Chris Wood

Post by Quickenthetempo » Sat Sep 26, 2020 12:37 pm

Chris Wood has the chance to score in 5 consecutive games today and become the first Burnley player to do so in the premier league.

There can't be many that have scored in 4 consecutive premier league matches for us?

Not just the Premier League but in all our history in the top flight. Even when we were challenging for the league, scoring in 4 consecutive games still takes some doing.

Score or not today, Chris Wood is a magnificent player and a wonderful fit for Burnley Football Club. He runs the channels brilliantly, holds-up well, is very effective in the air and crucially, the guy scores goals. First name on the teamsheet every week!!!

We always have a chance of goals when he's in the team. It's keeping them out at the other end I'm more concerned about.

Vokes did 4 once and Barnes has done it three times

Vokes
West Brom, Bournemouth, West Ham (2016/17) Chelsea (2017/18)

Barnes
Southampton, Everton, West Ham, West Brom (2017/18)
Manchester United, Southampton, Brighton, Tottenham (2018/19)
Arsenal (2018/19) Southampton, Arsenal, Wolves (2019/20)

Willie Irvine scored in 7 consecutive games in 1965/66, and just for good measure scored in 6 consecutive games later in the same season. Some achievement.

I think Jimmy Robson scored in 5 consecutive games in 1960/61.

And I certainly wouldn’t bet against it, penalty I think ;)

I think it’s a daft view from a small group of fans, the league has some world class strikers and defenders, it doesn’t mean the rest are average.

Wood is an old fashioned goal scorer, not some flashy striker that can score from 30 yards then have a 10 game goal drought

And then produced a child that went on to score goals against us.

Well! yeah but not in the PL. Our strikers have a decent ratio considering we don't create lots of chances, and if one is out of form then somebody else steps up, that's important as we're not reliant on 1 player bagging all the goals, look at Leicester if Vardy is missing they'll be struggling, at least when we've got a couple out Barnes & Jay Rod today, we've got Vydra and Wood to step up to the plate.

It’s because he isn’t as fast as Aubameyang... and he misses more than Gabriel Jesus.

Really like wood. Suits us perfectly, when we play to his strengths. We also have options now with the pace and skill offered by Matej and Jay. Nice to have it as we have been pretty one dimensional for a long time. Slow and steady progress, and it’s great.

Glad wood is here.

Incredibly 24 years ago, I think.

Andy Lochhead scored 5 in one game twice for us, but Louis Page holds the record with 6 in one game in 1925/26.

I think he's arguably our best player. Maybe not always pretty on the eye but hugely effective.

Has to be clinical with the limited number of clear cut chances he gets vs strikers in more expansive teams

Yep he scored 6 in our 7-1 victory at Birmingham that season.

How many did Jason Shackell score for us in that game against Derby - that must be up there. ;)

I was at the game at the Turf when it was Paul Barnes 5 vs Stockport 0

Every time that he went near their goal it looked likely that he would score

His Son is of course Harvey Barnes who plays for Leicester

I just checked and yes you are right that Stockport got 2 goals.
At my age I think I did well to remember that it was Stockport that we were playing :)
