Back to five subs?
Back to five subs?
Noises being made by the big six to go back to using 5 subs. It won't help us.

I thought the same, but when 5 subs were available in the post lockdown end to last season , we did great, but since its gone back to 3 weve been terrible.

Re: Back to five subs?
“It” actually had no effect whatsoever on anything. At no time did we make five substitutions and affect the game. Mind you, at a risk of getting pelters, at no time have we made two substitutions and affected the game.
I suppose the point is, the big six each have 5 game winners/changers sat on their bench. We don’t have any, so it’s obvious it wouldn’t help us in the slightest, and nor has it done. Purely coincidence.

Re: Back to five subs?
I was just about to post this myself, it's telling the big clubs are making noises about this when a lot of them are having poor starts to the season, if they were really serious about fixture congestion there would have been a simple solution, make all European games one off KO ties, slashes the amount of games at a stroke,
I do have some sympathy from the likes of Klopp and Solskjaer regarding the kick-off times in European weeks, that could have been handled better, and exercising common sense it shouldn't be that difficult to schedule the teams playing in Europe to have the late Saturday or Sunday slots, or even Mondays in certain weeks.
As for us it won't really affect our plans we rarely chop and change much anyway, and neither do Villa & Wolves, and there's some merit to keeping a settled side, and getting some continuity to your play.

Re: Back to five subs?
I can understand the arguments put forward. The reality is much different, the first substitution may be tactical, but the rest of them are for fannying about wasting time. How many substitutions do you see made with a couple of minutes left or even in injury time. If there wasn’t all the messing about and substitutes were used to give players 20-30 minutes, then I would be in favour.
It’s another time wasting exercise, three substitutes is ample.

I've no doubt they'll eventually get their way on this, citing the rest of Europe.

Re: Back to five subs?
Wasn't this why you could have 5 subs, but you could only use them over 3 windows and HT if I recall correctly, even with the 3 sub rule clubs could still use this as a time-wasting tactic, or to stop the flow of the game, I do agree it's bonkers that subs are allowed in IT, that kind of defeats the purpose because the additional time rarely gets added on, the same for the amount of time all the VAR decisions take up, why the ref can't have a clock that stops when play is halted like they do in rugby beats me, there must be at least 20-30 minutes taken out of the game when nothing is happening.MrTopTier wrote: ↑Mon Nov 09, 2020 5:15 pmI can understand the arguments put forward. Re: Back to five subs?
What I thought was strange is managers not using them to their advantage when their teams started the game crap. Were there any first half subs made? Why waste 45 minutes at least before making a sub?

I've always thought it should be 5 subs. Don't forget once we get bought out we will need to keep the likes of Ronaldo, Beckham and Ronaldhino happy

Re: Back to five subs?
I'm not 100% but I'm fairly sure Jose made some early subs last season, whether that was pre or post lockdown I'm not certain, and it may have even been a European game when he did it, but if anyone wouldn't hesitate to haul players off if they're not performing it's Jose.

Klopp making waves because of the muscle injury to TAA.

Re: Back to five subs?
IT is the big club way, insist on another vote until they get what they want - they do it on money distribution too - of course the big clubs have enough players to rotate properly should they choose too, and if they are still struggling in January they can buy the best players from their rivals to weaken them like they used too and like the Bayern, Juventus, PSG, Real and Barcelona still do

I'd have thought it more likely that they'd use extra subs to replace key players once they've hammered the likes of us.

Re: Back to five subs?
The ironic thing around this is that it is Pep and Klopp pushing it and yesterday between City v Liverpool, City made 1 sub and Liverpool made 2 and one of them was because TAA was injured, why are they not using all 3 subs if it is so bad?

Re: Back to five subs?
Is it really an issue? When the manager used to make loads of changes in International friendlies, the game basically went to crap as all the rhythm was lost.. We have far more pressing matters to worry about at the moment..

Re: Back to five subs?
I didnt hide the fact I supported this proposal first time round and I have to say I still do support it today. As well it providing a tougher skill test for managers which can only add interest to the fans there is also the fact that we need to look after our players future health
Players of the 50s, 60s and 70s were let down and we are now seeing the tragic consequences so lets not gamble with the health of todays young men and lets make this 5 subs rule happen

Re: Back to five subs?
Think we're bottom of the sub league. According to Sky we've used 1.7 per game thus far this season. Personally I've no objection to 5 subs and think it will come in as the big boys want it.

Re: Back to five subs?
I see that the EFL have just voted to have 5 subs for the games for the rest of the season.
This will probably create another move in the PL

Re: Back to five subs?
The Premier League clubs have voted it out not once, not twice but three times. Why on earth should they now bring it back to the table for a fourth time?ashtonlongsider wrote: ↑Mon Nov 09, 2020 8:30 pmThink we're bottom of the sub league. Sean struggles to use three subs
His reluctance to freshen up the team later in games is costing us points
This is his Achilles and something he needs to improve on
