Dyche should put up and shut up

Post by DanH90 » Sun Oct 04, 2020 9:37 am

Firstly, want to start by saying that I fully back Dyche and can completely see why he’s frustrated with the board.

However, I think it’s clear to see all this sniping and moaning in every press conference is affecting team morale and therefore performances.

He needs to accept that the board can not compete financially and just get on with it without kicking up a fuss, get us through to January in a decent league position (which he’s proven time and time again he can do) and in private cross his fingers that this rumoured investment comes to fruition.

Or if he's that unhappy walk. Staying in the job if its hearts not in it anymore isn't doing anyone any good.

He's only saying what most fans are feeling or seeing.

How anyone who watched the back end of last season, or the start of this cant see what a shambles it is to work for this club needs to wake up.

How a premier league club of 5 years has got into this mess is negligent at best.

It's not just this window, or covid related, it's the result of 3 or 4 poor windows and a poor business model.

If you keep buying goods on the cheap and nearly at their sell by date and expecting them to last, then you're bound to get a dicky tummy eventually.

I completely agree with all of that and feel the same about the chronic underinvestment, but Dyche is employed by the club. He should by all means make his feelings known, but in private, and if he wants to have a grumble on the odd occasion in public to put pressure on the board then fair enough, but it’s every single week at the moment and is clearly having a negative impact on the team.

I think he has probably had a grumble or words in private, sadly like he said , his advice 2 years ago fell on deaf ears.
I'm quite glad he is the one telling the fans what's really happening.
Imagine if Mr Dyche didnt tell us what's going on? We wouldn't know nothing.

He's been let down time after time, window after window and has probably had enough, I know some supporters have.

The job our manager has done with 1 hand tied behind his back and a blindfold on has been heroic, imagine if he had been supported to his satisfaction.

He needs to give it a rest. It's tiresome and unprofessional. If he doesn't like it he has the option to leave...without compensation of course.

Back end of last season?

We got 15 points from 9 matches and were one of the form teams post lockdown with 2 defeats from 16 matches!

God it's all just so depressing at the moment isn't it?

If this was a marriage it would have ended in divorce long ago. But, like a divorce that involves a bit of brass, both parties are hanging on and hanging on because there is a lot of money at stake. Dyche won't walk away from the marriage without getting his fair share, and Garlick isn't prepared to pay him up.

And like all marriages which have deteriorated to the point of no return, it's the kids that are suffering now.

But it's obvious that its Dyche who wants to work with older, experienced players? He seems terrified of younger players or any player from outside the British Isles.

Doubt he'd walk from the job but he's as much to blame as the board constantly whining in the press with snide remarks must be filtering down into the dressing room...

Good analogy with the marriage. Especially like the bit about the kids.

Very much agree. For years Dyche has made an art form and forged his reputation out of taking underrated and undervalued players or even cast offs from reasonably lowly standards and knitting them together into an amazing unit which because of its unbelievable work ethic and its belief in itself, can achieve wonders which are far greater than the individual parts. Yes, in private he's probably badgered the chairman all along for some extra cash to sign this guy or that guy and sometimes it's yes ok and sometimes it's no Sean, sorry it's too much and Dyche shrugs and accepts it and gets on with it. Suddenly and sadly his loud and constant public moaning and denouncing of the chairman and the fiscal ethic we've worked with for about 7 years now, is becoming a self fulfilling prophecy and he's actually undermining everything he's built. We look like a bunch of individuals who alone aren't quite good enough and we know it!

Sadly that brilliant run may have gone against us. I can see Garlick and some of the geriatric board members saying "Sean you will be fine when those that are injured recover. We avoided relegation by some margin, and when everyone is fit again the same team will see you safe. We will even find a bit of funding to replace the guys out of contract that have left us. Dont worry about the other clubs in the PL. Covid will restrict them from spending on new players. The days of big transfer fees have gone"

Good post. I thought Westwood's post match interview was quite revealing, he seemed very bemused by what has just happened. To me he represents exactly what you state in your post, he is not brilliant as an individual but as part of the team he is great.

Something that seems to have been over looked is.
We had a 15 m left footed Ch as second choice.
Our first choice Ben Mee gets injured and we loan out second choice to Norwich.
Because he has a fall out with ass manager.
Surely this issue could and should have been resolved.
This is a very serious issue and a huge negative reflection on Dyche and Woan.
This was the start of the rot for me.

Bored with Dyche bitching after every single game and his media snipes at the board.
If he's not happy then why doesn't he just walk away?

Three and a half million reasons every single year.

Just get on with your job Sean, the one that you are paid more than any player who has pulled on the claret and blue shirt in our almost 140 year history to do.

Do we know if the Chairman had told SD in August that there was no money or do you think he has given SD hope of funds and strung him along. If the latter then you can see why he is hacked off, particularly with the contract run down saga and Gibsongate

Gods point about the Gibson fall out. It was very badly handled by Dyche and Woan and I believe it’s the reason for the fall out with Garlick. We spent a lot of money for nothing and it undermined his trust in Dyche signings.

Couldn't agree more and it's definitely not been overlooked by me as it's probably the one thing that's frustrating me the most right now. It's nothing short of scandalous tbh, because surely he's a miles better option than Long and the extremely inexperienced Dunne and it could have made all the difference to our start to the season. It's not even like we've recouped our money to use on other players as yet, as he won't be sold until next year. We're saving his wages and have got a small fee from Norwich for loaning him out I believe, but it would have been so, so much better for everybody had he been with us and playing! It's almost like this issue was the catalyst for all the issues which have surfaced since.

I know what you mean, but they are paying him to do that job. What they say goes, and I think he's complaining because he's saying to other clubs, "Go for me, as it's not my fault". £70k a week. Should be more professional and take his frustrations away from the camera.

Signing players from Europe is often far better value though. We pay a premium for the British, experienced lads Dyche seems to insist on.

I think as soon as another job crops up that he finds appropriate for his 'next steps' he will be off. The one that worries me is the Forest situation where they are bound to be on the verge of sacking their manager after a disastrous start.

he probably looks at a relatively new premiership managers in Dean Smith and Chris Wilder being backed to the hilt by their board and quite rightly thinks "am I having the pee took out of me"

he probably looks at a relatively new premiership managers in Dean Smith and Chris Wilder being backed to the hilt by their board and quite rightly thinks "am I having the pee took out of me"
I can just imagine the Aston Villa owners saying to Dyche if he had their managers job.

Right Sean we have a 200m budget, Who's on your list?

Dale Stephens, Phil Bardsley and it would be good to have Peter Crouch around the group for 60k a week banter.

Erm Sean we want fast attacking talented players with a sell on value.

Erm, erm, erm why don't you want all the squad in their 30s?

Is it a coincidental that the Garlick and Dyche relationship seemed to deteriorate (or at least become public) when the Gibson farce began?

I do not know but I suspect it may have a lot to do with our transfer policy since. It does not justify it but it might explain the Chairman’s reticence to back the manager... while feeling it impossible to pull the plug on our popular manager due to his status with us the fans?

I know what you mean, but they are paying him to do that job. What they say goes, and I think he's complaining because he's saying to other clubs, "Go for me, as it's not my fault". £70k a week. Should be more professional and take his frustrations away from the camera.
Who's head is on the block after poor results? Who's reputation is being questioned with a team at the bottom of the league? Who's the one accused of not wanting to sign foreign players? Who's the one who has to utilise the best of his player's abilities with 'anti-football'?

He only gets performances from the players he has got, so when media ask the question about signings - all he can do is direct them to the board because its nothing to do with him. So instead, you want him to say - "I'm pleased with the group I've got, the squad has enough quality to improve on last season, and players we are looking to bring in, we don't need really need anyway - I'm happy because I get a good wage"

Of course SD would sign the likes of Bardsley and Stephens given a larger budget 😅

Imagine being one of the players going out every game giving your best and the manager keeps going on about wanting to replace you with someone better.
Don’t think he’s said he wants better (although every manager does), it is more a case that we are short on numbers so we need more to cover for injuries and provide competition for places

I disagree.

It's his brand of football that he believes in 100% (which you have to 100%).

He has always had older professionals hanging around the group. Lennon, Hart, Crouch, Mat Taylor and Steven Reid for example.

What makes you think he would change? (Apart from other clubs having others who sign people).

Why would he play Steven Defour?

I don't know why you would question why he would play him?
But he was 28 when we signed him.
