No one seriously challenging Pickford

Post by bobinho » Thu Nov 05, 2020 8:30 pm

According the the boss of the national team...

I can think of three off the top of my head. Shame the boss of the national team can’t see what’s right in front of his face.

Looks like the FA got their man. At the beginning I thought we would get what he said we would get... players in form playing. :?

Southgate is a prick, another like OGS totally out of his depth,Brian Clough will be spinning in his grave at the thought of this knob managing the National football team

Dropped by Everton for being useless and kept by Southgate, a total farce.

OGS has had a better start in his first 100 games as manager than what Klopp had at Liverpool.

Man Utd have also taken more points in the PL this calendar year than Chelsea. OGS out of his depth but Fat Franks doing a great job, or so the media say. It’s weird, especially when Chelsea have been far more successful than Man Utd over the past 10 years. You’d have thought Frank would be under the most pressure.

He can't see past his favourite starting eleven.
I have a Villa supporting mate who rants constantly about him fawning over Mason Mount everytime he is asked about Jack Grealish.
Southgate has a fixed mindset when it comes to team selection. He won't win anything, but his approach suits the sponsors and the people who decide if he's the man for the job unfortunately

Southgate started off with a formula and was prepared to give players a chance. He has a plethora of talent at his disposal, particularly in midfield but seems to have reverted to the FA plan of picking names based on who they play for rather than their capabilities.

Don't think anyone has argued that but neither has Pickford. Pope was the best English keeper last season and Southgate still picked Pickford.

While Pope is an excellent keeper and uses his height at crosses to the very max , probs only the great Petr Cech did it better ,his feet quite simply don’t cut it in the modern “ keeper template “ stakes . Pickford’s feet are way better and he can pick players out with ease which Pope can’t . JP is also incredibly quick “ into the dive”

Ironically if Heaton hadn’t got injured a few yrs back I believe he’d be our undisputed no 1 as his all round game is remarkably balanced and as fault free as they come .

Henderson would be my choice

Surprising statistics, which never lie,but unlike Klopp OGS is never going to win the Prenier league or the Champions league with Utd is he?

Pickford having decent feet is a myth. Just watch how many times he actually finds his man.

Maguires another one for me who's only in the team due to his 80mil price tag. With the amateurish cockups he's made recently he shouldn't be anywhere near the team.

Nah, he won’t

I do find the Ole/Frank thing strange mind. I can see why Ole might be under most pressure because Man Utd want to be back where they were. But Chelsea too have been hight successful in recent times.

Henderson would be my choice also, but if he's not playing regular footy he can't be considered for England at this time.

It's somewhat worrying that GS doesn't think Pickford has any serious challengers, what happens if JP is unavailable for any reason who goes between the sticks then?

I do think in the next couple of years DH will emerge as England's number one, whether he'll still be a Man Utd at that time is another question altogether.

As we saw last season form counts for nothing despite what Southgate has said about picking those who are playing well. I liked the fact that he gave youth a chance but think that the constant changing of players is actually doing nothing to help the national team develop.

He's going to have an issue if Pickford gets frozen out, Pope's form improves and / or Henderson starts for United.

Good news for England fans that Pickford is back in the team today and still looks to be the undisputed #1 for both his club and country.

Hope he plays well as the country needs an inform Pickford this season ready for the summer.

Stats on Pickford season on season, demonstrate he is not best...at anything. Too short. Panics.

Attributes: Athletic....but on the wane.
Learning by experience, like proper keepers do? No.

Pickford is a big time Charlie and a mistake waiting to happen. He is living off his penalty saves. My Bradford. City supporting friends say he is overrated. Not seen enough of Henderson so that leaves Pope, but he plays for Burnley so he won't play.If he played in London he would.Southgate is a arselicking yes man
