Re: Last Man Standing is launched
I can confirm that Chelsea's current 2-0 lead is not adversely affecting anyone who has entered

But you can't see who anyone has chosen until you have picked your choices and it's too late to change?MACCA wrote: ↑Sat Nov 21, 2020 1:23 pmI know it's all in good fun for a cause but the more that continue to play the better.
Just to answer Quicken's question if a player who has entered multiple times has 2 still left in they may just copy the most popular pick that weekend, or if down to a 2 or 3 person shoot out use 1 account to follow the opposition, and pick another fancied team with the other. It strongly increasing their chance as the other person cannot win if their selection keeps being used by the other person with multiple entries left. As theyll either both win, or both lose on that leg but they then have another shot to win.
As CT says he will ge can put out who went out with what team as and when it happens, so will still be a talking point, but if it remains 100% fair for all no matter how many times you've entered, I think it will keep more people interested.
Suppose its trial and error, and the winner is the foodbank anyway so all is well

But when it gets to weeks 8 or 9 or 10, if it goes that long, you can see exactly who all the others have chosen in the previous weeks which may help in making your choice knowing who the others cannot go for.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Sat Nov 21, 2020 2:01 pmBut you can't see who anyone has chosen until you have picked your choices and it's too late to change?

Re: Last Man Standing is launched
It doesn’t make a difference anyway if you display or hide everything, I wouldn’t say anybody on this forum knows more about football than anybody else on this forum so no advantage could be gained, most of its guesswork & pot luck, other subjects such as eg accountancy if somebody specialises in that day in & day out as a chosen profession they’d be a case that that person is a smart cookie being more knowledgeable than anybody else pertaining to a discussion on that specified subject.PremierLeagueClass wrote: ↑Sat Nov 21, 2020 1:12 pmI’d be for publishing the picks after the deadline is past. That’s how previous competitions I’ve been in have worked. So long as picks aren’t revealed before the deadline, the tactical element is minimal. Just makes it a bit more interesting when you know who everyone is on, you can follow it throughout the weekend then.
Re: Last Man Standing is launched
Suppose that's a little better, with work or previous ones you just wrote your choice and all could see, and it didn't make for a great game towards the end as it got tactical rather than fun got serious, but the money was £500+ every timeQuickenthetempo wrote: ↑Sat Nov 21, 2020 2:01 pmBut you can't see who anyone has chosen until you have picked your choices and it's too late to change?
Whatever CT decides is fine, the main point of it is to raise money which it is doing, so the more the play or keep playing the better
Re: Last Man Standing is launched
I’m struggling to think how an advantage could be given if selections were put up. Surely it’s down to your own preference? Nobodies selections have any outcome on others. It’s personal choice wether you think team A will beat team B. Obviously better teams will more likely win so Man City would be a guarantee win in most cases, but nobody will have picked them this week, nor Spurs. Nobody will pick Burnley normally but Palace at home is probably one of the easiest on paper we’ll have apart from Fulham. But picking Burnley is a massive risk in week 1.
Looking through the fixture list and plotting your way through the weeks is more of an advantage than knowing who’s picked who. The only advantage that could be given is knowing someone has won this week and getting the pick of Fulham/Burnley out of the way early doors. But like I said, that’s too much of a risk in the first few weeks.

I reckon there might be a few nervous posters who picked Villa.
2-1 down despite playing very well going forward.

well I'm lost, I thought I could pick any team for each entry despite what others might have picked, in fact I thought if you wanted I could pick the same team week after week if I wanted, but as said the foodbank is going to be the winner and I entered never expecting to win or go far, I suppose if you understand the rules you have an advantage

They were on the page that you had to visit to sign up - and I've removed that page now to avoid any entries that were too late. Rules were pretty simple.FactualFrank wrote: ↑Sat Nov 21, 2020 5:03 pmI'm not actually playing, but still interested in who gets eliminated. Rules for Last Man Standing
Entry is £5 per person
Select one team from the Premier League from the following week of fixtures
If you team wins you go through to the following week
If you team draws or loses you are out
You cannot select the same team more than once unless the game goes beyond 20 weeks
The Last Man Standing wins the prize which will be half of the money collected
The remaining half of the money will be donated to Burnley Community Kitchen for the Foodbank

I expect quite a few of you to go out today. Villa would have been a popular pick.CrosspoolClarets wrote: ↑Sat Nov 21, 2020 5:10 pmI’m very glad to have funded somebodies use of the Community Kitchen, and now, to paraphrase Dragon’s Den, I’m out
I looked at the fixtures and instantly ruled out
Palace
Burnley
Leeds
Arsenal
Leicester
Spurs
Fulham
Man City
Brighton
Southampton
West Brom
Newcastle
People wanting to try and save gimmie teams like Liverpool, Man Utd, Chelsea for later rounds.
That only left Aston Villa, Wolves, Everton, West Ham, Sheff Utd and out of them only Aston Villa and Everton look gimmies. Expect a few more out if Fulham get a result tomorrow.

Another idea is a points kind of game.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sat Nov 21, 2020 5:48 pmI’ve no idea how long this will last to be honest but I’m sure we will be able to fit in another this season.
Eg,
Pick one team for the win each week (can only use each team once) = 3 Points
Pick one team to score each week (can only use each team once) = 1 point per goal
Pick one player to score each week (can only pick one player from each team once, eg Aguero, can no longer use any other Man City player for the rest of the commencing weeks) = 4 points per goal.
All entries can remain involved each week.
Bit of a task keeping it going but won’t mind helping if you wanted to do this.

I think the elimination part of this is what it's all about. Give points and it removes the best thing about this idea.Dyched wrote: ↑Sat Nov 21, 2020 6:43 pmAnother idea is a points kind of game.

Yea, just thought it’s a bit different and people remain in. You could be bottom and all of a sudden get a win and 2 goals and suddenly things change.FactualFrank wrote: ↑Sat Nov 21, 2020 6:45 pmI think the elimination part of this is what it's all about. Re: Last Man Standing is launched
Keep it simple. In the end it's going to be down to luck. Generally, the better, bigger teams win on a more regular basis but there's always an element of doubt.
I like the idea of a draw, as well as a defeat, putting a player out.

I reckon at least 50 have gone for Man Utd.
I have but I'm not confident. As I said earlier in the thread it was a brutal weekend of fixtures to start.

Re: Last Man Standing is launched
I’ve made a decision on whether or not to publish the chosen teams after the cut off time. I’m going to do it because if it does give an advantage then it’s an advantage I would have in any case given they are sent to me. I will also, as long as I’m still in, reveal my chosen team early to ensure I’m not gaining any advantage at all. I did opt for Man U this weekend.

Thanks Tony. It’s interesting to look at. I was seriously considering Wolves, I see only one choose them.
