Re: Jay rod
The take up of the 1 year extension on his contract will save the club around £2 to £2.2m m in the current season's accounts as the remaining £5m Amortisation on him is split of 2 years rather than the single season it is nowmill hill claret wrote: ↑Wed Oct 28, 2020 11:05 amClubs twitter feed just put a random picture up of him smiling ...could he be about to sign a new contract ..
Edited to adjust for the proportion of the accounting year remaining on a new deal
The only players left in the squad where such deals can have a £1m + positive effect on the accounts are Chris Wood (who signed an extension last year), Matej Vydra, Ben Gibson, Josh Brownhill, Jack Cork and Robbie Brady.

Re: Jay rod
I thought he started off slow when he came back to us and I wasn't convinced. But he's shown what he's worth, for sure.

Needs to start ahead of Barnes.

Re: Jay rod
Since he returned, he's showed that he can still cut it with a few good goals, including that brilliant strike at Old Trafford.
We may need his goal input more than ever this season.
And yes, if AB doesn't step up to the plate, he should be in.

Isn’t accounting crazy. I read something about stoke recently making more money off loaning our failed players than they would by selling them because of how it’s accounted for.Chester Perry wrote: ↑Wed Oct 28, 2020 11:11 amThe take up of the 1 year extension on his contract will save the club around £2 to £2.2m m in the current season's accounts as the remaining £5m Amortisation on him is split of 2 years rather than the single season it is now

Re: Jay rod
I would think so. They did something similar recently (was it Dwight?) but it was followed up very quickly with the news of his new deal. I'd suspect we are talking to Jay Rod but I'm not convinced the pic is relevant. I'm usually wrong so I should probably get something written.

I know we use them as a feeder club but should they really be paid for loaning our players....cricketfieldclarets wrote: ↑Wed Oct 28, 2020 11:43 amIsn’t accounting crazy. Re: Jay rod
in the J Rod example it doesn't make one bit of difference to cash balances though (if you put to one side us having to replace him if he left), just how its reported in the annual accounts.cricketfieldclarets wrote: ↑Wed Oct 28, 2020 11:43 amIsn’t accounting crazy. Re: Jay rod
If we used the Derby County approach - our amortisation would be very low as rather than use a straight line depreciation they use a market value for the player - which while below the purchase price paid is still much higher than the approach used by everyone else in England. Basically it allows them greater leeway with FFP but means they have to sell a player when he approaches his final year and will not extend his contract - a very risky approach if the player takes the Bosman pathcricketfieldclarets wrote: ↑Wed Oct 28, 2020 11:43 amIsn’t accounting crazy. The EFL recently failed in getting them to change this practice

Yes stoke were doing something similar I think. Based on market value and depreciation etc.Chester Perry wrote: ↑Wed Oct 28, 2020 12:13 pmIf we used the Derby County approach - our amortisation would be very low as rather than use a straight line depreciation they use a market value for the player - which while below the purchase price paid is still much higher than the approach used by everyone else in England. Re: Jay rod
dibraidio - It is just less amortisation in the accounts for this year that is all - no extra real cash but an extra £2m+ on the bottom line for this season -
Given we started the season with an amortisation expectation of well over £40m, extending contracts would not only keep Sean Dyche happy but improve the balance sheet.
Some clubs would use it to help with FFP and/or to bring other players in - our club doesn't play those games, but is does like to make a book profit - which if nothing else keeps HMRC happy as we are one of the biggest payers in corporation tax in British football in recent years - some would find that poor management others would call it good citizenry - take your pick

Re: Jay rod
"Amortisation" (3rd post) - had to look that one up on tinternet!
In case you, like me, hadn't a clue but want to know, it's
the action or process of gradually writing off the initial cost of an asset.
"due to the amortization of initial costs, the risks of negative working capital are mitigated"
the action or process of reducing or paying off a debt with regular payments.
"because of amortization, you’ll own your home by the end of the loan term"
a period in which a debt is reduced or paid off by regular payments.
"75% of the mortgages have an amortization of 25 years or less"
So there!

Perhaps there are not many people at the football club walking around these days with a smile on their faces so, when they found Jay Rod smiling, they decided to put it on Twitter.
As you would
