The Expanse on Prime is good if you like Sci-fi
Lost in Space and Altered Carbon on NetFlix are also good for Sci-fi.

The Bridge on I player (Swedish version) is good. There is an American version on Prime or NetFlix (can't remember which) which is ok but not as good.

Half way through the first season of Frontier on Netflix. It’s got Jason Mamoa (Game of Thrones, Aquaman) as the central character and looks good so far. Season 3 finished in 2018, but after a delay season 4 is due this year.

I may have mentioned it on this thread already, but I found Medici (3 series) on Netflix really good. It has Richard Madden and Sean Bean in it, set in 16th century Italy.

If you want a nice easy to watch boxset I can highly recommend Virgin River. Set in Northern California (although actually filmed in Canada), the breathtaking scenery helps escape the misery of lockdown :)

The third episode of The Serpent..which was on BBC1 2 nights ago...was one of the tensest bits of TV drama I've seen in a long time. Excellent.
I've started watching Spiral (French police drama set in Paris) on BBC iPlayer and so far...6 episodes in out of 80+...it's really good stuff.

Just watched the 3 seasons of Frontier on Netflix.

Jason Mamoa (Game of Thrones, Aquaman) stars. It has 3 series and actually should have had a 4th which didn’t materialise, and now looks unlikely. I enjoyed it.

Thanks to all for the recommendations.

To add two that havent been mentioned:

- Kingdom - about an MMA gym. Jonathan Tucker gives one of the greatest acting performances ive seen in a long time.

- Lupin - French comedy drama about a gentleman thief. Only 2 episodes in but so far so good.

Would like to add to the collection, DARK - weird German gritty suspense detective stuff going on in the middle of a forest, kind of like a Twin Peaks but less cool and stylish, similar elements though. Pretty good so far, halfway through first series and enjoyed it although it's only the 2nd thing I've watched on Netflix so cant really compare with the standard stuff. Breaking Bad was the other, which was great.

The Shield is one of my all-time favourites ....a brilliant watch.

I still think the final series of Homeland is the best series of anything ever and at the moment I'm deep into Spiral, the french (Parisian) police drama which has all 8 seasons available on BBC iPlayer . Am towards the end of series 4 and I massively recommend it. Some great characters, multiple gripping plots running simultaneously and a really dark, unflinching look at crime and social issues .

Another vote for Cobra Kai, hooked and midway through series 2 at the moment.

Just finished watching '4 year plan' following recommendation on here and enjoyed that.

Didn't realize QPR had that many different managers in the space of 2 and a half years- just crazy, although I guess they'd say they achieved their plan with promotion under Neil Warnock (who lasted 2 seasons!)

It seems that loads of series are being discussed but very few films mentioned. If anyone has any films to recommend? I'd be grateful as I usually find a series too much to commit to.

A few I've seen of late and would recommend are:

Midsommar - Utterly bonkers depiction of a pagan type festival. Definitely not for the feint hearted.

Ready Player One - Somehow missed this on release but its a classic Spielberg adventure film with loads of 90's references. It's a right romp.

The Cabin in the Woods - The less said the better but it does a lot of what it says on the tin and then ramps it up to new levels.

The Ballad of Buster Scruggs - Coen Brothers at their very best.

Hunt for the Wilderpeople - From the brilliant Taika Waititi this is guaranteed to warm the heart and has plenty of laughs.

Jojo Rabbit - Same director, very different film. A brilliant and enjoyable story of a boys inner conflict growing of up in Nazi Germany.

I haven’t watched it all, but enjoyed Homeland. For some reason I never picked back up with it after one of the seasons (can’t recall which).

I may have to revisit it and try to recall where I was up to!!

Would strongly recommend you do that DCWat.....Homeland started strongly then dipped a little initially but Season 5 onwards is magnificent stuff with great plots which, increasingly, foretold actual events in the real world e.g. Russian interference in US elections, manipulation of social media, unstable US Presidency and the struggle to extricate troops from Afghanistan. I love espionage drama and Homeland combined this with current affairs and geopolitical tensions. It was also given a perfect ending in the final series (no spoilers).

Have to disagree regarding Ready Player One, wasn’t a patch on the book.

Hunt For The Wilderpeople is absolutely superb though, throughly enjoyed that.

Your Honor is very good, that’s a Sky thing though. Cranston excellent as per.

2 films on Prime I'd recommend

The Green Book -based on true events, the interesting story of a brilliant black concert pianist and his streetwise white minder/driver touring America's racist deep South in early 60's.

Greenland - surprisingly entertaining 'end of the world escape to survival' tale with Gerard Butler (along the lines of '2012')

I get bored with watching box sets, I struggle with finding the time. Prefer sports documentaries / life stories. Finding Jack Charlton was well made, and watched it when it first appeared on Prime. Just finished watching Making their Mark which is a look back at the Australian Rules football 2020 season from the perspectives of a number of different teams. Interesting to gain a different insight into coaches and players from another sport, along with how they coped with the challenges of Covid. I have been reading this thread through and my next program on the list will be The Four Year Plan about QPR.

I'm not sure if the US versions are different to the UK's, sometimes I think they are but maybe just things are on at different time.

From my perspective and two of us watching we obviously don't like all the same programs, but a few that are already mentioned that we both liked:
Bosch My all time favorite detective
Sneaky Pete, enjoyable, probably a little ling the movie Sting which I really enjoyed
Foreigner, movie, I wasn't sure about this when he picked it but thoroughly enjoyable
Yellowstone, both of us and the children all enjoyed it very much

Right now we are in the middle of Get Shorty, the series, we both enjoyed the movie but he believe this is the best series he has ever seen and better than the movie, have to say I'm enjoying it also and looking forward to the next episode, so this is my number pick/recommendation

Spider-Man Into the Spider-Verse (animated) is one of the best films I saw in lockdown. I'm not a fan of Super Hero stuff but it's a great concept and well worth having a look at.

Yellowstone is absolutely excellent. Costner is very good indeed as usual, and the guy who plays Rip is also great, but Kelly Reilly steals every scene she is in.

Can’t recommend Deadwood highly enough. Ian McShane is superb as Albert Swearengen.
