He's got his wish to play for his home town club - still better than Zidane too

Nice to see that he's got his wish to go and play back home at the end of his career - who knows just how good he might have been without all the injuries

I bought a car from Mechelen back in the 90's when importing cars produced big savings. Best wishes and good luck Stephen, thanks for some great performances and goals. Too short a time but such memories.

Re: ARTICLE: Back home for Defour
Great player, and the best technically gifted one I have seen in a Burnley shirt.
Ravaged with injuries, a massive shame he didn’t perform at the highest level. More than capable, and I consider myself fortunate to have seen some of his finest moments however brief they were.

Truly gifted (could we have got him back as a squad member ?).When you look at us now how did we manage to sign players like him, Chris Wood, Joey Barton, Andre Gray. Just shows what quality can give you.It certainly helped establish us as a PL team Bring back those days please

Great news for him.
In normal times I visit Mechelen every month, hopefully I can try and fit a game in.

Re: ARTICLE: Back home for Defour
I've been lucky enough to see our best players from the mid-sixties onwards, the likes of Dobson, Thomas, James, Coates and O'Neil etc.
I reckon I could shoe horn him into my top 5, even though as others have stated, his time with us was all to brief.
Like those masterpieces you see in art galleries, you step back and take in the beauty of it all.
Only 3 goals but you couldn't put a fag paper between them to pick your favourite.

Will you be doing a played for both page for KV Mechelen? You could have Defour and Drissa Diallo on that one.

Re: ARTICLE: Back home for Defour
I hope he enjoys the twilight of his career. His signing was a marker in the rise of our club, and when fit was a joy to watch. On a family holiday we all went to a KV v Clubbe game, KV winning with 10 men. The atmosphere created by a 12000 sell out crowd was brilliant.

The free kick at Old Trafford mate,I've sat and watched that goal many times,to see DDG (when he was probably the best keeper around) clutching at fresh air was a sight to beholdJuan Tanamera wrote: ↑Thu Oct 15, 2020 9:51 pmI've been lucky enough to see our best players from the mid-sixties onwards, the likes of Dobson, Thomas, James, Coates and O'Neil etc.

The goal against Bristol City in the FA Cup comes out on top for me. Very few players would have tried that, even fewer had the composure and ability to pull it off.Juan Tanamera wrote: ↑Thu Oct 15, 2020 9:51 pmI've been lucky enough to see our best players from the mid-sixties onwards, the likes of Dobson, Thomas, James, Coates and O'Neil etc.

I expect had he not had his injuries, Fergie would have gone on and signed him.

Re: ARTICLE: Back home for Defour
That's the one for me and I actually put the Man United free kick bottom of the three which about sums up the quality of the other two. His goals didn't come very often but they were worth waiting for.Exeterclaret wrote: ↑Fri Oct 16, 2020 10:37 amThe goal against Bristol City in the FA Cup comes out on top for me. Hull city goal for me was the best ...the little touch in centre circle that wrong footed the hull player ...and the powerful run finished with a fantastic finish from a fair distance out
