Villa
Re: Villa
They sacked their Technical Director at the end of last season as he had overseen a previous summer of expensive buys, a lot of whom did not perform
The new Technical Director seems to have done a very good job this summer
Seems a good Technical Director is what we need
What !! We already have one !!, Where ?

Re: Villa
There used to be one (I think he played in goal for the "Skipton Bulldogs" Craven League team) he was one of the bouncers/doormen at the "After Dark" nightclub in the old Regal Cinema complex back in the late 80's early 90's

Harry Kane is likely to become one of the all time leading scorers in the Prem.

Re: Villa
I wonder who that was. I played for Bulldogs in the 70s. Our left back was a Roverrr. Good lad and a very good player.
In the post you replied to, obviously I meant the mid/late 90s, not 70s.
Re: Villa
I did say thought he was a keeper ...
You must have played with Baker then (was forever getting suspended if memory serves)... didn't he get sent off at Settle and put a boot through the changing room door ... cracking lad was married to a Long Preston lass for a while

Re: Villa
Anyone who thinks Villa's transfer dealings last season were rubbish needs to look again. Villa got promoted using several good loan signings so just to keep the same team theh had to spend a fair bit of money. They then had to do what every team does and try and add some more quality so they pretty much had to make 7 or 8 signings
Villa took the approach to sign a lot of young promising players and develop them. It was a risk that nearly didnt pay off but now theyve stayed up they have a team flying high in the league full of young players who will just get better and who's value will soar
The one area they flopped was a couple of striker signings but they probably hoped to have Tammy Abraham so losing him back to Chelsea was the thing that nearly cost them. Looks like they have put that right this season with Watkins who is another player who's value were probably double in a year or two
List of Villa's main signings last year
Wesley - Flop - Only 22 though so could still come good
Mings - Played all 7 games - Become England International
Luiz - Played all 7 games - Only 21 and looks to be a real prospect
Taggert - Played all 7 games - Only 23 so looks another good prospect
Konsa - Played all 7 games - Only 21 so another one who should just get better
Nakamba - come on as sub a couple of times and played in cup - 25 year old squad players who's value likely to go so ok signing
Samatta - signed in Jan and loaned out this season - Not a good signing
Trezeguet - played 6 out of 7 games - 24 year old and looks a good prospect and good value for money
El Ghazi - Played 4 games till Barkley came and played well last season - 24 year old and a 9m good value for money

Re: Villa
Their last 4 signings made recently under the new Technical Director appear to be great buys. Two are from Brentford Dean Smiths old club, so he will have pushed for these, and obviously both wanted to play for him
If I was Garlick today I would be seriously reviewing the current and long term benefits of our Technical/Analytical/Recruitment team. They must be costing us a small fortune. Maybe I am old school but get four or five scouts who know what they are dong and have them watching Championship and lower league matches. These gems are still there, but spot them and approach them before their values balloon. Villa have shown with Cash, Watkins, and Konsa that these guys can step up seamlessly into the PL. Jarrod Bowen, Phillips (Leeds),Adams (Saints),Brownhill, are just a few examples of the talent out there. But lets identify these guys early on whilst we can afford the fees and their current salaries
