Still remember how disappointed I felt when he let Wade leave for Bristol City, a player who could still turn the game on its head in seconds for us. Howe was a strong defensive coach Away from making Burnley a good team. Still remember being shocked that a defender himself; he seemed to have no interest in stopping the opposition scoring.

Ah the days where we had to score 2 or 3 to stay in a Championship game.

Eddie failed to match our expectations for our team

With Jason having taken over at Bournemouth presumably Eddie's going to need to find a full backroom staff from somewhere if he wants another shot at management. It'll be interesting to see how they both fare and if either one plays a different style than their teams did when they were together.

Such a strange time.

At times we appeared to be making great strides but just as often we appeared to be regressing badly. We were often lethal in attack but suicidal and incompetent at the back.

We were capable of scouting Ing, Trippier and Mee all for relatively small fees. And then we also signed Dane Richards, George Porter, Zavon Hines and Josh McQuoid.

Weirder still - all these things were happening at the same time. Strange days indeed.

I thought Dane Richards and maybe Treacy had been agreed before Howe was in charge.

He had an eye for a player for sure. Whilst Dyche’s gameplan isn’t always easy on the eye I hated that football under Howe. If you were 2-0 up with ten mins to okay you would be worried we were so frail defensively. It was worrying every time the opposition were anywhere near our goal. It’s a good reality check when being overly critical of our defensive set up now.

Heard that Treacy was a Flood signing but never had that verified.

Richards was signed towards the end of Howe's reign and made his solitary appearance under Dyche.

How much Howe was responsible we might never know but both signed during his tenure.

Heard a similar story about Treacy- deal agreed at director level and we were able to negotiate a reduced fee on the basis that we paid in full and up-front which helped Preston resolve a short-term cash-flow problem

It's worth remembering we were flirting with the Championship relegation zone when Eddie left us, and our game management that season was horrendous, the Sheff Wed game springs to mind as merely one example, Charlie bagged a HT, but every time we got our noses in front we allowed them to go straight up the other end and equalise, it was no wonder Mr Austin had steam coming out of his ears at the final whistle.

Howe did leave plenty of talent in Ings & Tripps amongst others, which Sean managed to mould into a unit, but surprisingly the youth set up was a disgrace, and we're only now recovering from the shambles that Jason Blake left.

The feeling was EH never settled at Burnley, and as hindsight has shown it suited all partners when Bournemouth came calling and he returned there.

Treacy came in Howe's first summer, Richards was signed in Howe's last summer but didn't arrive until after he'd left. Both Howe signings.

Same happened the other way when we sold Nogan. We turned down one offer from Preston but then accepted less because it was all up front.

My lasting memories of the Hout era are:
1. Junior Stanislas being a big girls blouse. He could pass though.
2. Hines, who came as a job lot, with Stanislas couldn't actually play.
3. Some good players but not a good team.
4. The discarding of some stalwarts, just because they were older.
5. Grezza getting 5 mins, if he was lucky, so he got to 1000 and yet we were all over the show at the back.
6. Trying to pass it about at the back, until the opposition came and stole the ball!

So pleased when he went. Just not Burnley.

Eddie Howe signed Kieran Trippier, Ben Mee, Danny Ings, Sam Vokes and Charlie Austin. If your lasting memory #1 of his time at Burnley was not being impressed by Junior Stanislas I think you might not be looking at the situation sensibly.

All those five signed when he was here. The last three were very much his signings.

That's what I said...some good players but not a good team.

Junior used to run alongside a player, to do his tracking back, but bever got in a tackle and the Cross always came in.

With Jay Rod, Austin and Ings it looked like the club finally had a plan of having a conveyor belt of young strikers that we would keep buying and selling.

It's a shame it wasn't carried on it what a partnership Ings and Vokes turned out to be.

We needed Howe at the time to overhaul the aging squad and we will need another similar manager when Dyche leaves.

Premier league players average less than a tackle a game.

Burnley since at least S Jordan played left back 12 years ago have defended narrow and just let crosses come in.

I was at Crystal Palace for his last game which we lost 4-3 after going 0-2 up. Just about summed up his time at the club. Six goals scored in four days( 3-3 draw at home to Sheff Wed. the previous Tuesday) and only one point to show for it.

I always thought he was ALMOST an excellent manager for us and he definitely made some good signings. He was clearly given some money to spend and largely spent it wisely and was able to "wheeler deal" a bit too, BUT it was plain and obvious to every single person on the Turf that our Achilles heel was the defence and it simply had to be improved. That also included the defensive aspects of midfield as the below par back four were getting no protection tbf and he just seemed either oblivious to this or actually unable to sort it. What summed it all up to me was his perseverance with the clearly lightweight Edgar for example, not only in defence, but also in midfield when a couple of astute signings to stop us shipping quite so many goals could have made a huge difference to his Burnley career. Enter Dyche, a born defender, who spotted exactly that on day one!
As an aside, I only know via things said on here and after the event that he oversaw a catastrophic dismantling of the youth system which I know gets people who witnessed it extremely angry, so I have to assume he got that totally wrong too and that sullies his time with us.

2-0 up and getting battered. Poor Kieran Trippier hung out to dry that day because of the way we were trying to defend.

Whether its SD or another manager ,relegated or not, the squad is ageing and is going to need a major overhaul over the next 18/24 months

All managers have strengths and weaknesses.

Dyche is like Stan in wanting experienced players and play for the here and now. Which is what I would do with a 2.5m staying up bonus.
But after their stints, there needs to rebuild jobs with a manager that can bring in young player and build for the future. Even if it's for the next manager after that to capitalise on that has happened here.

Most people were quite pleased when Rigg was appointed and thought the transfer policy would change to younger players but for one reason or another it hasn't.

That’s a different situation altogether. I couldn’t cope with the turgid slow football again. We used to call it pass and move without the move. I saw Bournemouth play a couple of games after restart and it was no different to what we suffered here.

I don’t think he has much effect on first team recruitment to be honest. I think he has probably had a lot of influence on the U23 squad recruitment though. Will be interesting to see how those players progress over time. It doesn’t include such as Dunne, Benson & Thomas though, all were here before Rigg.

You may be right, Fretters and someone like CT probably knows the actual facts, but I definitely recollect him playing for Howe, especially towards the end of his tenure and kind of epitomising how we were a nearly team with some really good players, but overall too many who were not quite good enough, especially at defending. I may have recalled it wrongly.

They didn't go because they were older, that's garbage.

They went because they downed tools when Coyle dumped them for Bolton and they behaved poorly under Laws.

Player power was the issue and Howe wasn't having it so shipped them out.

I always found it interesting that for someone so astute in the transfer market, Howe for some reason thought Marvin Bartley would ever be good for the Championship having managed him at Bournemouth.

Giving Eddie the benefit of the doubt, I think he was looking for that defensive midfielder to give our shaky defence more protection and in the end he took somebody who was affordable, available, would graft and who he knew from his previous club, but even he thought Marvin PROBABLY wasn't quite up to it. And he wasn't.
