Vivary Way
Thought this may be worth sharing.
Major £1 million works to improve Vivary Way are due to start this Monday!
This long awaited programme of work being undertaken by Lancashire County Council is aimed at boosting safety and reduce congestion from the end of the M65 all along Vivary Way and North Valley Road. They have planned the work to take into account important and busy the route is with major tasks involving lane closures due to be carried out overnight to minimise disruption.
What the work will deliver is:
- upgrading traffic signals that respond to traffic levels
- wider junctions, including at the Plumbing Centre roundabout
- changing lane allocations… this will including bollards to stop people cutting in from the right hand lane at the junction with Barrowford Road
- easier-to-follow signs on the approach to junctions to help drivers know which lane will get them where they want to go.
Work will be done in four phases over six months. The first phase starting on Monday (21 September) is expected to take around six weeks.
The funding is coming from the Department for Transport's National Productivity Infrastructure Fund, which is boosting economic growth by supporting measures to ease congestion and improve journey times.
Clearly, works to a major road like Vivary Way will cause some disruption, which I hope can be managed. However, this should significantly improve the way traffic flows on the road and cut down the time spent stuck in traffic.
Many thanks for local Conservative County Cllr Joe Cooney on his efforts in pushing for this.
I’m continuing to speak to Highways England about their work looking into more ambitious projects to improve trans-Pennine road connections between the M65 and Yorkshire, and continue to support reinstating the Colne-Skipton line which would also help reduce congestion on our roads. See less

I remember as a kid that the houses in Winewall had planning blight because the planned route of a trans pennine motorway cut through the south valley of Colne. Became quite hippyfied as a result of the cheap prices. I've seen plans of the proposed scheme. Would have cut a massive scar through some lovely countryside.

Can't see that million pounds making much difference to be honest looking at the list of what they are planning to do.

I go up the right hand side, if there’s a gap I go into it, I don’t cut anybody up at all. If there isn’t a gap I turn right and go round.
If there are bollards up won’t that hinder emergency services getting through?

They’ll just go on the other carriageway and cut acrossPaintYorkClaretnBlue wrote: ↑Fri Sep 18, 2020 9:32 pmI go up the right hand side, if there’s a gap I go into it, I don’t cut anybody up at all. If there isn’t a gap I turn right and go round.

Re: Vivary Way
Down the right lane and cutting in at the junction. That has to be open for the traffic to flow at the 4 way junction and use the other carriageway if needs be to get through if it’s busy

I don’t even know the area so have no idea why I’m reading this. But do you mean that to avoid the queue to take the first exit you take the right hand lane all the way around the roundabout in order to take the first exit? If so there’s a roundabout near to me where some selfish idiots do this.PaintYorkClaretnBlue wrote: ↑Fri Sep 18, 2020 9:32 pmI go up the right hand side, if there’s a gap I go into it, I don’t cut anybody up at all. Re: Vivary Way
It covers 4 phases.......I'm guessing that Million will all go on phase 1 inclusive of drinks and sandwiches. The scheme will then be abandoned due to covid.welsbyswife wrote: ↑Fri Sep 18, 2020 8:20 pmCan't see that million pounds making much difference to be honest looking at the list of what they are planning to do.
Re: Vivary Way
Only two routes through Colne - let's close them both at the same time. Craddock Road is closed for a fortnight for complete resurfacing. Joined up thinking - who needs it!
Actually it might not be too bad. Craddock Road closure mostly affects the traffic heading west. Vivary Way closure mostly affects the traffic heading east. As long as the snarl-ups don't get too extreme so they interfere with each other, it might scrape by.

Re: Vivary Way
People will still get through by altering ETA & ETD or choosing alternative M65 entrances & exits or times to allow extended deviations, even to extent of people jumping on mountain bikes & heading for the towpath by getting on at foulridge or langroyd off red lane, or even access onto the backroads admittedly resulting in a protracted journey.

We go that way every day and my Mrs is one of the wankers, I’m usually sat in the queue in the left hand lane and she flys past laughingconyoviejo wrote: ↑Fri Sep 18, 2020 7:13 pmNice to see Bollards being introduced for The stupid w@nkers who drive up the outside and then cut up people to get in the near side lane..

Re: Vivary Way
Its a crossroad/traffic light junction not a roundabout junction.Rileybobs wrote: ↑Fri Sep 18, 2020 10:57 pmI don’t even know the area so have no idea why I’m reading this. The left Lane is for turning left or straight ahead. The right is turn right only.
When the traffic is backed up, people fly down the right to the lights then push in to the left
Re: Vivary Way
As a very frequent user of this road, if this work is starting on Monday why have I not seen any pre-warning signs? Do I need to visit spec savers?

It takes a bit of skill and good timing to cut in at those lights and not for the faint hearted. Ive seen a few idiots in the left lane hit the accelerator hard to get right up the arse of the car in front to stop someone cutting in which in my view is dangerous and risks causing an accident
