Re: Tesco Butter Beans In Water, 400g.
What is this caper . Is it not open to cheating, could i go to my larder and open said tin of beans and count them and measure the fluid, does the organiser actually open said tin of beans and count them one by one to achieve a result,do Tesco put the same amount of said beans in every can? i'm intrigued, gutted i wasnt around this weekend to play this intriguing phenomenon, could i have a go?

The garment was last won by distortiondave if I remember correctly. Whilst in his possession it suffered an irreversible calamity. Bye bye, knitted garment.Redbeard wrote: ↑Tue Nov 24, 2020 8:33 amAnd yes, Cloughy. A good question.
The traditional end-of-season prize, or Fabled Knitted Garment, was awarded to the champion Counter heading a league table at the end of each campaign. Unfortunately - though someone else might recall - I cannot remember who in fact won it when last we Counted, some three years ago. The Garment remains with him, or her, as far as I know.
If we can retrieve it, then fine, or otherwise we will need a fresh one. If, that is, we are serious about Counting for the rest of this season.

Re: Tesco Butter Beans In Water, 400g.
Steve - No two tins, though outwardly identical, contain exactly similar quantities of solid or liquid foodstuff.
Indeed I remember that around four years ago we boycotted all Del Monte products after one of their fruit salad tins proved to contain not a single half-cherry.
It would not be a good idea for anyone to officiate a Count without relevant experience gained from entering. Any significant errors of course might see the team losing heavily.
But I look forward to seeing your first estimate next time out.

Re: Tesco Butter Beans In Water, 400g.
Spades - Indeed, the Garment given three years ago was itself a replacement for that one.
Thanks for the reminder in any case, though.
Will we see a Royal estimate next week? - I would be delighted to see it.

40+ years ago we were on nights at the place I worked ... and my mate put his tin of beans on the steam pipe to warm up for his tea ... when he opened it ... it contained 1 bean and the rest just tomato sauce ... he is still known to this day as Bean in the pub all because of thisRedbeard wrote: ↑Tue Nov 24, 2020 11:10 amSteve - No two tins, though outwardly identical, contain exactly similar quantities of solid or liquid foodstuff.

Pleasing to see 47 entries for week1. More welcome of course.
Congrats to Burnleylad and Zlatan for being quick out of the blocks.
Might be a good idea to post all the rules for counters and scoring system in one post, Admiral.

Re: Tesco Butter Beans In Water, 400g.
That's too big IMHO, Huw - and shouldn't the number 1 be next to Burrnleylad rather than 'ENTRANT'?
Besides, numbers 26-47 are missing!
Apart from these minor points, it's not bad.

Re: Tesco Butter Beans In Water, 400g.
However, we usually include on the list only those entrants who actually have points to their names.
Many of those on your list won't get any points.
Thus the present table should read:
1. Burnleylad - 5pts
2. Zlatan - 3
And that's it!

Re: Tesco Butter Beans In Water, 400g.
Perhaps Winner 1 should get 6, Winner 2 gets 4 points and each entrant gets 1 point. This gives an incentive to take part each game.

Re: Tesco Butter Beans In Water, 400g.
There is a newish addition to the scoring rules in that a bonus point is awarded to an entrant who not only wins but posts the exact actual number of units or mls.
Apart from that, though, Ralph, it's a matter of not fixing what isn't broken.
There's plenty of incentive in attempting firstly to get on the list!

'Tie Break...'
Though perhaps you were merely in jest?

Thanks for the info !Redbeard wrote: ↑Mon Nov 23, 2020 10:51 pmI saw your post, Asheville, and have not ignored it, but the history of Tinned Food Counting is quite a subject and can hardly be fully outlined in a mere half-hour. If your interest is keen, then I would advise you firstly to obtain a copy of How To Influence Football Match Results By Counting Food Units In Tins, by the esteemed Counting aficionado Arthur Lemongrass and published in 1789 by Gooseberry&Greengage of Maidstone in Kent.
I hope this helps.
It is back-ordered on Amazon, with an estimated arrival date sometime in 2022.
I was only familiar the American version of Calculating Canned Food, which requires the WINNER of the contest to consume the entire contents in one sitting, without throwing up.

Sorry Redbeard, you don’t quote so I forget you reply.
It seems a very tough task that lays ahead. But I think I’ll be up to the challenge.
3pm kick off Saturday so I shall start it around 24 hours before kick off.
5 pts nearest solid content
3 pts nearest liquid content
Is this all I need to know to be handed the baton for the 2nd round of the classic that is “UP THE CLARET TIN FOOD COUNT 2020”
?

Re: Tesco Butter Beans In Water, 400g.
As it happens, Dyched, during the time we've spent without a BFC Count, the former maximum of 18 hours' estimations was extended to 24 hours! I only learned of this last night when contacting our local BTFCA rep, Carrots123, on administration business.
Just for general info, besides, the minimum period was lowered from three to only two hours.
Since this will be your debut officiation, you may allow yourself a whole extra hour prior to match kick-off for a final collation of entries and to ensure posting of the Count Result before then. Thus your Count thread can be started at 2pm tomorrow, with a closing time for estimates, naturally, of 2pm on Saturday.
Please advise as to your thoughts, and if meanwhile you require any further guidance I shall do my best to provide it.
UTC!!

Re: Tesco Butter Beans In Water, 400g.
Oh - Your thread title must, like my own, contain the following details:
1. Commodity manufacturer;
2. Commodity identification;
3. Type of residual liquid, and
4. Gross weight in grams of the full tin.
There is no need to include 'Tinned Food Count' since that will be obvious.
And do leave plenty of time for drainage when Opening your Tin!

Re: Tesco Butter Beans In Water, 400g.
One more thing: as indicated earlier in this thread and perhaps you saw, an extra point is awarded for any winner whose estimate is bang-on identical to either of your Tin's actual quantities.

During this pandemic thing, what we've all missed is "normality".
The re-introduction of the TFC has helped us see some form of normality and even some light at the end of the tunnel.
Tricoms, trilbys, flat caps and all other types of headgear off to you Admiral. Thank you.
