Well well it seems the mighty Clarets aren't the only club attracting American interest.https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/54274142

But, yeah, Rob McElhenney is American, I'll give you that.
Very strange/interesting link. Not sure we would've predicted this one!

Actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney on cusp of completing Wrexham takeover
16 November 2020Updated 14:00 GMT
Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney are close to completing their takeover of Wrexham, reports Ali Humayun.
Wrexham Supporters Trust (WST) have now voted to approve the takeover, with the vote closing on Sunday. This decision will see the nine-year fan ownership model at the club end — subject to a final agreement, league and FA confirmation.
Wrexham are based in Wales and have played in the fifth tier of English football since being relegated from the Football League in 2008.
Who are Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney?
Ryan Reynolds is an award-winning Canadian actor, most famous for appearing in Marvel’s Deadpool for which he gained a Golden Globe nomination. Reynolds, who starred in Pokemon Detective Pikachu, is also a successful entrepreneur.
Rob McElhenney is an actor, director, producer and screenwriter. He is most known for creating and starring in the FX/FXX TV show It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, for which he has regularly written and directed episodes.
What are the numbers behind the deal?
Reynolds and McElhenney will buy Wrexham AFC Limited for a nominal fee and are then likely to invest a sum of £2 million immediately into the club.
How did the deal come about?
The WST board confirmed on 23 September that a majority of members voted to allow the board to discuss and negotiate an offer with the bidding pair. A total of 1,254 members were present at the special general meeting, with a huge 97.5 per cent of votes going in favour of continuing talks.
Voting for the proposed takeover took place between Monday, 9 November and Sunday, 15 November. More than 2,000 trust members were eligible to take part in the vote — with 91.5 per cent turnout.
The outcome was above the required threshold — with each resolution receiving above 98 per cent approval — confirming Reynolds’s and McElhenney’s takeover.
What has been said?
The WST thanked both McElhenney and Reynolds for their approach to the process.
They added: “As Wrexham supporters, we would like to wish them the very best of luck in charge of our Football Club and look forward to what the future brings.”
How did the pair convince the fans to sell?
The pair have been active in their attempts to convince fans of their credibility as owners.
Reynolds and McElhenney presented their vision to trust members on 8 November at a virtual meeting, along with answering questions from supporters.
The duo later issued a mission statement, which outlined how they aim to take the club forward as a business and as a successful football team. They also said they intend to attend games when work commitments allow.

Nice one. It's always good to see people taking over the smaller clubs with the vision of taking them through the divisions.

I suspect this is art least as much about the TV documentaries as it is about the club itselfFactualFrank wrote: ↑Mon Nov 16, 2020 2:57 pmNice one. It's always good to see people taking over the smaller clubs with the vision of taking them through the divisions.

No it’s not. It’s not fair. Clubs shouldn’t be allowed investment. Especially from overseas. Unless it’s us. But then it should only be allowed if they give us money but don’t want to be involved.FactualFrank wrote: ↑Mon Nov 16, 2020 2:57 pmNice one. Dagenham and Redbridge got some American investors two years ago. As yet there's been no obvious on field improvements since then.

Not quite Chris Farnell - but this is not a good start from a Wrexham perspective

you obviously do not know much about the English game if you are going to Shaun Harvey for advice

Smacks of a publicity stunt to me. They aim to make Wrexham an international powerhouse apparently. It's going to take a heck of a lot more than £2 million.
