He's our new left winger in the absence of JBG and Brady.

Whatever he is, it will be great to have him back upsetting the likes of David Luiz.

Hasn’t he played wide before for us?

He’s proved to be a very good Premier League striker for us. Brilliant to see him back in action. Hopefully ready for the first team after the next international break.

Good to see Ash back in the fold again, he'll at the very least offer us an option off the bench, TBF the striker roles aren't the issue right now, it's the midfield and defence that need reinforcements, our 4 forwards are more than capable between them of netting enough goals to keep us up for another season if they get the service.

Could end up freeing Jay and Vydra up to play from the sides as wide forwards in a 424 if needs be

You'd fancy maybe a run out for Barnes against Millwall.

Not according to Sean. He had him pencilled in for two Under 23s this week. One of about 40 mins and the second a bit longer.

Expecting him to be hooked of by HT today.

Ahh hadn't read that. I'd gathered he'd want to give him two or three games but hadn't read he had pencilled him in for another U23 game.

I can't see it. The soonest I can see him back, would be maybe the game vs Newcastle or WBA, on the bench.

Several first-team players will feature for Sunderland’s Under-23s this afternoon when they take on Burnley.

Remi Matthews, Conor McLaughlin and Arbenit Xhemajli will all bank valuable minutes against the Clarets, with summer signing Morgan Feeney set to start.

Having featured for Phil Parkinson’s side during their 8-1 EFL Trophy win, Brandon Taylor, Jack Diamond and Dan Neil will also be in action.

Burnley, meanwhile, are likely to include Ashley Barnes in their starting XI, with the forward set to continue his comeback from a long-term injury.

The game will take place at 2pm behind closed doors, with reaction available on safc.com later this afternoon.

Seems like it's not just the PL that's getting high scoring games?

If Barney Trouble is still on in the second half, then things must be going well. I think they'll hook him off soon though. No point in pushing it if they want him to play Friday as well.

Start praying there's no bad reaction and he gets about 80 mins on Friday.

C'mon Barny, can't wait to see you back upsetting the likes of David Luiz.

An hour's football on his first game back seems to be quite common.

Me neither. He's vastly underrated. His touch and vision is better than given credit for. There was a through ball last night from Westy I think that a fit Barnes would have lashed first time. Whoever was up there wanted that split second longer. Barnes would have just fizzed it instantaneously.
Plus. He loves to wind up the opposition which my wife and I love. He and Tarkowski do that so well.

An hour is standard fare. We have to hope there are no after-effects. He'll feel a certain reaction which is normal after such a long layoff but hopefully nothing more.

In Barnsey we Believe.
