Aubameyang 2 goals in 11 games this season, 7 goals in 5 games v Burnley. You know where to put your money !!

One thing is for sure. Anyone from Aston Villa (currently 10th) downwards could go down. It only takes a run of defeats like the likes of Palace had just last season. Therefore, there is no point of these 2 from 4 or 3 from 5 type threads....

For what it’s worth I’d expect Arsenal to be safe so with that in mind I’d say it’s 3 from 10....

I was tempted, but the Skybet website is drunk - I'm on my home PC and it's loading up the mobile version and hiding the login. Ah well.

I think a really low points total will be enough to finish 17th this year. I can't see the likes of Fulham, West Brom and Sheff United getting 30 points tbh.

A minor stat in that we have the lowest points total for a team finishing 18th on 30 points when we got relegated in 2010 meaning 31 points would have kept a team up that season.

I'm glad you spotted my deliberate mistake :) but we probably have as much chance of beating them at The Emirates as Highbury 🤔

Well Aubameyang kept up his scoring run anyway, pity for him he put it in the wrong goal.

Considering we are only 5 points behind Leeds with a game in hand I don't know how anyone can still say it's 3 from 5.

Because they come out with the same bs every season when we are in a sticky patch.....as said above it is 3 from 10 or so as it nearly always is. We’ve played less than a third of a season so anything Villa and below.

I think it's fair to say that if we manage to keep everyone fit (Mainly Mee and Tarkowski) we won't go down, probably not even close to getting relegated. Supporters should not be too surprised to see us mid table by the seasons end.

We are now in a run of one defeat in five, with five more games to get points from before we play Liverpool.

We should be able to collect points in our next 5 games, and Liverpool aren't the force they were, if Brighton & Fulham can obtain draws off them then we can certainly get something against them, the only team we struggle to compete against in this league is City for whatever reason, but we've always got a fighting chance facing the other 18 on any given day.

One game at a time. But we've shown that apart from Man City, it really doesn't matter who we play against.

If we keep our shape and stay organised, we can keep any team out and nick a goal at the other end.

Of course 1 game at a time FF, but our recent good run must engender confidence in the squad and Sean that we can survive.

Fulham-Brighton on Wednesday is a huge game for both teams though, if results go against them Brighton could find themselves in the bottom 3, but this just shows how quickly fortunes can change, hence why we need to keep our foot on the throttle, and try if possible to create some breathing space between us and the drop zone if we can.

I'll be :o if anyone above Leeds get drawn in, but mid-table teams have plummeted in the past.

As long as we take care of business it won't matter what everyone else does, put the points on the board and we'll be fine. :)

Well last week we were the only team in the bottom 5 to even pick up a point, and this week we were the only team to pick up all 3, so that's a decent launchpad for the rest of our season. :D if that continues.

Almost 2 months since my original post and I stand by the title.

Thankfully, we look least likely to be playing the Bar Stewards next season. Sheffield down; looking grim for Fat Sam and West Brom; leaving 2 from 3 for the last spot.

Newcastle are just 3 points above us and we have them to play at home. Why do you not think they’re in the mix?

If it wasn't for the alleged match fixing at Leeds, we would be checking our passports for next season now.

It certainly looks like 3 from 5 glancing at the table, however I wouldn't completely rule out anyone up to Leeds getting sucked in just yet.

That said the bottom 3 will have to go on an almighty good run to bridge the gap, one of them might do that, but all 3 seems unlikely, so unless the middling teams totally implode, and some are trying such as Newcastle and Palace, then it's looking grim for the current bottom 3, the good news for us is we're in a rich vein of form, and unlike the other strugglers we are capable of winning games when it really matters, that's why I'm reasonably confident we'll have enough if push comes to shove.

If I was a Brighton fan I'd be worried, everyone keeps stating that they're playing well, however they can't turn all their draws into wins, and unless that changes pronto, they're in for a long hard season. The same could also be said for Fulham, they've markedly improved from their early season slump, but despite this they still can't find a way out of the danger zone, and 4 draws in a row isn't going to help them much unless they can notch up the odd win, it's the 3 points that haul you up the table, put 2/3 of those together on the bounce, and you'll leap up the standings, as we've managed to do in recent weeks.

We've got a tough looking January on paper so I certainly won't be counting any chickens just yet. We could easily find ourselves back in the bottom 3 come the end of this month, I still think come the end of the season we'll be fine, but the longer you're amongst the dead men the more the pressure mounts.

Are we talking about the Newcastle who need 19 points from their next 23 games to be almost guaranteed safety on 38 points? The one's that just drew 0-0 with Liverpool?

Yes. There’s only one team called Newcastle in the Premier League. I’m curious as to why the other poster thinks that we are one of the 5 teams in the relegation mix, but a team with just 3 points more at this stage of the season isn’t.

It’s often said by lots of people that no team are too big to go down & mostly people are right but in this case it’s complete bo11ocks Newcastle are too big to get relegated they are more than capable of harvesting the required points to keep out of trouble & gaining important results when it matters, just be reassured that people more knowledgeable than you about football are confident Newcastle will be ok or if you are still doubtful shove a lump on at 9/2.

Aside from a three point gap why are we any more likely to go down than they are?

As usual was there a point? You would find an argument in a empty room, I actually agree with you Burnley aren’t more likely to be relegated as Newcastle I’ve already said both teams I think will be fine, if I had to analyse which team were the strongest it’d be a close call some areas we over perform them & vica versa.

My point was quite obvious - it isn’t just 3 teams from 5 in the relegation mix. And if Burnley are 1 of the 5 then why are Newcastle being discounted at this stage of the season.

If you are agreeing with my point then why are you arguing against it?

Agree. Not a shoe-in I know, but if we had played Fulham and won we would now be level on points with Newcastle yet some aren't seeing them as in the mix but we are? Add that to the clear ill feeling around that club presently and it's even more of a strange view. Bizarre.

I like these comparative tables. Not seen this one before but it emphasises our most recent form. No way are we going down. Only Manure, Liverpool, Citeh and Everton are scoring more points per game on recent form (Last 8) :D

The first 6 games is what knackered us up, and we're now slowly recovering. The games without the Tarky-Mee partnership. I just hope this transfer window, we bring in another solid CB, as we can't rely on anybody else other than those 2, imo.

Agreed, but we need someone to whip in good balls from the right, just as Taylor does from the left. Trippier anyone? ;)

You can't help but wonder had Mee been fit from the start of the season we might have had an outside chance of Europe this season, like last year.

Was listening to the Squad or whatever it's called on 5 live yesterday. They were briefly discussing which teams may go down and we didn't get a single mention.

I think we'll come mid-table, which is what I was saying six matches into the season.
Funnily enough even when we were propping up the league the pundits didn't think we'd go down, and many stated that we were in a false position, our recent upturn in form has proven them all 100% correct.

I can see us amassing 40-45 points by the end of the season, which will be plenty to see us comfortably mid-table, and ensure another season in this league, and all being well we'll be able to push on next season, and possibly challenge for a top 10 place or better.

Did you mean 50-55 points?

I can't see 40-45 being mid-table. 50-55 would do it though.

Depends what you class as mid-table, last season Newcastle came 13th with 44 points, we are well capable of reaching that total, even a point a game until the end of the season would give us 39 points, and our recent form is much better than that, so even with a dip here and there, we should have more than enough to stay out of trouble. We'll do well to match last season's points tally after our slow start, but finishing in the mid 40's would still represent a solid campaign once more.

Despite being the FA Cup West Brom conceded another two goals today.

Big Sam isn't working wonders with their defence at the moment & it's starting to look bleak for them.

I still think the fact that we are keeping clean sheets (five out of the last nine) that will stand us in good stead.

During our run it's meant that despite only scoring six goals it's netted us fifteen points (arguably down to those clean sheets) from nine matches.

Despite Wood and Barnes being out of form it shows that we've still managed to put an incredibly good run together, simply because we've been able to see out 1-0 leads.

As long as Mee and Tarkowski remain fit we should do reasonably comfortably. Had Mee been fir from the start I suspect we'd have had another 4-5 points from the first six matches rather than just one and we would have been in a more stable mid table position.

Yes we will.

We've started converting losses into draws and those draws into wins.
That's always been the aim.
