Watkins looking like 1 of seasons bargains.
Re: Today's footie 8/11/20
The players are definitely out there. The lad Justin at Leicester is another, he's a regular for them now, cost about 6 million from Luton.

he must watch all players with a bag over his head ! On current form there is no better player than Grealish in his positiondougcollins wrote: ↑Sun Nov 08, 2020 8:54 pmSouthgate must watch Grealish with a bag over his head.

I wasn't sure that he would handle the step up from the Championship, I was wrong.

Is £30m classed as a bargain in this era?, yes he's started life in the PL with a bang, but he was hardly a bargain basement signing was he.
It surely helps any striker when they've got the likes of Barkley, Grealish & McGinn to fed them the chances, of course you've still got to take them, and he's certainly gobbling them up right now.

It is taking into consideration he's only 24 years old & pre peak, it's justified if the goal contributions push villa on, I agree with your points regarding the service it'll make life a lot easier for him, if you stand still in this league you go backwards it's unforgiving.tiger76 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 09, 2020 2:39 pmIs £30m classed as a bargain in this era?, yes he's started life in the PL with a bang, but he was hardly a bargain basement signing was he.

Re: Today's footie 8/11/20
I'd live for us to be able to go out and sign players of Watkins calibre, but we can't compete with the likes of Villa in the market, the time for us to nab those type of players is when they're in the lower leagues, we used to have such a strategy, JBG & Pope spring to mind amongst many others, but apart from BPF who looks like he could be a good capture under Billy Mercer's guidance, we've not really gone down that road in the last few windows, I don't count Brownhill because he was an established Championship player when he signed for us. Why we don't scout in Leagues 1 & 2 idk, or maybe we do and the gaffer doesn't fancy those players for whatever reason, either way we need to find a solution to these problems, otherwise we'll find it even harder to compete in the Championship, let alone the PL.Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Mon Nov 09, 2020 10:36 pmIt is taking into consideration he's only 24 years old & pre peak, it's justified if the goal contributions push villa on, I agree with your points regarding the service it'll make life a lot easier for him, if you stand still in this league you go backwards it's unforgiving.
Whatever occurs this season our squad will require a major overhaul next summer, and we don't appear to have a long-term plan to oversee such an ambitious undertaking whether Dyche is here or not, perhaps we're hoping some of the development squad will come good, and possibly the likes of Benson, Dunne, Gleenon, Goodridge, Richardson, Thomas & Thompson will make the grade, I hope so because otherwise the future looks grim with our ageing squad, and a host of ooc players in 2021.

We could but I doubt the desired inclination exists in terms of competing, it's a myth that we financially can't, going forwards without a plan or seemingly apparent that that's the case will be difficult to say the least, I think it'll be a step backwards & assess at that juncture, some will extend & the promising 1s from the youth setup will emerge so that'll be the blend in a season or so, regarding the scouting dropping down into league 1 or 2 & taking a look is a good idea, I don't understand why the overseas market can't be tapped into for odd bargains, a knowledgeable scout with a plane ticket & some documents pertaining to a contract is all takes.tiger76 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 09, 2020 10:54 pmI'd live for us to be able to go out and sign players of Watkins calibre, but we can't compete with the likes of Villa in the market, the time for us to nab those type of players is when they're in the lower leagues, we used to have such a strategy, JBG & Pope spring to mind amongst many others, but apart from BPF who looks like he could be a good capture under Billy Mercer's guidance, we've not really gone down that road in the last few windows, I don't count Brownhill because he was an established Championship player when he signed for us. We could also adopt a wheel of fortune style approach, spin the wheel with say 16 countries on, then when it stops on a country spin another with teams from that country on it. Once that spin has stopped we could then spin another for the position then once all those have been selected go onto the clubs website, select 1st team squad then make a bid for the player the wheel has selected.
It could mirror your capital punishment approach.

You forgot the last wheel - the one in Mike Garlick's office - it only has one value on it though , "No".claretonthecoast1882 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 10, 2020 8:18 amWe could also adopt a wheel of fortune style approach, spin the wheel with say 16 countries on, then when it stops on a country spin another with teams from that country on it.
