I don't know how to quote..( CT Just think yourself lucky, my dad thought they were just aload of noise) In 1972 my dad said they were a bunch of has beens.
We play quite a few Stones songs when we are jamming, they're fun and quite simple to play.

Exile on Main Street (1972)is my favourite all time album by any band. Tumblin' Dice is perhaps the most famous track on this album but there are several better in my view. The album Let It Bleed is also high up on my all time faves list (Gimme Shelter, Honky Tonk Women etc.....). The one Stones track that I can never get out of my head though is Luxury off It's Only Rock n' Roll.

And then went to see them as I recall. They are amazing and to see them live really is something else be it years ago or recently.
Don't always agree with Claret Tony.....but in my opinion he is absolutely correct here. I have listened to many other bands over the years but nothing ever touches the opening chords of Gimme Shelter. Or Jumpin Jack Flash.....or Get Off of my ....etc etc

Your dad was right, by '72 they were a bunch of has beens and never got any better

I'm hoping it'll be a while off yet but, if the kids do what they're told, my final day plan requests that they play Wild Horses when they shove me in the oven! Fabulous song. I think that everyone who knows me has heard my feeble, beer-soaked rendition of this song, should raise a few smiles!

Great band. There is a legendary "Revival" band here that have been going for so long that it was illegal when they started. Ive become friendly with the singer and hope to have them play my 40th next year. They previously played at Vaclav Havel's birthday among others so i'll be in good company there.

My favourite Stones track changes almost daily, but "Anybody seen my baby" is fast becoming a favourite, what a guitar part!

And my grandma told me I hadn’t to like them because they all had long hair

When we were watching Top of the Pops, early days my dad walked in, took a long look at Charlie Watts, and said "bloody hell he's ugly!". So I said something along the lines of 'he can't help it', to which my dad responded, "well he could at least stop in". :D

Difficult choice but I'd probably choose between Time is on my side, Street Fightin' Man and Play with fire. I've got huge respect for them for their sheer longevity. I have to say my views on them are also affected by getting to know Mick's dad, Joe, who was a lecturer of mine in the early 70's. A kind, thoughtful and patient gentleman. Easy to spot anywhere, his recognisable 'gait' obviously mimicked by Mick throughout his career. When Joe died the whole Rolling Stones entourage were present at his funeral at the chapel in the grounds where he worked.

Id argue at its best live. The recorded version feels a little over produced

That was their first ever compilation album I think - I recall buying their first two albums which were called "The Rolling Stones" and "The Rolling Stones No 2".

Some of the early songs such as 'Jumping Jack Flash' and 'Satisfaction' have great little bits of unexpected instrumentation not found in the later songs.

Was that the contribution of the unfortunate chap that fell in the swimming pool?

Tes, I think you are right there.
And my dad called it a load of noisy rubbish...
but he didn't ban them from his "radiogram", he bestowed that honour on "Jimi's "are You experienced?" :D

Saw the stones at Roundhay. We were stood outside the fence with a disabled friend in a wheelchair, no tickets, and some Angels dismantled the fence and carried her in. We trotted on behind.

Can't say I'm a massive fan (though I recognise they are a top act) but I've always really liked the song Sway off the Sticky Fingers album.

Would be a poor world if we all enjoyed the same bands and kinds of music. Sticky Fingers is one of my favourite albums by the way.

Possibly my favourite, aside from all of the aforementioned classics, is Love is Strong. Great licks. I remember being a young lad and feeling the video fit the song perfectly

Dougcollins...I was at Roundhay when that happened, they took our booze off us at the gate. We saw them at Wembley same tour
