Yep. He's gone.

Get Dawson in now sharpish as a stopgap this season and bring on Dunne as a player.

I don’t mind him being sold, just not to a ‘rival’ in the 10 or so teams battling relegation. If he goes to a top 7 team then do be it, but the Hammers!?

You have to take into account how much easier it is for the Board/Chairman to tough out the sale of a popular player when there are no fans on the games.

We might never know.

I don't see the point in over speculating but we can all have our own ideas as to what's going on.

Tarks is under contract though, that much is indisputable.

Haven’t read the whole thread so forgive me if I’m repeating something already said but, if West Ham keep coming back in for him surely they think he’s open to the move and there’s a chance they’ll land him? That’s what worries me more than anything! If arguably our best player wants to move to West Ham, who I and most other football fans would say is a sideways step, then what is going on at our club!?

Well if Dyche has lied to cover up Tarky being sold. There will be a lot on here turn against him, they still go on about Coyle lying 10 years ago.

Absolutely.

Strange times at the moment with Covid being a factor. If the club have been deceitful in any way over this I’m probably going to cancel season tickets (it’s not like we’re using them!) and not bother with new shirts (away one is great), and the likelyhood is that I won’t me alone.

As to whether we find out if lies have been told... if Tarkowski is still here this season and he plays as well as we know he can then I would trust the “Toegate” scenario.

If we believe the story about the toe, there are still questions to be asked as to why we had not brought in Gibson's replacement before now. If JT is being held back for transfer and we have had to start the season with Kev and Jimmy and no back up whatsover, then it is utter madness.

I can respect your opinion, the least you could do is respect mine. IMO, personally I dont like deceit of any kind, so if the club (including Dyche or Garlick) appear to have been deceitful in any way over Tarkowski I will reconsider my support, its that simple.

1) He might not have lied.

2) may be a “white lie”....ie it’s a stance / position agreed by the club which they believe is the right thing to do in protecting our interest right now. On the face of it that would seem a more sensible approach then telling other clubs that we have a very good player who wants to leave / is unhappy and come and get me on the cheap.

Everybody entitled to their own views as to whether this constitutes as deceiving fans etc but personally I think it’s an over reaction.....
.....as for comparing the situation to what Coyle did it’s nothing like it. Coyle was talking to Bolton for weeks / months arranging his exit behind the clubs back. He lied to fans, players and everyone at the club to benefit only himself.

it's not difficult to understand really its not. If it comes to light that I believe the club have been deceitful in regards to this situation I will consider withdrawing my support, which will include cancelling Season tickets for me and my family and not bothering with replica shirt purchases etc.

It may not come to that, sufficient explanations may change my mind.

Lets not forget that currently James Tarkowski remains a Burnley player and has a toe injury. I wish him a speedy recovery so that he can get back playing for us as soon as possible.

The issue will be if he doesn't play for us again, in which case I can conclude for myself that the toe injury is/was a lie, but we'll have to wait and see wont we...?

Long and Dunne are the back up. Assuming Tarks really is injured that gives us four central defenders with two currently injured.

How many do you think we need?

We need a minimum of 1 more who is experienced. If Tarkowski leaves then we will require 2 more.. minimum. Dunno/Long are emergency back up. The fact we have started the season with them as a pairing is verging on criminal.

My serious what?

Both Tarks and Mee being injured at the same time is an emergency. And you need to make your mind up, do you want experienced players or young players with potential?

Do you think we should be spending £10m+ on another Gibson who will sit on the bench all season when Tarks and Mee are in the team?

Of course if Tarks does go it's a different story and I'm sure his transfer fee will be used to get a replacement.

We need a minimum of 4 experienced cbs (with Long the 4th choice). This is what professional football clubs do, especially those with over £100m annual budgets.

As it happens Dunne has shown promise in his 2 appearances, but that is miles away from what we need right now. We just have to stay up this year. As things stand, if we do it will be Sean's biggest achievement by a very long way.

The lads fought hard last night, so we have a chance.

I’d feel extremely let down by the club too. It’s not how I think fans should be treated. And entirely unnecessary; we all know we’re a selling club and accept that. Just say he’s not selected whilst he’s the subject of transfer speculation and we’d all understand.

think the reason they won’t say that is because they know they should’ve bought the cover in earlier in the window to avoid this scenario. Even if it’s an injury, that is true though. It’s not as if Gibson leaving us has taken us by surprise.

Far from feeling stupid if I’m wrong though, I’ll be absolutely delighted!!

Just a realist.

Just call it as I see it, sometines positive , often negative, but also rarely wrong, so I'll stick to call it as how I see it as it's usually there or there abouts.

I prefer it that way than just constant blind hope, you get let down too much that way, and I'm too long in the tooth to fall for things over and over again.

I suspect Dunne is nowhere near as good as Tarks was when he stepped into Keane's boots but I do not know as I have no seen enough of him. I do however recall the carping about Tarks not being up to replacing Keane from quite a few experts on here in the summer of 2017.
Also this is a new partnership at this level and whilst not ideal it surely can only improve with experience.

OK, lets just say that I suspect that deceit has already occurred, but we'll know for sure if/when Tarkowski is still playing for us when the Window slams shut.

If he is pushing for the move to enhance his England career, so be it - just be honest and say it. If he says that and goes to West Ham - he's a fool, but I wont care about him, it is his choice. If it is a case of not playing him because of speculation, again just bloody say that. If he does genuinely have a toe injury then I'll apologise, but I'm still annoyed at being left in a situation like last night where "bare bones" just doesn't describe it accurately enough and the club (Dyche and Garlick included) have been and are responsible for us being in that situation. FFS we could have actually won that game yesterday with at least one of Mee or Tarkowski fit and playing - or Dawson for example if thats the choice to replace Gibson.
Perhaps I'm being a drama queen, and I know sometimes I can be. I watched a Burnley team last night who gave their all and did their best for the club, my club. Thing is, will they continue to do so if it comes to light that there's been a lie at the back of it all, so may, some may not - I do know that a lie (and I really hope I'm wrong) does go against Dyche's mantra completely.

All "ifs and buts" I know, and I'm just venting after sleeping on it.

Do you think our squad is in a good place right now?

Mid season could be argued that the emergency back up being used is required. At the start of a new season? Especially when you have a known injury, shifted one player out on loan and the other gets a mysterious injury pending a sale. Dunne is a league 1 level
Player even to be used as emergency back up is stretching it.

So continuing on from the other day I See. Yes younger players with potential should be our transfer strategy.. that doesn’t mean untested players who are levels below premier league standard nor does it mean young boys. Just not 30+ journeymen for a season or 2.

Right now in our situation, which is our own making we have a long term back up player who has never really been good enough and a player who wasn’t exactly pulling up trees in league one. So in this instance an experienced player or 2 is an absolute must.

We have been managed poorly to get into this situation whichever way you look at it.

Some nonsense comments on here.

How many times in recent years has our 4th choice CB played (for the sake of avoiding argument, Long became 3rd choice above Gibson last season)?

I would wager a huge amount that anyone saying we should sign another CB (assuming Tarks is staying) would be complaining if we named 5 CBs in our PL squad.

Re: Tarks injury

If Tarks stays, I won't be overly upset with heading into the season with Tarks, Mee, Long and Dunne. The only shame is that Dunne hasn't the opportunity to get more game time under his belt for BFC before we have reached this situation.

Going in with 2 relatively injury free (recent situation allowing) CB's, one who's happy to play back up and a young gun waiting in the wings seems ideal to me.

Of course, if he's off then we need a top quality replacement. It seems, according to Nixon at least, that Dawson may be the answer to that question.
