Let's ask another question.

Where would we be if the Board had not built up a substantial nest egg?

If they had spent the money on retaining the players that left last summer as Dyche seems to have wanted and brought in new ones as some have suggested.

I suggest, because of the unexpected impact of Covid, that we might be bust now, or in the near future.

That's the same question. Ideally we'd be in a position whereby we had a lower cash reserve but a first team squad able to cope with the sale of its star assets when the need arose.

Due to the extreme differences in revenue between the Premier league and championship it is financial suicide to run a football club in the way Burnley are at this present moment

What's that, Top? Looking to transfer ownership to people who have more money to spend ("invest," if you like) than the existing owners?

Sounds like "financial suicide" not to take the steps MG/the board is taking from my view point.

Possibly 5 points better off with far less risk of going down, possibly with 2 or 3 players developing into top quality players meaning we wont need to invest as much in the near future when a few of the older pros move on, or we end up making substantial profits on the players brought in and can reinvest it into the team.

Who knows, but it's been nothing short of negligent in recent windows.

Let's hope it doesn't come back to bite us in the backside, and the Americans are here sooner rather than later, and save us!

If covid hadn't arrived would Mr Garlick looked to have sold the club during the close season.

I read today that the Russian dissident who got poisoned is calling for sanctions against Putin's close allies including Abramovich and Usmanov, who was involved with Arsenal. I wonder how Chelsea supporters feel about having that sort of person owning their club? I know it's completely different from what seems to be happening at Burnley, but there must surely be a line we don't want to cross regardless of the success on the field it might bring.

If we accept the accuracy of reports that MG has been looking for new investor for over 2 years, I don't think it's unreasonable to think that MG and potential buyer(s) were looking to get something done over the summer - and then covid-19 came along and threw a "curve ball" into the plans.

PS: Do you like the phrase "curve ball?" ;) Are there other American phrases we can introduce into our posting. This mb has a full compliment of "Monday morning quarter backs" already. ;) I look forward to other insights into how we can "turn a dollar." ;)

As in Soccer AM & Gillette Soccer Saturday on Sky. Soccer is an abbreviation of Association Football and is English. They just use it consistently to avoid confusion with American football.

Our trajectory under Garlick's stewardship is now downwards. Whatever strategy we had around player acquisition and transfer has been abandoned for cash in the bank and now that's apparently gone too. The last two or three (five, six?) transfer windows have been negligent in terms of the first team squad.

So, whatever the takeover brings, it will at least make a change from the death by a thousand cuts we're currently being subjected to.
How on earth is there any evidence that our trajectory is downwards? It's just nonsense. Death by a thousand cuts? Finishing 10th last season, and now underway this season. Christ, some of you love unfounded nonsense.

I think it's a likely reality isn't it? Frozen season ticket prices are probably a thing of the past.... if people want more investment, then guess what, you'll have to chip in for it as well.

About 18 months ago, I posted, rather " tongue in cheek " a mock press release from our new 'merican owners, which I can't find ...

" A small rust-belt Town in Lancastershire, England that lost it's industry and jobs but still had it's Soccer team and it's pride ... Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, they've felt your pain, Arkansas, Mississippi, Tennessee and Alabama this is where your Cotton used to go and to any American who ever " pulled for the little guy " anywhere, this is your team !! Now led by " Stone Cold " Sean Dyche, Burnley roster a number of Irish Internationals in their weekly fight against the big guys, think a AA minor-league Ball Club from Billings, Montana taking on the Yankees or the Red Sox every week !!! They've been to the brink and back, " THE BURNLEY CLARETS, " A team for the average Joe !! "

Oh, say can you see by the dawn’s early light
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight’s last gleaming?
Whose claret stripes and blue stars thru the perilous fight,
O’er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket’s red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
Oh, say does that claret blue banner yet wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

Cricket field will pick that up in minutes and sing in unison

You know our current finances? I don't of course.

I'm thinking - still paying all wages, no income from matches, possible requirement to pay back money for cancelled overseas TV contract.

My biggest concern is the motive for wanting to buy Burnley Fooball Club. Are they trying to make money, or is it an ego trip. If it is the former, I believe we are in the sh1t.
That's a stupid comment. The current Directors have ran it as a business for profit for the past 10 years.

A quick read of this thread will reassure you as we apparently have in excess of £200m of assets that the lawyer and Egyptian were lining up to strip.

On a serious note, we’d have easily raised money. It may have left us short on the field but to suggest we’d have gone bust is pure nonsense.

Sproggy has taken a little stick on this thread but the premise of what he is saying is right and I think I said something similar in the first few pages.

Our MO in the last ten years has been a sort of “next cab off the rank policy. Have the sellable asset but have someone ready in the squad to step in.

It’s that that we need to get back to so that when someone waves £40m at us for Tarks we can take it knowing we’ve our next budding star ready to step in etc etc.

If ALK can achieve that I’ll be happy.

You need to generate more to spend more. Last week we announced our latest lucrative sponsorship deal with a property developer from Padiham. I'm not knocking it but we are a Premier League club. You would hope we would become commercially a lot better than we are.
I’m just as interested if not more so in what we may now look to do off the field.

We could and should be far more aggressive in our marketing of the club. Founder members of the FL, nigh on 140 years of history at the Turf. There’s a lot for the Americans to work with and take advantage of.

I agree with CT. On the field, the last 8 years has been remarkable, but you only need to look at the club website, match day facilities and commercial dealings to name but a few areas to see how much work we have to do.

A shake up at boardroom level to the day to day operational running of the club has been long overdue.

No, but Abramovich is a very close associate of Putin, on both a personal and business level, and Putin has been involved in some very dark activities, not least of which is the poisonings in Salisbury. He is little better than a terrorist, and so anyone who has a close relationship with him must be a very dubious character.

As long as they keep winning I doubt they'll give a flying ****. Personally I go to watch a game of football and to support my team, not worrying about any unsavoury characters around. If I did I wouldn't support anybody because even we have some let's say controversial characters associated with us.

I don't understand the strength of disdain pointed towards the current board. A board that have delivered massive results for the club (Often put down to them being lucky, but it's at times like this I think of the Gary Player quote) over a period of years, improved the facilities for players and fans, increased the quality of the playing side, and delivered the most successful period in my lifetime. If they feel they have hit the ceiling that the very successful business model they have put in place can deliver, and are finding suitable owners to give the club a chance of evolving further and going forwards, then I would say we should be thanking them massively for their period as custodians, not be "Glad to see the back of them". I think that's disrespectful and hugely unfair.
Could not have worded it better. Dyche has been great. But so too have the board. We couldn’t have done it without either.

"They could increase turnover of the company by"....hopefully not doubling season ticket prices.....yikes could you imagine the fallout if that happened
Not unlikely. I imagine they will look at all commercial income. And when they realise a) they haven’t increased in years and b) they are the cheapest in the top two leagues, that is something they will definitely consider.

Obviously they need to factor in Covid, affect in wages in an already relatively poor town, ‘customer’ loyalty etc. But it’s not unlikely.

How on earth is there any evidence that our trajectory is downwards? It's just nonsense. Death by a thousand cuts? Finishing 10th last season, and now underway this season. Christ, some of you love unfounded nonsense.
But we were going down under Howe remember.

they could increase turnover by lowering the prices and filling the stands

Let's ask another question.

Where would we be if the Board had not built up a substantial nest egg?
Screwed.
