window isn't at the normal time, so if there was a cut off date I would have thought we've gone past that date. Re: If Tarks release clause is met on deadline day ?
its a wierd clause to me - is that the player (tarks) choosing just those 3 clubs for a release clause ? not good if west ham or leicester paid £35-40 million for a player that really in a ideal world only wants to progress to 3 better clubs than his current one ?? and theirs are not one of them.
He can't support all 3 clubs ? so a strange one.
SD is very good at his job but cant see him having a release clause naming just certain teams ?

Re: If Tarks release clause is met on deadline day ?
Not deadline day. I was suggesting that players who have release clauses in their contracts then the clubs will have a cut off date when they can be activated some time before deadline day. No club is going to allow an 11th hour bid for a player like that.FactualFrank wrote: ↑Mon Sep 14, 2020 5:28 pmBut Tony is on about deadline day. Go back a year and Jay Rod's clause at West Brom. Clubs had up to a set date to activate it.
Re: If Tarks release clause is met on deadline day ?
Did you miss the bit in his post about cut off dates? Which is what I was talking about. If his contract says bid has to be made, say by 10th June, we will have gone past that date.FactualFrank wrote: ↑Mon Sep 14, 2020 5:28 pmBut Tony is on about deadline day. Re: If Tarks release clause is met on deadline day ?
Yeah, looks like I read about deadline day and thought he was on about people coming in with bids at the very last minute and I can't see us selling a main player then.
But it will take a £50 million offer for Tarky and apparently only applies to 3 clubs.
Re: If Tarks release clause is met on deadline day ?
Anyone who knows what they're doing wouldn't write a contractual clause like that.
Re: If Tarks release clause is met on deadline day ?
Watching Leicester play yesterday he would be a great addition to their squad.
Re: If Tarks release clause is met on deadline day ?
Those are the three clubs probably in a financial position locally capable of launching a £50 million bid based on their spending power, which is one of the main reasons he wanted to return to the NW. To dissuade them somewhat, we plonked a £50 million clause on the NW teams. Which is something Tarkowski would have agreed with upon signing, which points to where his intentions lie. What people are missing is he'll have had to sign off on that clause. He's not wanting to force a move to West Ham. He's hoping he can attract more local big hitters.kenyon6923 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 14, 2020 5:36 pmits a wierd clause to me - is that the player (tarks) choosing just those 3 clubs for a release clause ? not good if west ham or leicester paid £35-40 million for a player that really in a ideal world only wants to progress to 3 better clubs than his current one ?? and theirs are not one of them.

The bonkers thing is - Liverpool looked like they could do with him! To let a side like Leeds to score 3 goals with their 3 attempts is pretty shocking. Him and VVD would be a spot on pairing.BenWickes wrote: ↑Mon Sep 14, 2020 5:48 pmThose are the three clubs probably in a financial position locally capable of launching a £50 million bid based on their spending power, which is one of the main reasons he wanted to return to the NW. I'd have to disagree there, Frank, IMO they are too similar.FactualFrank wrote: ↑Mon Sep 14, 2020 5:50 pmThe bonkers thing is - Liverpool looked like they could do with him! To let a side like Leeds to score 3 goals with their 3 attempts is pretty shocking. Him and VVD would be a spot on pairing.
Also, has JT really put in a transfer request?

I don't think it matters if 2 central defenders are similar. They have their zone and they have the same job.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Mon Sep 14, 2020 5:53 pmI'd have to disagree there, Frank, IMO they are too similar.

Who decides who the top 3 clubs are?
Re: If Tarks release clause is met on deadline day ?
Sort of money Everton would throw around aswell, but thankfully they have already spent a fair chunk.. and don't look interested in CB's/

Re: If Tarks release clause is met on deadline day ?
Someone needs to let Tarky (and Sean Dyche) know that we’re on the verge of a huge takeover and will be frequently competing for the top 6 thereafter.
Re: If Tarks release clause is met on deadline day ?
Didn't realise it was only North West clubs, I only saw top 3.. so I assumed it meant the top 3 in the PL, hence why I asked who decides that.
Re: If Tarks release clause is met on deadline day ?
Leicester, Wolves or Everton would be realistic next moves for him I think. Can't see the likes of City, Liverpool or United being interested.

Re: If Tarks release clause is met on deadline day ?
Let's start by saying that I know absolutely nothing about James Tarkowski's contract.
**************
If what is reported above - £50m City, MUtd and Lpool - is accurate, then it suggests negotiations went something like this: JT (his agent), I think I'm worth more money, I'll sign a new contract to stay at Burnley; Club (MG), yes, OK, but we'd like you to stay and we reserve the right to reject all approaches during the contract period; JT, but what if Lpool or City or ManU come in for me? Sean Dyche, I think we need to motivate JT. It would be to our credit if Lpool/City/Manu are his next club - so long as they pay "a fair fee." Club, OK, we will agree a release clause at £50m for any one of those 3 clubs. There will be no release clause for any other clubs. How does that work for you, JT? And, one last thing, the release clause can only be triggered when there is more than 7 days to the end of the relevant transfer window. We need to make sure that we've time to sign a replacement, if we choose to do so.
Club and JT - that's a deal. SD, great deal JT. Now let's get back to the training ground and see if we can get you performing at a level that Lpool/City/ManU will be keen to pay £50m for you. I know you can do it. Of course, it would need you to play a big part in the club achieving "top 10" finishes. And, don't forget I'm on a big bonus every season to keep the club in the Premier League. I'm counting on you and the rest of the squad to make sure I get my bonus.
**************
Just some thoughts. Does any of the above help to make sense of Tark's "release clause?"

Re: If Tarks release clause is met on deadline day ?
Release clauses in this day and age aren't really needed, players have most of the power. If JT decided he wanted to leave (say he decided he wanted to leave for Leicester and they had a bid rejected) I'm pretty sure we wouldn't have many options than to sell. If JT approached the club and handed in a transfer request we would have to look at moving him on.
Countless and I mean countless players have forced their way out of clubs the past 10/12 years. Refuse to play, run down their contract.. go awol, cause trouble in the dressing room etc.
I know it comes down to how 'professional' a player is like a Tyrone Mears vs Graham Alexander.. but 9 times out of 10 the player gets what he wants. Nothing like it used to be, when clubs had the power and not players.

think he would have a great chance of making a centre half at arsenal or spurs nothing there currently would scare me if I was JT but if he does not want London then fair enough - plus those teams would struggle with 50m - spurs won't spend it with stadium debt a massive worry and arsenal could but are very careful with the purse strings.

whats JT agents thinking then ?
why is he not telling west ham politely your wasting your time the lad does not want to move south ?
is he hoping the "clause teams" come in on the back of west hams ?
is he hoping burnley relent and bring the asking price down ?
