Password leak

Post by huw.Y.WattfromWare » Sun Nov 22, 2020 3:19 pm

Just logged on with ipad and I get a message, “this password has been leaked”. With option to change it.
Wondered if the leak was from UTC or Apple?
Has anybody else had the same?

Sounds like a scam to me.

Leave it unless it's the same password as all your others.

Look at the link in the message. Often they will use the target/correct URL as a sub domain. Example: uptheclarets.randomdomain.com

Doesn’t sound it but assume it’s not the Apple generated warning, if you’ve used a password multiple times across different sites etc.?

Change your password but independently of any email or link etc.

In some cases sites or services will tell you if your passwords are compromised. Chrome does now.

You use the a passwords on lets say DIYForum.com, site does a poor job of security, gets breached. Now there's a data cache out there of all emails and passwords for DIYForum users. Google gets a hold of it too and can also see that you are using the same password you did on DIYForum for 46 other sites.

Also - have a different password for every site.

Make a note in a notepad. Obviously, keep the notepad away from the computer.

Not sure who runs the board, but it really does need to be https.

I've a few very simple bits of advice that needs to be done to improve the board.

I won't tell anyone else what it is...but I might send them details of all those sites you have been on, unless you send me a box of Twix!

Or use LastPass, excellent password manager

As a follow up logged on today for the first time since my OP and this appeared on screen. Looks like Apple have been the leak, possibly?
