Short Phone Numbers

Post by wilks_bfc » Wed Oct 21, 2020 10:45 am

Anybody else receiving calls from phone numbers that are only 10 digits long?

Been getting them pretty regularly over the last few weeks, all different numbers but all only 10 digits, but none of which are coming up on any google search

Scams possibly. I receive calls that actually have area code numbers but are not from there if I call back the number is not registered. To me these are possible scams. I just wonder if the SFO could trace the source of these and find the scammers.

Yeah had those before, along with showing as from US States, and I do ignore numbers that I don't know (or are unexpected) and block but they have all been different.
I have answered one just want to know who they are, but nobody there

Old numbers used to be 5 digits after the area code

Was plagued with 10 digit callers till we got a call blocker 👍 still get the odd rogue call sneaking through but nothing like it used to be.

The cloning of area codes is the worst thing as a lot of people have caller id, and so people pick up thinkibg its a genuine call....

Ignore is the best thing to do. I also ignore numbers I don't recognise. If its important they can leave a message or send a text

The 10 digit ones are largely from India if you google the number

Me too. Just ignore and see if they leave a message.

And our call blocker has proved an excellent addition as we had a potential problem from a series of scam callers telling me I had a computer problem which I ignored until eventually I took the p**S by saying hold on whilst I check and then claimed there were brilliant as someone had stolen my computer.
For the next 72 hours I must have received over 50 calls from around the UK of people (and I am sure they were genuine folk) ringing me back because they had just had a call from my number and our worry was that we may have had calls to premium numbers in those calls, but when we contacted our phone provider they had no record of our so called increase in outgoing calls. It was really irritating to say the least but it still hasn't stopped me taking the p**s from scam callers

It amazes me that phone regulators can't do more about these scam phone calls. Especially the calls where they ask you to press 1 and when you do they charge you. Surely that charge goes through BT and therefore they should be able to regulate it.
