Todays football
Liverpool 1 up in 3 mins.
Pickford scythes VVD down but offside given. I’d have given him a red for endangering an opponent.
VVD subbed by Gomez. Southgates poster boy back on the bench at L’pool.

An obvious sending off for Pickford ignored by VAR

Re: Todays football
Could VAR not look at the Pickford tackle because of the offside? it was an horrific tackle.

Re: Todays football
Not sure how that can be right for the game. Offside by a whisker (maybe) but Pickford’s challenge was definitively a red card pre VAR.

Ridiculous, that’s a red if an outfield player makes the same challenge.

Why wasn’t he given a red? Not watching it live.Granny WeatherWax wrote: ↑Sat Oct 17, 2020 12:49 pmRidiculous, that’s a red if an outfield player makes the same challenge.
Surely the game continues and if he’d punched him it’d be a red so why not for the tackle

VAR can and should have looked at it - it’s a straight red

Re: Todays football
That is the worstofficiated match I’ve ever witnessed.
David Coote should never be on VAR again. The lines for both the VVD incident and Hendersons goal were shocking. Mane in particular the line was taken from his elbow.

It’s not even funny how bad Pickford is any more. It’s totally mental that he’s playing for both club and country.

Re: Todays football
How can it be a bad decision? With VAR you’re either onside or offside, and based on the technology Mane was offside. It’s a totally ludicrous situation, but it’s not a bad decision.Goodclaret wrote: ↑Sat Oct 17, 2020 2:32 pmI think that's one of the worst VAR decisions so far!!

Imagine that going against you in the last minute of a derby match, you'd be absolutely fuming.

Nothing to indicate that it’s offside - needs to be clear and obvious, it’s neither.

Re: Todays football
Neither do you - the Media channels do - none claiming it was offside. The VAR system seeks to provide a way for "clear and obvious errors" and "serious missed incidents" to be corrected

Re: Todays football
Not sure that matters in this instance. I'll wait to see it again because you seem clear it was offside. At the time I thought it was an incorrect decision because you can't be offside with an arm.

Re: Todays football
From the lines shown on tv he wasn't offside though, hence an awful decision?

Re: Todays football
No, don’t get me wrong. I’m not clear that was offside. I can’t tell whether it’s offside or not because I don’t have the benefit of the technology, and the technology isn’t accurate enough to judge decisions to such small margins.
But if the technology shows that Mane was 1mm offside then he is offside. It’s a ridiculous rule but that’s where we are. I have to assume that the VAR has used the technology to arrive at that decision - particularly as it would have been easier to let the goal stand.
As for offside with the arm, hasn’t the line moved to the ‘t-shirt’ line now?

Re: Todays football
Ok, maybe then. If that's the case it's pointless showing us anything on tv.
Not having a go Riley as I usually go with the offsides as they should be black and white. This just looked wrong.

Not heard about evidence being withheld from the tv viewing public. What would be the reason behind that?

Re: Todays football
That all looks level.
Re: Todays football
I didn't think the VAR line was aligned to the t shirt line or that the technology showed he was 1mm offside. If he was fair enough - clear and obvious error certainly doesn't apply to offside.Rileybobs wrote: ↑Sat Oct 17, 2020 2:49 pmNo, don’t get me wrong. I’m not clear that was offside.
